Please lah!!! For goodness sake, I once had been using retin-A for 5-6 months and no improvements was ever observed. If I were a millionaire, I would sue the manufacturer of Retin-A till he goes bankrupt.
Ice-picks scars are unwanted visitors that firmly entrenched on your skin forever. You can't do anything to it!!! You have to live a life where you admire those people in the media with flawless skin, endure criticism, sarcastic remarks and mocking from friends and family members and members of the public and above all, self-esteem and emotional depreesion.
The tantalising desire of having impeccable skin can only be manifested in one's dreams and in real life, it is inconceivable.
We have to relent our fate as being hideous; We have to imagine or protray ourselves as one individual who has flawless skin, to say the least, we have to be thick-skin!!
Here is my formulae:
A cure for acne scars = PREPOSTEROUS = BULLSHIT
I still have scars, but they have lessened, I hope the results are permanent. I'm glad i am taking action to try improve my skin texture and ill continue to do so.
I have good days and bad days like anyone.
I would never view another person as hideous, and certainly not someone with mere acne scarring, thus its unfair to view myself as such.
acne scars DOES NOT = hideous!!!! and i personally take offense to the suggestion that it could.
you may be having a bad time..and there have been other threads like this (if i recal you had started one along the same lines previously).
You have a personal viewpoint based on your own experience and that is fair enough (although i think one thread in which you express yourself along these lines is quite enough!). I suggest you think about how you go about expressing the way you feel in future, for I for one find the way you have done so here highly insulting.
If all you have tried is Retin A for scars, you really have not tried very hard. When I get an occasional pimple Retin A is helpful. In my experience, it does nothing for scars. Why not give needling, punch floats, or Fraxel a try. My experience with excision was poor, but others have had good results.
Topicals and chemical peels will not help with scarring.

No matter how hideous a person is, they can never match me. I look like a creature from hell!
If u have ice pick scars they are actually one of the easier scars to fix. U can get then cut out and generally speaking the results are very nice. Most people that I have talked to have had very little or no scars left after getting the ice picks removed. The doctor will normally charge a certain price to do most of the deeper scars so u really dont have to have a lot of dough to get them done. Afterward u could get something like fraxel done to further smooth the skin, but it is not really necessary and the excisions will look 100 times better even if that is all u get done. I have seen people that have had 40 ice pick scars excised in a couple of visits to their doctor. Excisions are the first thing that any skin surgeon will learn how to preform and they do them about like getting moles or growths cut out which generally dont leave any mark behind. Look at Enrique he had that huge mole removed from his face and it left no mark.
If u feel that bad take out a loan or use a credit card and get your face fixed. I would personally go into debt by a few thousand dollars rather than live life the way u describe. I wish u luck.
First of all, many people here are not looking for "impeccable skin", as you say. Most are just looking for some improvement but realisitic expectations are a must. There are many things one can do to improve scars so please find a good, skilled doctor. I hope you haven't lost hope, but please don't try to undermine others' efforts because the single method you used was unsuccessful.
All the best to you.

Well said. I don't consider Tommy Lee Jones and Edward James Olmos ( my only real point of reference for severe acne scarring) as hideous at all. I see them as real, viable human beings who have just as much right to walk on this planet and be happy as anyone else. You are self projecting your feelings about yourself onto others.
But I can feel your anguish and understand your feelings. But there is always cause for hope. Hope for effective future treaments and hope that your outlook will radically change as you get older and wiser.
And there are some viable treatment modalities available now. Like needling for one. Good luck. And give yourself a break. I am sure you are a wonderful person, scarring or no scarring.
James

if your scarring is SEVERE then there are options, invasive procedures....
if your scarring is minor or moderate then it is better to leave well enough alone and most ppl do not
notice minor-moderate ice pick scars anyway. if they do, then you better find some new friends.
I'm bitter too for other reasons. But why waste a whole thread inflicting my bitterness on others?
I suggest you post a pic and get some advice. yes, you'll get some bullshit telling you about rose water or tazorac or some such thing. But on a forum over the internet, that is just something we all have to deal with.
Good luck
Listen to Keith!! Excision, Lucy. It won't make your skin perfect, but wouldn't you rather have mm-length linear scars than deeply indented ice picks? Find some reputable before/after photos and compare the befores to the scars you have now. Find a good surgeon (this is a fairly basic and easy procedure) and follow the proper after-care. Usually the only thing that goes wrong with this is sutures coming out too soon.
No matter how hideous a person is, they can never match me. I look like a creature from hell!
Lucy mum, you can learn to live with it as you say..but it sounds like your not learning to live with it. It sounds like your unhappy. I totally understand you venting out your frustration, we have all had days like that, but i still stand by what i said.
Ive spent YEARS feeling inferior to ppl and a lot of that was based on my bloody scars!!!!!! Why should that be?! Ive been through a hell of a lot of therapy (regarding some other deeper personal issues also..but i always felt that my physical scars somehow revealed the stuff within me. ie "look shes flawed" sorta thing) and i know that my scars still hold me back from doing some things i want to (mainly socially) but im getting there. Im sad when i look back at photos of me in my 20's and see a decade of sadness hidden behind smiles. i dont want the next decade to be the same. I want to be TRULY happy within. We only have one lifetime!
If u can live with it, then do so happily. If u cant do so happily then maybe get therapy to help you change ur perspective and help u see yourself as others do. AND if you want to TRY improve your scarring then do so without a make or break mentality..it takes time and patience, but u really can get improvement you know..it just takes a leap of faith.
I can honestly say..seeing you or not seeing you..your scars DO NOT ..DO NOT make you a hideous person.
All the best LM....

Keith, are you refering to subscion or punch excision? Thanks, James
I agree w/keith, icepicks are one of the easist to treat. It's the wide, saucer scars like what I have that are almost impossible in many cases, especially when they are fairly deep. Unlike icepicks, excision of these types of scars often leaves a more cosmetically unpleasant resultant scar (scar too big to cut out unlike icepicks) OR there isn't enough leftover skin to join the edges for subsequent suturing (e.g. the skin would be too taut). I have determined the latter is usually the case from various derm surgeons. If post auricular punch grafting is used then u oftentimes still run into the former problem. Resurfacing techniques have their limitations in only helping certain scars that are not extremely deep or severe as we are all well aware of. This all seems to be "common" info I have gathered from various consults w/ highly qualified professionals in this area who have learned this through much trial and error in treating former patients. Many many of them refuse to do skin grafting as it is reserved for a highly exclusive case of scarring.
I have heard of many success stories w/ icepicks, eg Maria, Maya board members, among many others, but have never heard of deep saucer depressions being as amenable as icepicks or any other type of scar to acne scar revision techniques. AND the saucer-type depressed scars are the most common case. This is one of those more elusive facts you come to learn about through years of research. It isn't spelled out, you just realize it from reading various sources and speaking w/ many derms/plastic surgeons. W/ acne scar treatment nothing is spelled out and approaches to correcting them are still quite remedial. These saucer scars can become just as much a part of u as your eye color. Not trying to sound depressed, just stating facts I have gathered from extensive research and MANY MANY consultations (in various states I might add too).
Scarring will not disappear completely. I was imagining that one day my face will be like when I was 15 but after few years, I realize it's impossible and came to accept the fact. So, my next step is to find out how to fade it or make it less visible. I've been using product containing vit A plus Allantoin.
What a disgustingly stupid post this is. No there isnt a cure for acne scars. But improvement is all that is necessary. Nobody needs or has "perfect" skin. This is the kinda bullshit on this website that makes me sick. Manically depressed people get on here and puke on everybody because they themselves are hopeless. "Violin plays as I read the OP". I mean seriously people get major improvement everyday. Just because scarring is harder the treat than acne doesnt mean we all need to get together and cry a bucket of tears. As far as viweing something as hideous. That is our choice or not. There are people out there with perfect skin who view themselves as hideous. There are supermodels who think they are hideous. Its a way of thinking. Thats why people get deceived so badly. They start to believe theyre faulty thinking. I hope the OP of this thread gets some counseling before she brings others down with her into her pile of shit mind,
Well said. This is incredibly emotionally difficult and we need to support each other, not bring each other down. We're all aware of the realities of how difficult this is to treat. However improvement is possible and many people here have shown proof of that.
