Hey guys,
I'm on week 14 of Tazorac and I am starting to lose hope. At this point, I thought my skin would have improved. However, I am still getting breakouts.
I went to see a new dermatologist over last summer 2016 because I was getting cysts on my neck (rest of my face was clear). She prescribed me a retinoid, however, I now looked worse than before I started.
Background: 18, male and suffered from severe acne since aged 10. Took Accutanetwice (8th grade and 10th) and both times have worked; however, mild acne returned 8-12 months later. Since thebeginning of October of 2016, I was prescribed Tazorac 0.05% cream and dermo later increased dosage to 0.1% gel at week 6. I also was prescribeddoxycycline along with the Taz 0.05% but she took me out at week 6 as she said that it would be harmful to me (even thought she recommended me for a third round of Accutane?) I have an appointment with another dermo in March so I was wondering if I should stop using Taz now or continue using it and wait for what he says?
Regimen:
Morning:
Clean and Clear Daily Wash
Cerave moisturiser
Night:
Clean and Clear Exfoliator
Cerave moisturiser
Taz (small pea sized amount)
Quick update:
I decided to stop Tazorac because I had a feeling that the dermatologist will stop me from taking it anyway and so far, I liked the results. I got a small breakout but it was nothing compared to the breakouts when I was on Tazorac...even the minor ones during week 10-12. My skin tone is starting to become less red and my hyperpigmented spots are fading day by day.
However, this past week I had two chocolate protein shakes and it WRECKED my face. I literally have like 20 spots now compared to the 5 I had last week. It is horrible and I am still suffering from the breakout (it's like the same kind of breakout I had when I was on Taz during week 3-5). I feel awful right now because I feel like I'm back to square one but hopefully, it will clear up this week in time for my visit to the dermatologist. I don't want him to unfairly judge me by thinking this is how my skin looks when I really just screwed myself over. Ironically, I knew chocolate and protein shakes break me out but I never imagined my face would look this bad from those two things. Never Again
So my dermatologist decided that Accutane was the best bet for me and so I started my third course last week. I am starting my 2nd week and my face has slightly improved. The redness is slowly fading and I am starting to experience the side effects (dry lips and skin). Hopefully, I won't get the IB. Or if I do, it would be a small breakout as this is my third round and Taz gave me an IB anyway. Ugh...but high hopes.
