Ok, so here's the deal. The first time I went to a doc for acne I was 9 years old. I'm now 25. I have tried prescription creams, antibiotics, birth control, multiple face washes, not washing my face, supplements, special make-up, no make-up, etc all with varying degrees of success or none.
In December I was finally put on a very restrictive diet. I suck at dieting and cooking anything that's not hamburger helper; I had no idea what I was doing, so I decided to follow a paleo type diet. Aaaaand my entire face cleared up and my back was on its way. Christmas time rolled 'round, people started talking smack and I decided to play with fire (after all, one little slice of pizza or holiday cookie can't hurt, am I right?) and then totally fell off the wagon. My bad. Weeeeell, it's February now and my acne is beginning to hit me like a freight train. So I'm going back to my restrictive diet and if my face clears again and stays that way I'm going to exercise some self-discipline next time I'm being bashed for the way I eat.
I'm writing this mostly for myself as motivation since eating this way in the beginning, and even maintaining it, is tough, especially when a doughnut sale is staring you in the face (omg sprinkles). I'm hoping in the future when I'm struggling I can look back on this as motivation to keep going.
I've included a starting pic taken this morning shortly after waking up(technically my Day 2). I used my front camera on my iPhone, so my skin looks smoother than it really is as front cams don't get much detail. Which is probably a good thing. My forehead is in slightly better shape than my chin. My back is horrible, way worse than my chin. Some very mild acne on the middle of my chest.
anyone can feel free to share their stories, advice/tips, or ask any questions if they need some help. This is my second time on the horse, so I know a little bit about what I'm doing by now and am happy to help anyone else.
Day 2
ok, so as bad as my chin looks today, my skin actually looks a lot better today than yesterday. Yesterday my skin totally broke out and was very bumpy and uneven to the touch and even looking at it was pretty bad (which is why I'm back on the paleo horse). I didn't even want to look at myself, let alone anyone else see me, and work was hard since peterbilts have chrome for days on them and it's hard NOT to see your reflection as you walk by.
Breakfast Today was fried eggs (in coconut oil) with some spinach and salsa. Dinner tonight was a stew made with beef, tomato, onion, butternut squash and carrot with some seasoning.
I'm also pretty sure I drank more than a lake's worth of water. Going through that adjustment period of running to the restroom what feels like every few minutes again.
No new acne had formed anywhere on my body and face though-out the day, with the exception of waking up to two existing spots turning white, and the majority of the bumpiness from yesterday is gone. What I do have appears to have started healing, for the most part.
Today is also clay mask day, which I do to help get rid of blackheads and the sebaceous filaments. I haven't done it in a couple months, but when i stick with the routine twice a week while eating well it really works for me. My skin is super smooth to the touch now, a lot of crud, while not gone, has been brought closer to the surface, so should be obliterated in the next few attempts, and my pores look loads better.
I found that part of my routine On a pretty neat blog a while ago while researching blackhead management. Link below for anyone that wants to take this for a spin:
