Hi Everyone!

I'm new to acne.org but I just wanted to join so that I could share my journey with takingspironolactone. Just a quick background, I am a 21 yr old female who has been struggling with acne since around 14. It definitely is hormonal and it peaks right before my period and around ovulation too. It was the worst in high school (mainly all over my forehead and sides of my mouth). My cheeks were always completely cleat until about a year ago; I started getting random large cysts on my cheeks but my forehead is clear. I have tried topical treatments before and they never really do much but dry my skin out. I am currently using the acne.org BP as a spot treatment which helps the pimples go away quicker. However, it still makes my skin red and dry and also does not always work for the bigger cysts.

This is why I have started spiro. Apparently spiro helps lower testosterone levels which is a big factor in hormonal acne. I have a two year old daughter and I noticed that when I was pregnant with her, my skin was the clearest its ever been. I'm assuming because I was producing more estrogen that testosterone. So far, I have been taking spiro for almost 2 weeks. During the first week, I noticed that I had slight headaches during the day and felt really tired. But this went away after about 5 days or so. Also, I do sometimes feel a little sick to my stomach but nothing too bad. I'm hoping this goes away as well. As far as acne, I have not noticed a real difference so far. I think I might be experiencing an IB because I have slightly more acne around my jaw line which is rare. But that could have happened regardless who knows. I found it really helpful to read other people's stories about their experience with taking this drug so I'm planning on posting every week about any new side effects or progress. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had experience with spiro or is just starting the process like I am! I was prescribed 50 mg a day but I'm going to start off with 25 to see if that will work since I already have low blood pressure. Acne sucks and I'm really hoping this will help!
