Hello, I'm new here, and so I hope I'm posting this in the right place!

So, to introduce myself:

I am a 20yr old boy in Australia who has suffered from acne since about the age of 13. In the first year I broke out, I pretty much tried all over the counter stuff. So I tried things like facial washes, concealers, benzoyl peroxide (which REALLY irritated my skin). They didn't really work...

so a year after I started I went (my mother really wanted me to) to see my GP who prescribed me erythromycin (this was a few years ago, so I can't remember the dose!) and I was on it for about 5 months. It didn't really help, the acne didn't get worse, but it didn't get better.

I then went back to my GP who prescribed me septrin, I was on that for about 6-7 months, and my acne didn't get better in fact it got worse. So it was decided I would see a skin specialist, who decided that even though my acne is not severe, (only moderate) it just wasn't responding and so at the age of 15 I was prescribed roaccutane. (20mg/day for the first 6 weeks, increasing to 40mg/day thereafter). It took a while, but roaccutane did great things. My skin wasn't perfect after I finished, and I still had break outs but I wasable to control it with face washes like physohex.

Fast forward to 2014/2015, and my acne became harder to control again, and yesterday (29th jan) I went back to see my GP, who decided to refer me back to a specialist (for the acne, and a few dodgy looking moles), and in the interim I was prescribed doxycyline 50mg/day

so day 1 of doxy I guess! No side effects to note except a bit of stomach troubles, though I have other digestion issues so that's probably neither here nor there. my acne has started to dry out a bit (it's not my imagination!) and so hopefully I can avoid going on roaccutane again (I did not like the side effects)

Sorry about the long post, and maybe if I pluck up the courage to post pictures, I'll do so.

oh, and while I've had acne on my back and chest, it mostly affects my face.

It's day 4 now I believe. My stomach has settled for the most part, so that's great! (I am taking a probiotic, so hopefully it's helping!) The original acne on my face is starting to subside, however I am getting a few new spots as well, so that's annoying. I also have a reasonable sized cyst on the back of my neck, so mixed results up until now!

Oh, the reason why I say it's the fourth day is because I started on the 29th, and not the 30th!

So I went to the derm today and he said that all my moles were fine at the moment, but close monitoring is necessary. He said that it's necessary to go back on roaccutane! I'm starting on 20mg/day every 2nd day and then increasing that to once a day.

I've got the blood tests referral sheet, and am ready to go!

Wish me luck :)

Ok, so I had the bloods done, and as expected my bilirubin was elevated as I have Gilbert's syndrome. I have started taking the tablets (roaccutane) and no major sideeffects as of yet.

By the way, my dermatologist noted that my acne had spread to my scalp!! Does anyone have any experience with that, and will the roaccutane help it?
