aw bless you i think its because you have under a certain amount of posts?

Its my faults for asking too many questions all over the place! yeah i get 20% discount because my company has a deal with the other company!

I agree it is trial and error, sadly for me its all been error, everything has clogged it up and i've picked it so sad. I wonder if the IB inflames spots? from what I read in the instructions of DIFF is that it soothes and calms inflammation!

Thats kool how it does that, I think the problem we both have is that the skin keratinises too much and thus clogs up.

Yeah I will use the skinceuticals phyto corrective stuff, which i believe isn't thick or heavy, its a gel ? i think. so water as you say will or should be plentiful, unless it feels it needs it.

haha yeah was a bit of a pun wasnt it, spot on!

edit: Hey sv, just ordered those products! came to 125 but with my discount including postage 60. (That is 20% and minus the 25 refundable consultation fee)

pretty good huh

I am sad that i caused enlarged pores either side of my nose where as before it was perfect skin. I think its because i started shaving there and it irritated the skin. Then the time i used a thick moisturiser clogged it up and i squeezed all the black heads out and used an extractor.

i wish more than anything i could undo that damage, i wonder if over time using differin etc will fix that area, or perhaps i'll need dermapen or a laser? so depressed every time i look back at old photos before this. not sure if this is fixable?

Really? Ah that's frustrating

Nah, it's not your fault haha, I like trying to help, don't worry!

Differin will absolutely soothe inflammation and redness, it did for me! The spots I got came and went in a day! Max. two days, so for one day my skin would be a bit spotty but the next day after applying and leaving Differin on overnight, they were gone, apart from probably a faint pinkish mark.

Spots (with a head) would also develop throughout the next day and I could squeeze them at night and then they were gone. It's so quick, honestly. I think the majority of the redness I actually got was from extracting clogged pores: it did help massively but I just made the area more inflamed for a bit, so then I needed more Differin to help calm it down, which inevitably took longer. This was at the beginning of this week. Now that I have stopped prodding and poking at my skin so much, my face does look so much better in the mornings and evenings.

I heard that as well: pretty common actually

That Skinceuticals stuff does sound pretty good actually, may have to give it a try because I'm intrigued now: I've heard good reviews. Also the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo is good as a spot treatment and you can get it for Boots, 13.00 for 30ml.

That's such a good discount! Couldn't imagine spending more than 100 on skincare that might not work for me, bit of a risk but hey, can't go wrong for 60 I guess

Aww no, you might have stretched them over time, I don't know whether Differin helps for pores unfortunately because I have never noticed mine and therefore not had to do much research for it

I know that using an egg white face mask will temporarily reduce the appearance of pores though

Yeah its the way this website is made! keep posting lol

thats right, the redness in my face seems greatly reduced. cant wait for it to rid these clogged pores as well! crazy how they came and went in a day.

yeah well the only advice i can say about picking is.. dont. something easy to say and *impossible to do.

yeah the skinceuticals sounds good doesn't it, apparently its good for reactive skin, and helps break up pigmentation from sun damage and PIH i would imagine?

what does the La roche stuff do? is it a BHA/AHA? Its great discount! I think although i will have all these products, I am thinking of obviously following a regime but i think i will 'listen' to what my skin feels like before just blindly doing the regime day and night like a chore. i.e one night i may not need to use cleanser if not using an SPF in the day.

Yeah they probably stretched over time. the left side is notably worse than the right. they got clogged up with sunscreen on holiday and persisted to produced inflamed white heads which i squeezed.. needless to say its obviously damaged the surface. I hope Differin will boost collagen and improve it. I guess time will tell.

interestingly i have been doing a fair chunk of reading up on scars today and how to heal them, one thing i came across was copper peptides... apaz they do crazy good things for skin. have you heard of these?

The clogged pores will go Yeah, I thought it was crazy too! At least we know it's doing *something* hey

It's so easy to want to extract the clogged pores when you inspect your face in the mirror, when they've got a little indent in the top so I'm trying not to look so much in the mirror. It's working, I'll tell ya that

The La Roche-Posay contains niacinamide, a type of anti-fungal called piroctone olamine, linoleic acid and LHA. The latter two unclogs pores apparently while the niacinamide and the anti-fungal reduce/stop bacterial proliferation. Never tried it, seems good though; I've heard a ton of good reviews on that stuff. Been too stingy to pick it up though hahaa

That's what I do, I use different products/omit products if I feel like my skin doesn't need it that day.

It's probably because you had the sunscreen on and also you were sweating (if you were on holiday)? So that combo may have clogged them. The middle of the face is obviously more prone to being oily

I've done a bit of reading about retinoids and they do unclog pores, address pore size and boost collagen and it's also an antioxidant. Pretty cool stuff, maybe you'll actually have a bit of luck with this, I have my fingers crossed for you!

I have heard of copper peptides while browsing around the site actually, but never really read about them. Now I'm curious haha

yeah i have heard of Niacinamide - its Vitamin b3? I took some tablets of this for the flushing effect, its amazing lol! crazy but fun.

yes the doc told me it would help with the minor surface scars, so lets see.... its good i am now doing something about all this. wish i tried sooner.

have a look into copper peptides i am very intrigued about them been reading about them all afternoon and they look promising.

SV... just had a shower after a work out, and this hard/white head has come up like a mofo... i mean i saw a red patch on my forehead for weeks... and this differin must have released it already!!

its still under the skin, its very very close to the surface, almost begging to be popped.. i was so so so so so close to popping it but i used self control and left it. I refuse. I want the differin to kick its ass.

Yeaahh it's Vitamin B3

And wow! That's really fast actually and hahah if it was me, I would've popped it because 1) I have no self-control and 2) I would wanna make sure it was gone by the morning

But yeah, I totally understand why you would wanna leave its fate to the differin hahah :L

Well... it was day two technically for that spot because i 'spot' treated it. but still.. thats a bit crazy!

so my question, what happens if i don't squeeze it? where does the white shit go? if differin brings it out then does it need a hand or?

I have no doubt that Differin will bring it out but if it's close to bursting then you might as well just give it a hand (no pun intended). Otherwise it might just pop by itself onto your pillow whilst you're sleeping hahaa

I have never let a spot hang around that long to find out though!

ew thats nasty lol! well in that case i will be the pioneer and find out! they say never pop them, so lets see what happens when you don't. This is going to be SO hard

edit: that was rather short lived, I didnt pick it however...

i wash my face with luke warm water and used a small amount of that gentle exfoliator from johnsons and the white head just came out on its own accord. a further two white heads were also sat on the surface that came out with a warm compress.

got another white head coming close to the surface on eyebrow. yep this differin must be working

Hahaha nothing's tmi in my world

Well you can pop them if it's got an obvious head, yeah your skin must be quite receptive to the Differin then, glad to hear it's actually doing something

tmi? yeah unless my skin would do this anyway? lol. But it is very early days tbf. my skin has been dry today, splashed face in the AM then went to the gym and had a shower after.

Is it wise to put differin on every other day or once every 3 days for a week or so :/

do it chase. I regret not doing it years ago.

whats worse, breaking out from differin then being clear and not breaking out much ever again, or constantly breaking out...

thats why i jumped

SV do you always need to rinse the face with water before applying differin? or can i just put it on now and not wash? i showered after a work out and haven't sweat since nor do i wear makeup!

Definitely try it. The IB is a small price to pay for something that could possibly do wonders for your skin. If the 0.3% is too harsh, use the 0.1% instead

tmi = too much information

Yeah, if you want to slowly build tolerance for it then there is no harm in skipping days

I regret that I didn't try it years ago either, I had the exact same logic too

I would but seeing as you've already showered then it should be fine

Thanks for the advice guys, but if the ib is really bad I wouldn't want to leave my bed haha so how bad and how long was it for you? And I i was told by the derm to use it as a spot treatment to build tolerance first... doesn't really make sense but the small spot I used it on a few months ago had like four whiteheads the next morning.

Wasn't too bad for me, probably about a week tops? Maybe those whiteheads were already under your skin? I actually have no idea but it does make your skin purge quite a bit if you're unlucky

Sboo, if you still read this thread, how are you getting on?

yeah it does indeed bring all the crap out faster than it would naturally.. thats my experience after 1 day lol!

SV i washed and put the gel on... my face was pretty dry and I noticed a lot of flakyness and clogged pores which were easy to see and 'get out'..

so i decided to press some out very very gently which they flew out thankfully. so no damage caused!

then i thought.. well clearly there is a dead skin layer all over my face from this flakeyness, so i shaved.

after the shave i noticed that the area next to my nose was flakey so i used my finger to rub the dead skin off... it kept coming so i stopped and rinsed it. Now that area is red and hurts again. looks bad.. it will no doubt be less red in the morning but it seems to be a reocurring problem area for me the pores look huge. compared to the right cheek its a joke. such a piss take - god i hate my skin :( why did i do this to myself! should never ever have squeezed spots from that area. fml.

shall i just leave it or shall i put some more very thin layer of differin on this area? bearing in mind i applied differin then 5 mins after washed it off and shaved.

@thechase, tbh man no one can give you an answer.. the only way of finding out is by going for it. i'd personally go for a 0.1% strength to avoid major irritation. but it really depends on your skin. who ever prescribed it for you would have seen you in person etc

I know the feeling jack, this morning and idk why but I popped this big cist/whitehead still dont know why its gonna scab and the skins gonna die but I just try to stay positive. But yeah I suppose that's true and that's a good idea but in my crappie country haha I have to pay for all my meds out of pocket so my derm knowing this gave me a bag full of 0.3% samples. And I dont really have the money for another visit or meds :/

Day 41 | 6th week

Breakout round the edge of my forehead and near my nose on the upper lip but they're little spots.

The middle of my face looks way smoother and better even with make up on. Haven't really noticed much of a reduction in bumpiness round the edge of my face yet. Hyperpigmentation looks slightly better.

Breakout today didn't bother me at all because I am down with the flu so didn't need to leave the house for any reason!

hey guys. so since doing differin for 2 days... ive had about 6 clogged pores come out, and about 10 white heads crop up!! hahah! wow.

got the twins on my cheek today, i MUCH prefer having them actually come out though instead of staying under the skin and you know they are just going to take their sweet ass time to go.

will shower later and hope the warm water helps them along the way.. or i may give it the old hot compress trick

Just remember jack that means its working then haha. So I've decided to start tonight but I would like to get some more gentle face wash right now I'm using bp I think tht would be a little harsh what do you guys recommend? And what about moisturizer? Right now I use cerave its not supposed to clog pores and it works pretty good.
