Hey guys,
I've been struggling with hormonal acne for about a year now. And I've realised that it's taking a tremendous toll on my psychological health: I think I've actually developed body dysphoria, or at least terribly low self esteem and depression, because of this.
So in the last week, I've decided, fuck that! And I'm trying to change my attitude and try to really listen to my body instead of trying to subject it to various diets and pills and creams.
Because obviously this acne is some signal of distress that my body is trying to convey.
What I've figured out so far is that I have a hormonal imbalance with elevated testosterone and either hypothalamic amenorrhea or PCOS, as well as food allergies to wheat, eggs, peanuts, sesame seeds. I also have a mild lactose intolerance but still consume some dairy.
What I'm doing for my whole mind/body/self right now:
1.Gaining weight (have gone from 101 to 105/106 in the last month) goal: 115-120 for my 5 feet 6.5 frame. This is difficult as I am vegetarian and don't eat a lot of processed or refined foods, and at least try not to eat a lot of sugar!
2.Trying to avoid the foods that I'm allergic to and eating natural leafy green foods and fruits but not being obsessive about it. Because being obsessive and afraid of food is what made me lose so much weight in the first place, and I think it's more important that I gain overall than avoid every toxic food.
3.Using clindamycin topically as well as Natralia for a moisturizer, and Simple as a face cleanser
4.REDUCING STRESS by getting enough sleep, building up my self esteem and running, yoga and mindfulness as much as possible. Keeping a positive attitude!
5.Quitting smoking: I've heard it elevates androgen production. Plus it just can't be good for my overall health and well being
6.Taking Loryna (ideally temporarily) to (theoretically) reduce androgen production and initiate a monthly cycle while I continue to gain weight over the next few months.
7.NOT letting my skin isolate me or destroy my friendships with myself or with others.
If anyone else is interested in what happens or is on a similar trajectory, let me know! I would love to keep each other posted on updates and new tips and tricks.
