Glad you are getting good results from azelaic acid. I've been using Finacea for a couple of years and really love it. Its so much better for my skin than Differin was!
thankyou for your comment, i'm glad other people know about this treatment, I wish I had known sooner. My doctor had never heard of it before I brought it up. I don't think Ill bother with differin
Reading through your log has given me extra hope in my azelaic acid working, Ive only been on it for a couple of weeks but sometimes I think its working an then others I'l break out (like now) I do see my skin condition getting gradually clearer though!
Btw your skin looks amazing
.
Im glad it brings you hope. I wish I had a log to read through when I first started using finacea cause the progress is so gradual. I remember being so angry with my acne I would cry in the shower and be so angry whenever I had to choose an outfit in the summer. I only knew about azelaic acid cause I researched acne treatments obsessively. My doctor was ready to send me straight to a derm before I tried it.
I wish my skin was 100% clear, its not. Saying that my ONLY spots at present are around my jawline and they are genuinely barely noticable when I catch myself in the mirror... now when I catch a glimpse of myself I smile but I don't obsessively look anymore which is awesome.
good luck with azelaic acid. Keep photos though, once a fortnight or once a menstral month cause the progress is gradual and it helps to keep track that way rather than obsess over it daily. obviously you will obsess, I did, but making an acne photo date with yourself makes it easier to know its the treatment is effective. Doing it the same menstral day is a really good idea though if your female cause our breakouts fluctuate so much throughout the month.
I can genuinely say finacea has changed my life
I think patience is the key, I tried azelaic acid a while ago but had an outbreak which probably had more to do with me changing cleansers than it did with the cream, and just gave up after about 4days. I wish I hadnt as I wouldve been around the 2month mark by now. Oh well.
Seeing how much of an improvement youve had, your back looks like youve never had acne there in your life! And your face has cleared up tremendously. Even though I only get the odd tiny spot on my back/neck/chest if my face looked like yours in a couple of months i'll feel so much better .
I'm definitely going to take a photo every couple of weeks too, great idea to see how its coming along.

Fantastic, love the Sulphur bath pic! Looks an amazing place and it must have been so good to not have to worry about your skin.
If you find anything that works 100% for the dratted jawline, let us know!!
well the plan is now to use finacea once a day all over in the morning as usual and start religiously using SA every day on my jawline aswell. When I run out of my foundation I will switch to the antiblemish foundation by clinique as that has SA in it.
if this doesnt work i am thinking i'll just use finacea twice a day instead of once on my jawline. we shall see.
I have started using finacea twice a day to clear my jawline now. Mostly I have some red small spots near my mouth and two hard neck spots which are stubborn. All other skin is essentially clear. we shall see if this makes my skin totally clear
plus Once it is clear I will switch the evening application to once every two days as I will be alternating with the hyperpigmentation cream for my face and shoulders.
have been on and off with finacea on certain parts of my body as my boyfriends been out of town a bit recently housesitting. I have kept it up with the bits I can reach and have been applying some in the evenigns to be jawline with some early sucess.
Randomly have a BOIL! on my nose though. Although I had been operating under the assumption that it was acne I have realised today that it is a boil. Its like boils I have had before so now I can apply savlon and just wait for it to go away...... I wish it was a spot, then it would have a head and I could defeat it but nope... no head
Grrrrrr
other than that I feel amazing about my skin still and will continue witht he twice a day thing.
will post pics on my next day 8 xx
Twice a day has worked on my jawline. My skin is..... dare I say it.....
Clear
amazing....
so I have perfected my regimen.
finacea applied in the morning all over acne prone areas and once more in the evening around my jawline. Shower once a day and make sure all makeup comes off before bed.
Yoga once a week
I am so grateful to everyone on here who encouraged my when I really needed it. No one else could understand. I wish I could give you all something so I'll just say thankyou and wish you all similar sucess. I think the best thing I can do is keep checking in on the boards to keep contributing occasionally.
xxxx
I'll upload a photo on day 8 of my skin on my jawline
Hi. Your results are amazing! You did a great job being consistent.
I wash my face with a sulphur soap from time to time, when I have breakouts and it is really good! If I have red skin (which is often), irritated and with pimples, I use the sulphur soap and after one use I can see big changes. It is drying though so I wouldn't use it every day (I used it every day for a while and it was just too drying for me) so now I use it from time to time.
In my country we have Finacea but it is used under the name of ''Skinoren''.
I have a combination skin, hundreds of blackheads on my nose and chin, dry cheeks and in the summer my face gets oily as hell and I also have more pimples then .
I have some cysts and pimples before my period and more cysts and pimples when I am stressed.
Both times I went to UK, 2 years ago and last year, I worked in Birmingham and I don't know if it was the air, the water or the food combined with stress but I had looots of red, big, nasty, painful cysts on my jawline and chin and I've never had something like that! So when I went back to my country everybody was shocked that my skin was so bad!
My doctor gave me Skinoren and I used it for 1 week or so and the results were amazing! One a day or during the night.
I continued to use it until my cysts went away. Then I used it just when needed, on my cysts or pimples or just to take of the redness.
Now I want to start using it again, for the whole face and regulary because my blackheads are ''killing'' my face and sometimes I have some cysts on my jawline and pimples around my nose. I also have loots of scars, red and violet.
The first time I applied Skinoren, I wanted to take my face off , it was extremly itchy but then I got used to it. Even now I get the small itchines but it is ok.
I'm glad that Finacea worked for you!
Thankyou, as one doctor who say my skin said "its a dream!"
It really is.
I went into town yesterday and went shopping. For once I could buy whatever clothes I wanted without worrying about showing off my diseased looking skin.
I had acne everywhere (face, neck, chest, arms, back.. even under my breasts) and I had very swollen and painful comodones and cysts all over my jawline and back
I can touch my face without fear, without pain
I can go in the sun
I feel beautiful for the first time in my whole adult life
I would reccomend finacea to anyone with acne. Its certainly the best in terms of potential side effects in my opinion.
good luck and thankyou for the comment about my consistency.. it was tough especially in the beginining when there was very little improvement.
I am at my 2 weeks mark with Finace for my acne / skin ccolored bumps that appear over night and camp on forever. The bumps are not more reddish colored then skin tone so more obvious.. about 4 of them formed head (dont ask me how i managed not to pop them,, yes i am a popper).. but they are healling now.
I guess i was expecting a faster recovery..or rather an miracle. But after reading crystal_willow log on her persistent schedule on acne treatment has given me hope and I will keep using Finacea until atleast 12 weeks mark which my derm has prescribed.
So big thanks for inspiring us newbies and Congratulations on your amazing success story!
Acne hater,
G.
Are you are there isn't an equivalent product in Holland (Azelaic acid?) also I think you can get it in Germany if thats any help...
Thanks for the message, I am so glad my log has helped people. I remember how disheartening the early days of treatment are. I was talking about it today, I used to get so angry going to all the effort to apply or take a treatment when I still had the visable acne and new outbreaks but I am so glad I stuck with it.
I now apply twice a day and my skin is clear now, I get the occasional bump but thats usually when I skip a day to be honest. My skin is clear. I hope you see it through for the months it takes to know if its having an effect.
Good luck!! I genuienly wish you the success I have had.. I am greatful for it every day.
I am uploading a new back pic to keep people updated... Its good to know something can get you clear and KEEP YOU CLEAR!
OMG! I'm happy for you. You were able to conquer your struggles with acne. Hope I can do the same for me. I've been battling acne ever since college. Though most of my acne are gone, there are still some and especially the scars. I hate it. What's even worse whatever topicals I use, I still have mild redness, though some of them claim they reduce facial redness. I aim to have a clear and smooth face like yours. I'll make a thorough research about azelaic acid. Once again, I'm happy for you. PS. Enjoy your acne-free sexlife.

I have to admit I still have a little redness around my neck because the skin around our necks are more sensitive and I have not been using azelaic acid there twice a day for as long as I have on the rest of my body.. my neck skin seems to be getting used to the second application now though and the mild redness is calming down. I have scars now and I see them like tattoos, They remind me of the journey I have been through and make me greatful for my recovery. I am lucky they arent on my face though.. I think I'd feel differently if they were

OMG! How are you planning to treat your scars? I also have scars but not that severe as you think it might be. Oh BTW, I did a little research about Azelaic acid (I even insisted my mom to buy me the cream!), it seems that some side effects include redness, itchiness and (excessive?) peeling of the skin? And that it is strictly suggested to only use it on acne-prone areas but not necessarily the whole face? How true. Did you experience those during your treatment?

I documented my experience quite well in my log but it is long...
I did experience redness, it takes a long time for your skin to get used to the treatment so you need to be patient but persistant with it.
I always know my acne medication is working when my dead skin starts to come off on my towels. Your skin adjusts to it in the end and any skin shedding is not normally noticable after your skin is totally used to your routine... again this takes months.
I do still experience some tingling/itchyness just after the application but its only a little and doesnt last long and its just my neck where I feel it.
I use the treatment on the areas where I get acne only, but I spread it a little around that area aswell just to make sure I am covered.
basically commit to at least 6 months treatment. Start with once a day then once your skin has gotten used to that, if you feel the need, increase to twice a day. Always wash the skin before applying finacea.
As for my scars, as I said I am actually a little attached to them as tattoo type reminders of my experience... but I am using clinique skin tone even-ing product to deal with areas of hyperpigmentation. I could do more about my scars and I may look into it once I have been clearer for longer.
Hope that helps xx

Thanks so much for the info. As of now, I have only applied azelaic acid into the acne-prone areas of my skin. I'm afraid to spread it to my whole face. It's bad enough I have facial redness (not rosacea!) and have another due to azelaic acid. So far I have no itchiness (Thank God!), though the areas I've applied the medication are starting to redden and becoming quite obvious. Naturally, my scars aren't that visible at least within a foot away. But when you take a closer look, you can definitely see them. And it literally bugs me! Because of acne, I became vain and self-conscious about my appearance. I really like to commit 6 months treatment of azelaic acid, since I'm seeing improving results. My acne scars to shrink and my skin starts to peel at a mild and tolerable level. Thanks again for the info.
