Hi everyone,

I'm curious whether any of you have tried to control your rosacea/ redness through diet modifications. Most of my redness goes away when I follow an anti-inflammatory low histamine diet, and I thought I'd share this link with you.

Check out this article on the rosacea- histamine- mast cell connection, you might find it helpful. http://thelowhistaminechef.com/the-rosacea-histamine-mast-cell-connection/

Hi. I saw a dietician once and she had me follow a diet low in "salicylates" and "amines" - chemicals in food which i think might b the same as the histamines you're talking about??? I get funny reactions like headaches and racing heart if i have certain foods like tea/coffee or sundried tomatoes.

Unfortunately i didnt find that the diet helped my skin at all. I have acne on my chin and around mouth but also redness (maybe rosacea??) on the rest of my face especially nose and cheeks. Actually i think the diet made my acne slightly worse because i was so limited in vege i ate more grains then i usually would and they aggravate my acne.

The best diet for me seems to be low sugar/grains and lots of omega 3 for anti inflammatory. I'm still mindful though of avoiding consuming too many of the foods that cause reactions. Like i know i can get away with having 1 cup of tea/coffee occasionally to be social but no way will i have a second one or my heart would be racing. I'm not looking at my face when it happens so maybe i do become more flushed? I wear make up so no one can tell! I can't drink alcohol either but i notice when my mum drinks wine her face gets quite red and flushed (obviously i have my mum to thank for those great genes :) ). She can't have aspirin because she had an allergic reaction to it (aspirin is very high in salicylates). I think its possible if you eat drink/something that you have a sensitivity too it would cause blood vessels to dilate and therefore your face would become redder ???

Yes, salicylates raise histamine.
