I've been lucky guys, no flushing here but absolutely agonising joint pain all over with no relief from usual supplements and therapies.

Interested in above suggested treatment for joint pain, especially if it has extinguised yours Lamarr. There is still hope then...........I hope!

Hey Sheefa where is your pain the worst?

All over, and I mean ALL OVER. It's in every single joint.

It helps but hasn't completely relieved it (i have ocular rosacea with blepheritis). I still use rosex gel on my eyelides twice a day and use lacri lube.

Sheefa,

I'm sorry to hear that. It only seems to have affected my back. I wish I could tell you something that I have done that has helped it, but unfortunately I haven't had much success either. I'll let you know if I do come across something that helps. I would be grateful if you would do the same for me.

Lamarr,

I'm really excited for you that mepacrine has been so effective. You deserve it. I was just curious if you were having any side effects from the mepacrine?

Still struggling here. Been on Avloclor Chloroquine Phosphate (anti-miliarial) for 4 days now and going to give it a shot for 3 weeks. I am scared about the side effects though, eye problems, flushing, psoriasis. My acne is also on the way back and I have some funny blotchy red marks on my forehead.

God, taking another set of meds to counteract the effects on tane. I just want to be healthy and acne free like all the other bloody people out there! Two things in life I'm sure we all want and know others don't always appreciate how easy they have it.

Bro the only real risk from the anti milarials is the risk of eye problems, if it works for you then all you need do is go for a checkup every 6 months to make sure nothing is going on. If it is you just stop. You won;t suddenly go blind!! The psoriasis is only in people who already have it... and the flushing, well it is used for rosacea so the flushing won't be an issue, especially if you haven't had any witht he first few doses.

Hey guys.

I can't believe soooo many people are experiencing this.

I have been off Accutane for 5 years now and am still dealing with constant facial flushing. Only on my cheeks and on the tip of my chin. It has caused definite problems with my social life. It's embarassing to go out when it's warm or sunny. Warm rooms are a no no. No foods really effect it but alcohol definitely does.

Before Accutane I had no flushing and I regret going on Tane every day. I should have let my acne go away on it's own but i was too impatient. Now i'm paying for it.

I stayed on birth control for a couple years afterwards until i decided to stop and the next day my acne was back full force...having to go on Accutane AGAIN because now i had acne and flushing. I finished that up about 6 months ago. The flushing hasn't gotten worse due to the second round but I'm not going off BC again that's for sure. I also still experience lower back pain when i lay or sit for too long in one position.

Also...I get frequent Staph infections...has this happened to anyone else?

Good luck everyone

I'm using retinoids (topical of course) since year 2002.First it was Isotrexin, then Differin then for a long time Zorac (personal,it was my favourite one - for red marks its the best, but it is soo irritating;/)Anyways,about year ago i develop this flushing problem,so i started using a concentrate with vitamin K 3 %.It works really really good.My face for the most of the day is pale now.But unfortunetaly i can't buy it anywhere now so i think I'm gonna try serum with vitamin C 15%.Should be good for my problems too ..anyways I'm not sure is there any topical cream with vitamin K in Your country, but if there is ,You could give it a try;)

Well, month 8 here and the flushing is still there. The dryness in my lips and skin has improved and I am seeing a little bit of minor black heads on my nose - perhaps this is a good sign of things to come?

Thinking of giving Dapsone another try as it is used for rosacea/flushing similar to the anti milarials I have learned.

I took SOLODYN for 1 month. Two weeks into my treatment, I started to experience flushing. The sensation starts in my lower arms, rising to my neck, face, and ears. The episodes increased in frequency to 10-15 per day, not including 3-5 at night. After enduring this for two weeks, I contacted my derm., realizing that this could be an unreported side effect of SOLODYN. Both my derm. and pharmacist told me that this was not a known side effect of SOLODYN. My derm. told me to stop taking the SOLODYN, and I complied.

I called the manufacturer of SOLODYN (Medicis) and asked if flushing was a reported side effect. I was told "yes." When I asked where it was listed, I was told it came under "erythema multiforme." Erythema multiforme refers to a skin disorder with macules/papules. Any competent healthcare provider would not connect erythema multiforme with flushing.

I have now been off SOLODYN for almost 2 weeks, and my flushing continues. I am very concerned about this drug. I am most concerned that doctors and pharmacists may not be aware of this severe flushing side effect. What's more, a red flag has been raised concerning the manufacturer of this drug. I would like to see results of the Phase IV studies on SOLODYN.

Clearly, something is not right.

Lamarr - u need to clear out that inbox buddy, can't send u any messages...

...I was curious, I thought i remembed you mentioning that you had some broken blood vessels. I am having a huge problem with that. My whole face is practically pink/red...I don't really flush, but mainly only when I am lifting heavy...

& What is this drug that you speak of?

Just cleared out my inbox... I did have quite a few broken vessels. ND yag on a small spot size (two sessions) cleared those without flaring the flushing.

I had a few ipl sessions which really made things alot worse. Mepacrine is a potent anti inflammatory which Tony Chu uses for rosacea and lupus. I basically have lupus with pretty severe rosacea (well it was). I am now free of flushing, havent flushed in a week or two now.

I just have the odd large blue vessle under my eyes which i hate but i can deal with those, i have some diffuse redness still but that is slowly going aswell. I als use LED therapy which will heal the vessels over time.

Im on my last month of Accutane. I am thrilled (!!!!!!!!!) that it has worked so well, I havent had a break out in 3 months! But now I have the redness flushing/blushing problem. I can actually see little blood vessels and my pores are HUGE! I did a little research about Rosacea today and its really scary! I also had no idea it had any effect on your eyes! I pray everyday it will subside after Im completely off Accutane.

Why do we have to trade one for the other? Why cant we just have beautiful skin!!!

Stellaranne,

Yeah it is unfortunate that we traded one problem for another. How has your flushing been since your post? Since you are just stopping accutane you have a good chance of having the flushing stop within the next 6 months, but there is a chance it may remain longer. The one bright side that I have experienced from all of my issues is that it has made me a stronger person. I have gained a new outlook on life and when I am able to overcome the flushing and the other problems accutane left me with I feel like I will be a better person because of it. Since nobody responded to your message I figured I would...

Lamarr,

Have you still been flush free man?

Soul,

How have you been?

Has anyone experienced V beam after accutane treatment to treat the post flushing/redness? Also, what would you guys think of doing a body toxin cleanse such as http://www.squidoo.com%2Fflushing-body-of-toxins to rid our bodies completely of the accutane, possibly eliminating post redness/flushing?

Wow it's kinda nice to see people are experiencing the flushing too. It's really pissing me off that my derm is not helping me out with it- he's supposed to be top in the country too!

My flushes are sporadic- heated rooms are the trigger and drinking shit loads of water tames it a bit. Although this nearly made me mess up my first final this week: Really needed the loo but I knew I was flaring up (as the examiner guy was staring at me with a startled & concerned 'I was radiating some kinda freak heat and about to explode' look. So as I was too embarrased to get up midway from the back of the room (as everyone would stare at me when they looked up) I held it in. Suffice to say I've never been so scared of peeing my pants since I was about 3.

Aaanyways, does anyone else notice their flushings are triggered by bright light? Whenever a lecture hall is bright my face is beetrootastic. Again cue lots of staring and "damn what's up with your face' comments.

I'm about to go up to 40mg roaccutane and this 6weeks should be the last of my course. Only noticed the flushings when I hit 20mg (I started on 10mg for about 3 months as I've got mild stubborn acne). Do you think I should not go up to 40mg as it will exaccerbate the flushings?? And please tell me there's a possibility my flushings will stop when I come off!? Acne or flushes..which is the lesser of two evils?!

Cheers

Hey guys, I've been on Accutane for 6 months now, I have two pills left and I am finished, wow it did it's job. I to have this Facial Flush problem now too, and it sucks. It goes right across my nose VERY RED, and on the side of my cheeks, almost looks like I have been sunburnt and forgot to take my sunglasses off. What I have been noticed though, when I take a nap for about 1 hour, it always goes away. I naturally have a "pink" face but it's more noticeable on accutane. I play sports, and I always have a bright red face after, theres no way around it, drinking usally triggers it to when I'm in a hot bar. I really hope this is a just a side effect to being on the drug and it will stop after I'm done my pills. Post Accutane I was always worried about people staring at me because I had acne, now it's do I have a red face? It's annoying. Sorry to hear that everyone has the same problems. I'm really concerned about this.

Kleg,

If it was me I would stop immediately, but that is just my personal opinion. I think especially since you are upping the dose that it would be a mistake not to stop taking it. The higher doses are where the flushing really comes from and I don't think I would have had any problems if I wouldn't have went up to 40. I find the flushing to be much worse than the acne was as I too had only moderate acne. I fully understand what you are talking about with the final thing. Even normal school days I can end up getting flushed in class if the room is even moderately hot and its just so embarrassing and frustrating. I have been amazed that I have been able to keep my grades up through this ordeal as when I flush I can't think about anything else. I dread taking tests now as stress is definitely the worst for bringing out my flushing full force. A hot room will only get my cheeks really red which sucks, but is nothing compared to the blotchy look my neck has when I am stressed during tests. Water helps somewhat, I find that it is most helpful if you freeze a couple of bottles for like thirty minutes to an hour before you head off to school. That way you get the most bang for your buck and you won't have to drink as much to be effective. There is a good chance the flushing will go away within a year off accutane, but there are no guarantees. I wish I could give you more advice, but since I still have flushing I don't have a good solution for it quite yet. Be careful what you put on your face and I would advise against going on another antibiotic after accutane to maintain your skin such as minocycline as it exacerbated my flushing problem. Let me know if you have any questions for me and I will try my best to answer as I know when I first started flushing it was really confusing...

Kubina,

I'm sorry to hear you have developed the facial flushing problem as well. Like I said above there is a good chance that it will go away within a year or so, but i'm over a year and a half removed and I still deal with flushing on a daily basis. I don't want to scare you, but I want to be honest. I believe that it is common to have the redness dissipate after sleeping. I am not sure exactly why that is, but when I first wake up in the morning is definitely when my skin looks its best and I have no redness. It makes sense I guess when you consider that when you are asleep you are calm, but yeah I don't know the scientific reason. Be careful what you put on your face and I would advise against going on another antibiotic after accutane to maintain your skin such as minocycline as it exacerbated my flushing problem. Let me know if you have any questions for me and I will try my best to answer as I know when I first started flushing it was really confusing...

Thanks for your reply, I'm still hoping this is just a side effect of accutane, and it will go away. because facial flushing is a side effect of accutane. I can't wait a year : ( I can only hope this will go away asap! Does anyone know being on accutane trigger Rosacea.

If you never had flushed prior to starting accutane then yes its related to accutane. As I said earlier accutane stays in your skin a long time so there is no guarantee it will go away shortly after stopping the drug, but i'm hoping you get lucky. I believe that the flushing is not rosacea per say, but is similar. Rosacea can be helped by taking accutane and minocycline, but in my experience the accutane gave me flushing and the minocycline was making it worse. Most dermatologists would be quick to call it rosacea, but this accutane flushing is unfortunately a new phenomenon so dermatologists don't know what to make of it. I wish I could be more helpful, but I only know of my own experiences and several other people from this board.

im currently in my second month of accutane and within the last week my face has been burning red and flushing sporadically throughout the day. Its soo f'in annoying! I just changed my dose from 10mg to 20mg/day so im hoping switching back down to my original 10mg will help me out. Accutane has annoying side effects..... who woulda thought grrrrrrrr.
