There is so much controversy behind dimethicone. Does it cause acne?

Ive read it harbors bacteria and oil which causes acne

but also that it doesn't affect acne at all and can work as a shield

We don't know what causes acne at all, so we can't say for sure that dimethicone does. This ingredient is a type of silicone, and silicones are used in many commercial moisturizers that don't make acne worse. So I don't think you should avoid it. Also it's not on the list of comedogenic ingredients.

These are the ingredients in the moistruizer i want to try:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Sorbitan Stearate, Methyl Gluceth-20, Polysorbate 60, Dimethicone, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Aminomethyl Propanol, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Sorbate

This is Skinmedica Ultra Sheer, correct?? Tocopherol and Cetearyl Alcohol are both 2 of 5 for acne and irritation. They are very common ingredients. Also, Sorbitan Stearate and Carbomer can be irritants to some (only rates a 1)...everyone is different. So is possible these won't be your personal offenders. It always a roll of the dice, but considering that all the iffy ingredients her rate pretty low on the scale, I'd say it's worth a try. If you react, keep track and see if you notice a pattern with products containing the same ingredients.
