Hi all!

I am on the second round of Accutane. And one of the horrible side effects for me are chapped lips.VERY chapped.

I had hard time dealing with them the first time, so on my second round I started to search for options.

On my first round I tried all lip balms(Dr Dan's too)...and they would relieve the pain..but lips still peel...(grr).

So this is what I found that SUPER surprised me.

Lip plumper...you heard me!!! The first one is Sally Hansen Lip lip inflation. To my luck, apparently they discontinued them! So I went on Amazon and bought 2 more. They not only stay long on, BUT also heal lips. I only have to apply them every 40 minutes vs the usual every 5 minutes.

Then I didn't stop there... I thought to myself..what Lip Inflation is never gonna be back..I need other options.

I got Rosebud Salve...I heard people saying that it is like Vaseline...and hearing that I just didnt purchase it before. Vaseline DOES NOT HELP!!! DOES NOT. Every night I put it on, and woke up with dry, peeling lips. So...I read ingredients on Rosebud Salve..and it has oils in it..not just petrolium... I bought it and...I love it. I use it at night..and I wake up with smooth lips Cool, huh?

So...did not stop there. I also bought LipFusion lipgloss plumper with 2 different products in one..that one was 14$.( I think when u get them separately they are like 50 each...wow, so that one is like a sample I guess)...When I put the night lip plumper on..I also wake up with smooth and healed lips.

So not only my dry lips are under control..I actually see my lips being fuller. hehe

Hope it helps.

I had severely chapped lips a couple of times to the point that my lips would crack open in the corners. When that happened, cortisone extra strength cream was the best followed by aquaphor. Using aquaphor all the time since then has helped my dry lips tremendously and prevented them from getting severely chapped again.

My dermatologist recommended Aquaphor when I started my first round. It didn't help me. It would ease the pain but didn't actually heal and cure the dryness. SO totally cool that it helped you. Its kinda weird though. We all have same lips.lol But somehow some things for some and for others don't. SO weird.

Aquaphor is what I used for my lips when I was on accutane btw all my acne went away with accutane but it all came back after a year and it came back worse :( I hope yours stays away forever.

Accutane seems to dehydrate you do remove excess oils from your skin, because of this I noticed I became quite thirsty, around the time that my lips started to shrivel up into a horribly painful mess. I've used so many different chap sticks and ointment and all though it sounds peculiar one of the best things I did for my lips was drink a LOT of water, I still needed a chap stick on me all the time but my lips were no longer cracked, swollen and red. Especially before bed I would have a big jug and try to go to sleep before I needed to pee so then I could at least hold off till morning. Through the day I would constantly have a 2L bottle on me, probably down 2-5 bottles in a school day, it is a hell of a lot of water, but without it I would have been in a hell of a lot of pain, so I just got used to a new routine involving a lot of water. :) hope this helped

I've been using Burt's Bees Nourishing lip balm and it seems to do the trick. Pretty cheap, too.
