AHHHHH

I think I just figured out the cause of my sudden outbreak; my foundation.

I used to suffer from mild acne until I started using epiduo which got my 98% clear.

Since I was so clear, I thought I could stop using epiduo...wrong.

I went back to the dermatologist and was prescribed atralin (a retin-a).

A few days after I started using the atralin I went out and bought new foundation! Great idea....

I switched from bare minerals matte (without bismuth) to make up forever mat valvet.

For weeks and weeks I thought the atralin was making me break out so I quit after a month and a half.

I continued to use the make up forever mat velvet, though. And kept breaking out!!!!

Thru process of elimination I realized it was the new foundation that was creating these painful mini cysts and whiteheads all over my cheeks, chin, and lip area.

A few days ago I decided to stop using all makeup for a week to let my skin breathe and see what happens.

It has been 3 days and so far no new pimples, just some hyper pigmentation from 2 months worth of breakouts and a old zits.

I will keep everyone posted and see if the makeup is the culprit.

Input from fellow makeup lovers and haters would be appreciated!

I hear ya! After a really bad breakout after the holidays in 2013, I was using makeup like it was going out of style. I hated going without makeup because then everyone would see what was underneath. So I kept on putting on my mask (which didn't help much in making my face look any better) and trying different products that my doctor was prescribing (all of which didn't work). I decided to take matters into my own hands and experiment to try and clear my skin myself. I have seen a LOT of improvement, but my skin still isn't where I'd like it to be. Right before this Christmas break, however, I decided to stop wearing makeup completely, for the same reason as you - to let my skin breathe. I've been seeing a lot of improvement just by doing that! I'm also not spending nearly as much time in the bathroom as I used to, considering I don't have to spend an hour a day putting on my makeup. Sure I get a little self-conscious going outside and seeing friends and my boyfriend without makeup on, but they don't notice. We're our own biggest critics and once we realize that, it's easier to take that step and quit wearing makeup. It's the best thing I think I've done for my skin, and hopefully you see improvement too!
