I'm looking for recommendations of Kabuki-style makeup brushes for the application of mineral makeup. So, please, do tell which brush(es) you prefer and why. :)

Thank you,

PI

I like using the brushes made by 'too faced'. They are so soft and apply makeup really good, also they're cute so that's a plus lol. They're kind of expensive but most good brushes. http://www.toofaced.com/c-117-brushes.aspx For acne prone skin though I know there are brands that make anti-bacterial brushes so that might be a better option! Sephora or ulta would carry those.

Ironically, I've read complaints about certain Kabuki brushes--not the Too Faced brand--for being too soft for the application of mineral makeup. I think the main gripe is that without stiffer bristles to apply the minerals onto the skin, the powder tends to get brushed/blown away by softer ones. Is that not an issue with Too Faced's brushes?

I didn't know that anti-bacterial brushes exist. I'll definitely look into them. Thank you!

i use the mac kabuki brush with my mineral powder. It is SO soft, the softest brush i've ever felt! Even though it is soft it is veryyy dense and picks up and holds the powder well and it actually applies it really well.

I Googled "Mac Kabuki brush" and found the 182 Buffer Brush. Is that the one? On Mac's site, it costs $52--more than I'm willing to pay for a single brush. :(

I use Everyday Minerals kabuki brush. My favorite is the Long Handled Kabuki Brush. It's $12.99. It's easy to wash too!

That's not a horrible price. I can swallow the idea of a $13 brush more so than I can that of a $50 brush. Heh...

How well does the Everyday Minerals brush hold up? Does it tend to lose many bristles over time, or has one brush lasted you for a long time? Then again, I don't know if there's a certain length of time that a brush should be kept and then replaced.

I got mine in 2011 and they are still good. I own total 3 brushes, and I switch them around(I also have 2 unopened brand new brush but I don't have plan to replace my old one yet!). I use kabuki brush to apply mineral cheek powder and use it everyday. I usually wash my brushes every 1-3 months...maybe I should wash more frequently lol but I haven't really break out using this brushes. Hope it helps!

My Everyday Mineral brushes are still going strong 4 years after I bought them.

I wash them in baby shampoo and water. I also store them right side up so the bristles don't get squashed.

Too faced brushes feel really soft, and are also free of animal hair (but avoid if you are sensitive to synthetic hair). However, the more you wash the brush, the harsher it becomes but it's still the best kabuki brush I tried.

Four years? Wow. That's really good--especially for a brush that costs $13.00. And thank you for the advice on how to clean and store mineral makeup brushes. When I finally decide to try mineral makeup, I'll know what brush to start with and how to care for it. smile.png
