Does Bp Cause Foundation To Oxidise?

My foundation keeps oxidising recently and I am wondering if it is because I have started using benzoyl peroxide. I found this interesting: http://www.madsci.or...90120.Bc.r.html - If bp application results in formation of free-radical intermediates which oxidise bacterial molecules it certainly sounds plausible that it could oxidise foundation too...

Do you find it oxidises your foundation? Maybe it depends on the foundation? My last one only oxidised occasionally but it was too yellow for me. I'm gutted because I spent hours and hours trying to find a foundation that was a good match for my skin tone. I tried samples of nearly everything! I finally found something that looked ok on my fair/neutral-cool skin and now I'm back on bp (I thought maybe I'd grown out of my acne but no...) and now, it's not a totally unwearable shade of orange but it looks wrong and it really bothers me...

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to stop it? I've already tried waiting ages between applying bp and putting on makeup; and I always use a primer. I limit my intake of 'acidic' foods too though I'm fairly sure that tip is a myth... Is there anything else I can do? Is it even worth trying to find another foundation? (Though I'm not sure I can stand to go through that again anyway!)

I think it mostly depends on the foundation. When I was younger, Cover girl always oxidized on me and turned horribly orange. I never made the connection that it might be the bp, but I've been a bp user for decades so it may have had something to do with it. However, I've never had problems with Clinique or Almay having that problem. The current pressed powder I use over Almay foundation is a Cover Girl one and it doesn't oxidize either.

I think some women/girls have this issue too regardless of whether or not they use bp. Some stuff just turns orange on some people.

I use benzoyl peroxide and wear makeup. I'm not sure if your foundation is liquid, powder, etc. But i use a powder and concealer and i have no problem with the color. If you aren't using powder i'd seriously recommend it, it's best for acne prone skin and matches skin way easier. The coverage can be really good especially if you have a concealer underneath. I think it's worth going out and buying another foundation, but this time just a different kind. Good luck (:

Thanks! It is encouraging to know that bp doesn't do it to everything... I found alot of things oxidised on me anyway. I thought it was because I had oily skin but it's not so oily now...

Brandy, I tried alot of Clinique foundations in the summer and they all seemed to oxidise on me (or maybe they were just the wrong colour) except for the palest shade, that didn't oxidise but it was too pale for me (although I was trialling it in the summer and am lighter now so I might give it another try but I think it'll still be too pale..) It was the oil free 'stay matte' line that I was trying, what do you use? I don't think you can get Almay in the UK anymore, I haven't seen it around for years unfortunately, that was the first foundation I ever used. I'm using a Dior liquid foundation now because I was advised (and verified by trying everything) that Clinique and Dior were the only brands that would have a decent colour for cool skin tones. It took me so long to find a match and I was totally obsessed until I found it so I'm reluctant to go down that road again :( I think I will at least take another look at the Clinique samples I have though...

Lekry that's interesting that you have found powder foundation works so well for you. I hadn't thought about switching to powder. Why is it better for acne prone skin? What powder do you use?

Thanks again!

Yes it's better for acne prone skin because it isn't too heavy and comes off easier when you wash your face. The ingredients are also less irritating, same with the application of it. There's also better chance of not developing acne cosmetica from foundation. Although it can be a little drying when you apply, and since i'm on the regimen flakiness is becoming a problem. I remember flaking using a liquid too, but it's been so long when i used liquid i can't tell which one is worse. :b And i use neutrogena mineral sheers powder. And you're welcome (:

I discovered my foundation wasn't oxidising at all! I just hadn't realised that now it is winter my skin has gotten alot lighter... Now I'm using the lightest shade it looks great! So I feel pretty stupid... But also relieved because bp seems to be the only thing that works for my acne and after my recent breakout I can hardly bear to be seen without makeup on because my post inflammatory pigmentation is so bad. I don't think I will change from the Dior because I seriously tried nearly everything available and it really is the only thing I have found that is the right colour for me/isn't too yellow. Plus it has a beautiful finish and covers without looking too heavy and apparently the ingredients are good for the skin :)
