I am a 37 year old male and have suffered from cystic acne for 20 years since I was 17. I have followed various treatments including bp, antibiotics, numerous different face washes, oil cleansing. I now currently use a soap free wash with organic jojoba oil as a moisturiser.
i wouldn't describe my acne as severe and has definitely got better as I have got older but I always have 2 or 3 active cysts and can't seem to shake them off.
for some reason the acne is always on my jawline or my scalp so I'm guessing hair has something to do with it!!
if anyone out there has any suggestions for cleansers/ moisturisers to anything they think will help it would be kindly appreciated
Hi,
I kind of share the same acne history and figured I'd share my story with you and maybe give you a few ideas. I have been suffering from blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and the occasional cyst mainly on my back for the past 15 years. My back was entirely covered in zits and red marks from zits. Just over a month ago I started reading about the caveman regimen. After having read a lot of threads I though what the hell, maybe I have prolonged my acne that started out as a hormonal thing to something caused by myself putting to much stuff and aggravating my skin. This was the best thing I have ever done and I now feel a bit sad about not doing this years ago. I am not saying that a full blown caveman regimen is the way to go but it really tells you a lot about your skin and gives you a completely different way of finding what works for you, especially for adult acne I would assume, as the hormonal reasons behind acne is more likely to have disappeared.
My current regimen:
Supplements
Probiotics
Multi vitamin pill
Omega 3 pill
Diet
Low carb
Low dairy
Face
Wash with water every other day, trying not to pick and touch at all
Back
Rinse with water when taking daily shower, trying to take fast showers and not too hot
Shampoo
All natural aloe vera shampoo for sensitive skin
Results
No breakouts
Flaky, rough skin on nose
Itchiness
Have also started trying some aloe vera gel on my lower back to see if it can help with red marks.
I recommend sodium sulfacetamide and sulfur wash, that's if you are not allergic to sulfur. It's helped my skin the past couple of years. I wash my face twice a day with that and retin-a micro .08% at night.
Back in February, a new derm put me on a new skincare regimen. Doxy and glytone mild gel wash. Nope! My skin was not happy. So I was put BACK on my original regimen which consists of the sulfur wash, retin-a and bactrim (only if needed).
My skin is getting back to normal with a couple of small breakouts on my chin but I'm assuming my skin is just trying to re-adjust.
