Sudden Return Of Severe Acne At Age 25

I first started getting acne at the age of 11. By the time I was 13, and right until the I took treatment at age 16, my face used to be absolutely covered in acne, with enormous, pus-filled acne. People used to bluntly tell me how disgusting the acne made me look.

I consulted a dermatologist at 16 and my acne went down for a couple of years, only to return at age 19, and again, the acne was very severe. I went to my dermatologist once more aged 20, and was put on isotretinoin and an antibiotic (cannot remember the name). I was also told to use Clindamycin gel in the morning and retin A gel at night. The acne went down again, and remained mild for many years. I have awful scars all over my face (especially on my cheeks and temple area) from all those years though.

I turned 25 last year, and my goodness, the acne came back with a vengeance around December last year.

My lifestyle has not changed much though I have been under quite a bit of stress due to various reasons. I have always had irregular and heavy periods. I have also always had dandruff.

Overall, nothing significant has changed, so could the acne be hormonal?

I used to be underweight but have put on a bit of weight over the past year (6/7 kgs), but I don't know if weight gain could affect acne severity.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to be put on the medication again if I can avoid it.

Thank you in advance!

This might sound really hard to believe and a little crazy. It was the first time I heard about it. Trust me I have the kind of acne skin that safe medication can't cure. I basically came to point where I accepted this was out of my control. Then I learned that you can live on a diet that is basically fruit and vegetables diet (fresh fruit and vegetables), i adopted it and basically my acne cleared and a lottt of other health issues. I basically live off of a three-ingredient smoothie organic kale, non organic bananas and oranje juice not from concentrate from trader joes, its cheap. Of course if you're going to do fruit and vegetable diet you for the long term you have to do your due diligence in your research on how to do it safe.. If you do decide to do what I'd recoommend transitioning slowly to a predominantly fresh fruit and vegetable diet. I personally tried to do it in one night, nothing but fruits and vegetables. But its hard and takes a lot of will power because you're basically not eating foods you've been eating you're whole life. Basically change your diet. All fruits and vegetables is key. 50 percent fruit and 50 percent vegetable is good rule to keep it simple. Throw out the fats. If you basically just eat fresh fruits and lots of leafy greens you'll get clear. Throw out dressings. Just plain fruits and vegetables as your ingredients. For me smoothies are an easy way to get my greens in. Like the one i mentioned above. Google Dan Mcdonald the vegan. He's kind of wacky, but that's where I learned about fruit and vegetable diet. I would'nt follow his advise to the T, but he can explain it a lot better than i can in helping you get started. FYI lots ofpeople that promote it get dogmatic and swear its the only way to eat. don't get sucked into all that. Just make sure you're getting you're information from credible trusted sources. But the simple truth is a fruit and vegetable diet can cure acne. It's the only thing that I know will keep me clear if i discipline myself to follow through with it. Speaking from personal experience.
