I'm A Believer! How I'm Curing My Acne Caused By Yeast

In a previous post I mentioned how I cured my acne and eczema after eliminating my food allergies. Although this is true, and I did get rid of eczema that gave me red raccoon-like rings around my eyes, and acne that also strangely liked to hang out around my eyes, I still had acne. I also had a stubborn patch on the right side of my face that would flare up during my menstrual cycles.

Well, I think taking the yeast and acne thesis somewhat seriously may finally eliminate my acne entirely.

I have had a recurring yeast infection "in my pants," but, because I doubted the internet hype about candida until recently, I did not make the connection to the stubborn acne on my face.

Every once in a while there would be days when I was so busy that I would not be able to eat until the evening, and on those days my skin would be glowing and clearer. I think these unintended mini-fasts might have starved my yeast for a bit and not inflamed my face with my food allergies (milk/dairy and eggs), perhaps influenced by the yeast.

Anyways, I read a post by Emi, who documented in detail and with photos her experience with clearing her face using anti-fungals, suspecting that she had contracted a yeast infection from her dog. Her results were amazing, and the pattern of acne on he face resembled my acne when it was at its worst as a teenager and in my early 20s. I was further convinced that my problem may be yeast because I already knew I had a yeast infection, and my face got worse when the yeast down below got worse. I was also under many rounds of antibiotics for ear infections as a child, and later as an ill-fated acne patient of today's medicine.

I went out to my local pharmacy and bought an OTC ointment with 1% clotrimazole (called Lotrimin here in the U.S.). I also purchased a bar of soap with tea tree oil from the brand Thursday's Plantation. After using the soap, the acne on my face was already pushing out gunk. Now, waking up after an overnight application of the Lotrimin, my acne I would say is 50% better. My overall complexion is clearer, too.

Also, I have been following overall a low-carb paleo diet, although I cheat and eat a slice of rye bread once a day for energy, and now take pau d'arco supplements to fight the internal yeast. I would still like to emphasize though that diet (reducing carb intake, eliminating problematic foods, in my case dairy and eggs) cleared well over 50% of my acne. We'll see how my effort to eliminate my internal problems with yeast goes! The topical treatments already seem promising.

Anyways, if your acne responds to anti-fungals, you should suspect that you have acne caused by some type of fungus. Whether that be yeast or something else, although yeast seems to be a common culprit for various reasons, i.e. antibiotic abuse in popular medicine, high carb diets, poor nutrition, etc.

* I was on birth control and spironolactone for a year, which I have been off of since late August. This change may be responsible for my recent yeast flare-ups.

I also discontinued my use of Retin A Micro.

Not to discount your experience, but "Now, waking up after an overnight application of the Lotrimin, my acne I would say is 50% better". 50% of your zits went away in one night?

46yo male here and I have recently come to a similar conclusion. Been using BP for years, and while it has helped it has never been completely effective no matter how much I used. Recently started using Nizoral too and significantly cleared up.

Unfortunately I started using erythromycin and BP at about the same time, so I can't say conclusively which is working, but my gut tells me I have a combination of acne and some kind of fungal acne / folliculitus so both medicines are helping.

Clearer skin so far!

Why yes, actually. The right side of my face had a particularly stubborn patch of zits which started to relapse after just one application of Lotrimin.

Besides the

Great! I've been meaning to buy Nizoral too, because of its potential to clear up fungus and acne, but haven't been able to find it in my local pharmacies.

Update:

My skin is completely clear, except for hyperpigmentation. I am also starting to take Solaray Yeast Cleanse supplements.

I am rotating Nizoral, Selsun Blue, and Head & Shoulders AND added probiotic juices and yogurt to my diet. All seem to be helping.
