I am 31 and have suffered on and off with spots on my chin since I was 17 they are in no way severe but always come before my period. I have just taken my first pill of my second pack of dianette and have been using dalacin t twice a day and benzoyl peroxide once at night. I haven't had a major breakout except a couple on my seven day break but my skin is generally dry and dull and still spotty! I get extremely depressed about my skin, it's affecting my whole life. I can't eat and feel sick and have lost a stone in the last couple of months. I generally look ill. I think the meds are contributing to this but desperate for clear skin. It's affecting my relationship with my husband and even my son. I took dianette for years when I was younger and can only assume this is what kept me clear. I need some help and advice firstly on dianette and what to expect and if it works and second on how to manage dry skin and dullness whilst still getting spots. Please help am so miserable that my dr is sending me to see a counsellor!
I haven't taken dianette, but I took diane when I was 19 and it did clear my skin temporarily, but when I went off it my acne became more severe than before starting it. Dianette is supposed to be a bit milder than diane, but it still messes up your hormones once you go off it because your body becomes dependent on synthetic hormones to achieve balance. The best thing I did for my health was going off all acne related drugs (including birth control - which should be used for birth control anyway, not acne and not past 35) and using holistic methods to clear my skin. It's not an easy road, but for me my overall health is more important than just clearing up my acne. Maybe look into some supplements to improve dull skin, like evening primrose (start with a low dose in case you get a reaction), or try topical MSM cream. The holistic forum has plenty of suggestions for your concerns.
Thanks I feel like I pushed for the treatment so I should use it and see what happens but am struggling with the side effects like dryness fr the topicals and sickness which I feel is affecting my whole health it's such a pain. Will try the evening primrose and maybe if I can eat and drink more and keep it healthy my whole health may improve. Was your acne hormonal? Would love to know more about what heled you. I come from a very dr driven family as practicaLly all of them take long term medication so know very little about holistic health

Unfortunately, dryness is one of the side effects. Have you used any drugstore moisturizers? Something cheap and simple like seba med or olay beauty fluid might help you out. Also drinking lots of water helps.
Yes, my acne is mainly hormonal and I have PCOS. My hormones get out of whack whenever I am going through a stressful period, and then it takes a lot of effort to balance them without using prescription medication. For the past 5 years, I had been keeping it under control and almost clear by using holistic methods and nutritional supplements, along with a balanced diet and low stress, but unfortunately my acne returned after a lot of ongoing stress and I was back to square one. I think it's slowly subsiding again, but this time it was harder to control. I had to step away from western medicine because it actually made my acne worse - I tried everything short of accutane, and now I am paying for it because my body became used to relying on synthetic hormones
In my signature and log, I keep a record of the treatments I am trying to manage my acne.
In the past, I got completely clear by using a good multivitamin (solgar Earth Source vitamin), and also vitex with evening primrose. However, this time around the hormonal imbalance was different and more severe, so those methods didn't work. Acupuncture, regular exercise, and a balanced diet, along with natural progesterone cream, zinc, and b-complex stress formula (for my anemia) are helping me at the moment.
