Thank you! I just don't know what to do because despite it being better I'm still breaking out. It just doesn't seem to stop. I'm still getting cysts etc although it's not to the scale it was but they are still scarring me.

I feel like I want to get rid of my acne for good because I've got all this horrible scarring.

i'm going to reply to the inbox message you sent me but i wanted to tell you - did you know that cysts on the chin is 100% hormonal? It is a red flag for hormonal imbalance. All the doctors, chinese/western have told me this. They told me that BCP pills are the best option for women. It is not true that acne comes back bad after YAZ or Diane, of course people get problems after coming off them because you throw your body off balance again which makes everything erratic., including the skin. Sometimes you can completely outgrow the ability to develop acne if you have been on the pill for a while, this is what i have been told. But, it must be taken consistently.

Have you tried Dianette ? two of my cousins took it, one with severe acne and her skin is clear now. I took Diane-35 which i think is slightly stronger but i had nasty effects which prompted me to stop but honestly it cured all my acne and cysts i was like, over the moon.

your skin is honestly not that bad AT ALL TRUST ME. . I did contact a doctor in london about the N-light, the one that developed the N-light. Not sure if its the same doctor you see, but he told me it reduces the inflamation.

it is up to you to take accutane, but 2 days in with all that dryness, maybe it means it kicked in. How strong is your dose?

Btw i have seen a new derm yesterday for laser hair removal and she told me to say on the pill but be patient and wait 4-6 months and if there is no improvement accutane is the absolute last resort and the side effects come with the big doses and she can low dose me on 10mg but i have to be 100% ready for it with no reluctance.

she said her 'severe' cases are around 40mg and she does not like high dosing.

Yes I agree with you there that acne is hormonal. I get it in other places too but not as persistant as my chin. I have tried dianette in the past but to no avail sadly.

Going by what my genetics seems to have in store, my acne isn't going to go away easily. Like my auntie who's had it on/off all her life. I worry that it's looking like a similar scenario for me. I'm not too keen on that idea. The only downside with the pill is that it's likely i'd have to stay on it indefinately.

My auntie did the Pill but said the acne just kept on coming back. So i'd assume it would be the same for me (although nothing is certain of course).

Yes, I saw Proffessor Chu. Is that the one you mean? He's a great Dermatologist and very kind. are you from the UK then too? The N-lite was ok but it doesn't really produce long lasting effects on my acne and at 150 a go it's not cheap. My acne was still forming even after the treatment.

My dose was quite low - only 25mg. I thought it was so weird that it could take effect so suddenly.

Sounds like you have a really good dermatologist. I too think I'll need to be ready for it, it's just hard to physically and mentally prepare yourself for a drug like that.

I am not keen on birth control myself as i have had bad experiences on it and the fact that at some point, you'll probably have to discontinue it. Accutane is a rough journey so brace yourself. If it gets worse, don't panic, in most cases, it does eventually get better. I am in my 6th and last month and i still have acne but not as bad (an i believe this is NOT a typical reaction so don't fret). You should know though that if hormones play a large part in your acne, it may very well come back after accutane so do look into spiro or other hormonal means. Also, i recommend you maintenance therapy after Accutane(this is my 3rd round so i am living proof that accutane is sometimes no guarantee).

Thank you Sasch83, the advice is very much appreciated. I'll ask my Derm about Sprio again when I see him in May. So far everyone has told me that Roaccutane would be the best option and one Derm even told me that Spiro was a nasty drug and he'd taken people off of it who were taking it for acne. It's really hard to get it prescribed here in the UK but I'll endeavour to ask.

My brother took accutane which cured him so maybe they're thinking that for me too.

Weirdly right now I have no acne, it's oddly just slowed down completely over the last month or so. I think the tretnoin cream is helping (I think it's very similar to Retin-a). I wish I could get rid of my acne so I could fix all the aftermath it's left on my skin as I'll have to have expensive scar treatments to get it back in check.

It really hurts me when I see how it's devastated my face so fast. People tell me to keep postive (or keep my chin up - which kinda makes me laugh in an ironic way!)

Thank you so much for your kind words. Sometime i admit i don't feel strong, especially when the tears, hiding and such come. I don't have extensive scarring but my face is filled with enlarged pores that i believe are permanent. I do have some marks though. I was thinking about Spiro myself but i know it can mess with hormones and the idea of not having a period frankly scares the shit out of me (i didn't get my period once for 6 months while on BC so.....) In any event, i had ordered The Regimen Complete Kit and will use that if my acne worsens after accutane (which like clockwork it probably will). This time around, accutane is not doing what i was hoping it would do.

I know, it's like you have no choice but to be strong and you wonder why me? why can't I just have normal functioning skin like everyone else. I dream of the days when acne was something I'd never even heard of before or felt on my skin. When I was a child I had skin like porcelian but now it's every kind of horrible mess you could imagine!

On the plus side at least you haven't got so much in the way of scarring and you never know maybe it won't come back after this course. It's also brilliant that your body tolerates accutane so well isn't it?

I imagine you've been through a lot that you didn't choose to go through, just like me, but you certainly seem like a fighter who won't give in to this.

I know what you mean, the idea of messing with my hormones completely puts me off too. I'd rather find another way. I'd like to think I could have a family one day and you can't do that on the Pill or Spiro.

I hope if I choose to go down the path of accutane it will give me remission. It worked for my brother but who knows.
