Hope this is in the right subforum...anyway, I have had chronic folliculitis for several years, and finally was prescribed doxycycline for 3 months to get rid of it.

I've been taking it for almost 4 weeks now, and I have broken out EXTREMELY bad on my chest, neck, and face. I am a 30 year old adult and haven't had any issues with acne at all. But once I started the antibiotic for my folliculitis, I have broken out so bad, and I have never had acne like this before.

I was googling a bit and found that it's normal to break out for a bit, but i'm almost 4 weeks in and I don't see any signs of this getting better. Is it time to call my doctor and find out if something is wrong, or is it still normal to be breaking out for this long? Does my diet matter? I go to the gym and have a high protein diet with a lot of carbs/milk/cheese/chicken, and am not sure if that has something to do with it either.

Anyway, when will this breakout go away? I'm getting annoyed with looking like this.

I took doxycycline last year for acne and broke out pretty badly, the worst of which was about 4 weeks in. I cleared up quite a but in the second month. I am also 30 years old. However, if you've never had problems with acne before it seems strange that it would trigger such a problem. If you don't have a follow-up appointment with your dermatologist soon I would call, if nothing else just to make him/her aware. For some people diet plays a role in their acne although I've never been able to find a correlation personally. If you haven't made any big changes recently and have never had problems before, I'd start by addressing the medication.

Try some probiotics. Dannon activia is good, while foods has lots of probiotic drinks, pills and even chocolate probiotic squares
