I am 25, female and have struggled with massive amounts of facial hair since puberty hit. I also have acne, the only form of hair removal I have been able to "somewhat tolerate" is shaving. I am a Esthetician and stumped at what to do.
I have been using mini eyebrow razors wet or dry, shaving against hair or with and have not really noticed a difference but I get cystic bumps (jaw) and micro comedones on my cheeks/sideburns. I def believe it is from hair removal. I'd love to know if anyone else has a similiar issue and if they found a solution. I even went to see if it could be lasered, but was told my hairs were not "course enough" to even be effective! Extremely dissappointed, as my facial hair is jet black, thick, looong. I was also told it would get worse when I'm older (which I do know, as my mom has a extremely hairy face)..my facial hair has gotten increasingly worse each year. I am extremely frustrated, I have always taken excellent care of my skin. Facial waxing, threading gives me SEVERE folliculitis, my hair is curly and I am african american/caucasian an issue for people of color.
Every little thing makes me hyper pigment and my skin is oily, CA resident (so no humidity) and my hormones are out of WHACK!
Skincare currently used:
Antibiotic: Minocycline (previously used tetracyline, doxy (im allergic), sulfa, Birth control ortho tri, yaz for a # of years but got severe hyperpigmentation which is a major problem)
Cleanser: Clarisonic 2x day (i soak in rubbing alcohol to sanitize), Andalou Natural citrus kombucha cleansing gel (daily-the rest are cleasers i've collected over time) neostrata antibacterical facial wash, natural glycolic wash (can't remember name).
Treatment: Retin A, Murad acne gel
Exfo: retin a, murad acne gel, dermalogica microfoliant, andalou natural lemon scrub (no grit, gentle believe me), or Origins Modern Friction.
Masks: Andaou acne mask, equate sulfur mask, homemade turmeric mask( turm, water, andalou mask mixture)
Moisture: AM Control conrrective aroma matte spf 30 (just started using 3 days ago) & PM Murad oil free acne lotion (I hate it and the dimethicone is no good but I can't find a moisturizer that is better!)
As for other acne: neck, body, hairline oh my goodness I'm at a loss after all these years!
I have congestion all over my forehead (tiny bumps everywhere, they won't come out!!) and into my hairline, sideburns, earlobe area, back of neckline, ect ect. I'm so frustrated! I do not use hair products with cones to avoid congestion and simply use aloe vera gel. I noticed when my curly hair is a much shorter pixie, I have less issues, but I am choosing to grow my hair out. I am extremely careful to wash my hair first in the shower then cleanse face, body, neck last and fully rinse off all residue to not clog pores. For cysts on hair line, tea tree SOMETIMES works, but its not super reliable, plus I'm super senstiive to it. My skin is extremely sensitive. Folks, I need help.
Have you ever been to a doc and been evaluated for PCOS? Hormones way out of wack and excessive facial hair for females can be symptoms of it. Aside from that you should concentrate on looking at solutions to balance your hormones. From what you have described, topical treatments will never get you where you want to be. An imbalance of hormones is the root cause of acne. I have been essentially cured of severe acne by taking Vitamin D (a prohormone). Take a look in the Vitamin boards under "Vitamin D has cured me of oily skin and acne".

Please do try to get your hormones checked. I have PCOS and the places where you get your acne and the hair issue seems a lot of what I used to get. It's a difficult thing to deal with, but there is always hope.
Good luck! 🙂
