Hi so basically a couple days ago I went to the doctors office and was turned down to be prescribed accutane, this was heartbreaking to me as I have had acne since I was 5 years old (I'm now 15) and I have tried pretty much anything from high end products to just soap, an abundance of topical and oral medications, I've gotten opinions from dermatologist and doctors and so far nothing has worked, the reason he turned me down is because My acne is fairly moderateand in his opinion my skin needs to be cystic to go on accutane, even though I have heard it can be used totreat my skin if I had tried different oral medications and it is still persistent which it is, this doctor however wasn't my regular doctor as she was away that day and my regular doctor said we could discuss the possibility of using accutane if I try out benzyne first and it still persist which it has. But I just wanted to gert your guy's opinion on it before I getmy hopes up before asking my regular doctor and to also here your guy's opinions and perhaps recommendations, sorry if this was kind of hard to follow.

Post a photo of your skin - I'm on day 11 of accutane and my acne is definitely not severe or cystic right now. I was on antibiotics for too long + my derm finally advised me to go on Accutane. Honestly, you should try and get on it if possible. It sounds like your acne is persistent and stubborn, and accutane 100% clears virtually everyone. If they try and put you back on antibiotics (assuming you've already tried them) I would really advise against them. They've ruined my immune system- I get a bad cold every 3 weeks.

They're terrible for your body and immune system + DO NOT cure acne. They only treat it temporarily and (in my opinion) postpone the inevitable use of accutane. It's not this terrible scary drug that everyone makes it out to be. The vast majority of people just get dry lips and skin and some joint pain. Don't read about the horror stories online. Good luck! I say push for accutaneand kill the acne NOW. Topicals are overhyped on here - if you really have stubborn acne, a retinol probably won't help you.

By the sounds of things, my skin was quite similar to yours. I began my treatment in May 2015 and finished in September! I had also tried countless antibiotics and creams and obviously nothing worked, so I went to a dermatologist about it. He put me on it straight away! It is quite a harsh drug, and the side effects aren't particularly fun, but it did help me, especially with my confidence which was at an all time low with my acne! Unfortunately though, two months after finishing the course, my acne has come back and it looks like I may need to go on another course :( good luck with everything! :)
