Ok this is my first post. My 13 year old daughter has tried everything the dermatologist has prescribed for two years. We started with a dermatologist that prescribed epiduo. It was the latest in acne treatment and was going to take care of the beginnings of acne she had at the end of 5th grade. Her acne at the time were lots of small bumps underneath the skin on her forehead. The derm said to use epiduo everyday and that would take care of the acne. It was horrible. Her skin was red and unbelievably dry. It took forever to get an appt with our derm and her skin at this point was so dry we put smashed bananas on it to take the dryness off. UGH. The dr told us to only use the medicine every other day. After a year of this crap we went to a new Derm Dr and tried Acanya and an antiobiotic. Her skin was not as dry but now the breakouts were all over her face, After two years of no improvement we have decided to try Accutane/Isotretinoin. Now we are 5 days into Zenatane. No side affects but no real changes in skin. I hope to keep you updated.
good luck to your daughter, and to YOU- what a wonderful parent to be on here to help her with the journey
I've read many posts about 'my parents won't help, don't understand'....she's lucky to have you
buckle up for a bumpy ride and unconditional love- you have the %s on your side, it does work miracles for most, but there are side effects....try to keep the dose where it is, even if it takes longer
again, good luck to you both- and many posters here have been through it, so reach out with questions, day or night!
Day 19 and the breakouts seem to be about the same. Earlier in the week, I thought her face was more broken out, but it seems to have settled down. Her lips are drying and she has some back pain. Her face has not started drying out yet. Thank you for your replies. They all made me feel better, it is a little scary to take on such a tough medicine. But without anything working, it feels like the right path.
Month 5- we are on the last month of treatment. It is amazing to see the difference in her skin. She still gets a pimple occasionally, but since last month her skin is beautiful. She has gone from oily skin with many tiny bumps all over her face to rosy cheeks and clear skin. She has been on 60 mg since the second month. No horrible side effects, just really dry lips. So glad we did this treatment. Wish we would have done it earlier.
