Cool, Thanks guys. My Derm told me I would be on a 5 month course as my acne is not that bad. it kind of mild while occasionally becoming moderate to severe. I'm almost done the first month. 4 to go, can't wait. However, school just ended for me so I do wan't to enjoy the summer and have it not go by too fast.

Day 27 update!

Hey everyone, it's starting to get real hot in jersey (85 today!). which means I'm looking to get sunscreen for my face, any suggestions peeps?

So basically in the past 2 weeks I would wake up and would have several white heads, usually small, while the previous white heads would heal and dry up rather fast. Now when I wake up I have maybe 1 or 2 very small white heads at the most, still forming in the same places (around the mouth and lower chin area) but overall I can tell my skin is making some noticeable progress which I'm very happy about.

I've been taking Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Fish oil, and zinc everyday and so far I haven't noticed much joint or muscle pain while working out. which i typically do about 3 times a week and I don't want to have to stop since I'm currently in the best shape of my life. my next Derm appt is coming up on thursday, I'm pretty excited for it. I'm anxious to find out if he is going to up my dose. I've decided I really do not want to go any higher than 40mg because I don't think my acne is that bad and I don't want to experience any extreme side effects. My lips continue to be chapped, I try not to apply moisturizer too often simply because I actually like when my face is really dried out, it makes me feel like the acne is drying out with it. So usually what i'll do is only apply some if I'm going to be leaving the house so that I don't look like some peely lizard freak. But I purposely don't put any on before bed, just aquafor on my lips so they aren't cracked when I wake up.

I spoke with a couple friends of mine who have been on accutane and their acne was much worse than mine. They told me that by the end of month 2 they were almost completely clear. So i'm expecting to be clear sooner than that since my acne isn't severe, just kinda moderate i'd say.

How is everyone else doing? feel free to get a discussion going on this thread! I've noticed my black heads are huge now and I've noticed that I have black heads like everywhere! can't wait for clear skin!

Day 30 update!

Hi all, So i had my dermatologist appointment today. He upped my dose from 20mg to 40mg. He originally wanted me to switch from claravis to Absorica stating because absorica gets absorbed 100% even without food so it in in theory more effective. However, my pharmacy/insurance was giving issues that would have taken a while to resolve so he ultimately decided to keep me on claravis since That is what was available and so that I would continue treatment right on schedule.

either way, I don't mind too much, I always remember to take my meds with food and plus as far as I'm concerned Isotretinoin is Isotretinoin whether its called x or y.

So as far as my skin goes my Derm didn't seem all that pleased, he said I have "skid marks" from picking and popping and told me to stop doing that especially since my dose is now 40mg instead of 20. He gave me free samples of a prescription topical that helps speed up the healing process of the actives that I do have so that I don't pick them. (i know i really shouldn't)

I was wondering, I still have the 20mg claravis I'm just supposed to take 2 of them a day now. Should I take them at the same time or one morning one night, or does it not matter?

any input would be greatly appreciated!

When my drem gave me my prescription(30mg3xday) she told me to set a time, and if I missed a dose and it was too close to my next one to just skip it and work it in sometime the next day, but to try and evenly space the doses.

I hear some people take them all at once and that just sounds crazy to me. It wouldn't be two times a day, it would be two pills once a day, there's a reason your dr tells you to take a certain amount at a certain time, I'd take them seperate and consult your derm otherwise. :)

day 32!

so I started getting compliments at work on my skin and how it has noticeable improvement. I still continue to break out, but never too badly. I'm healing faster than my breakouts have been occurring which is nice. I'm forcing myself not to scratch or pop anything. My derm gave me some type of topical that will allegedly make my actives heal faster.

well 16 weeks to go I believe. 40mg days here we go. Lips are a bit extra dry i noticed. and one of my ears was dry and peeling lol.

day 35

Update: I hate to say it, but I see/feel a potential breakout coming. crossing my fingers that it's not a large one, only time will tell... I'm guessing it's because my derm upped my dose from 20 to 40mg. I'm trying to stay positive and remember that this is all part of the process. For every pimple that comes out, that's one less pimple I have hiding under my skin.

side effects still the same mostly. very chapped lips (never to the point of bleeding or hurting) applying chapstick every 2 hours. skin no longer oily. I have been noticing that I feel more fatigued lately, throughout the day even. Granted, I was only laying on the couch watching tv, but still though I go to the gym a few days a week which keeps my energy level consistently high.

Ah well whatever, doesn't really bother me either way.

until next time.

I can't remember whats it's called it's not labeled since he just gave me a bunch of sample sizes.

might as well do a quick update!

so I am having a bit of a breakout, but if this makes sense I can almost tell that it will go away fast and Im hoping this is the last one. I have a few white heads that I want to pop badly but I'm disciplining myself and not popping as per my dermatologists request.

I'll be back in a few days for a future update. I turn 21 this saturday! woo, ill be skipping my doses that day and enjoying myself if you know what I mean...

Wasn't sure if it was the new acuzone or something like that. My derm gave me some samples before starting accutane and i thought it was working. Samples just never last long enough!

Day 44!

so its been up and down recently. I've continued to break out. I healed front my first initial breakout but I've been in the process of a second for about a week now. Very much hoping its gone by june 19th for an event i'm going too. it's certainly possible so I'm crossing my fingers.

currently have about 3 actives and a few more on their way out with some marks of older ones.

shits weak yo.

day 47 ladies and gentlemen.

So I am a bit disappointed my skin is technically worse than it was at the start of my treatment, however, it's certainly not the worst that it's gotten during the treatment.

I'm recovering from the second breakout I had after doubling my dose to 40mg. I have very few whiteheads left from the second IB , and everything else is drying up quickly and going away.

I'm crossing my fingers that my skin just keeps progressing from here and I am especially hoping that my skin looks much better in 18 days for Firefly festival!

Wish me luck all.

Also a question for accutane veterans, at what point during your treatment did you stop breaking out and only continued to improve everyday?

Day 53

So today I was complimented on how my skin is doing, but tonight i can;t believe it. I haven't gone to wash my face and look at myself in the mirror yet but I feel like it's going to look bad. Ive been breaking out all along my jawline as well as the jowl region , it sucks. I'm also starting to think people don't read this log anymore lol. but oh well i'm going to keep updating it for me to have this process on record.

when will I stop breaking out. I'm on 40 mg now and the side effects are bearable but I really don't want to go higher but i'm afraid my dermatologist is going to try and bump me to at least 60mg.

I really really want to have better skin for 2 weeks from now is it even possible?

day 54? i think

just updating for the sake of updating since no one seems to be on these boards anymore lola.

anyway, things are moving along, I don't believe i've developed any new acne other than the breakout i had a few days ago, all of those are drying up. it's extremely difficult not to pick at them . Sometimes ill scratch and forget and they will pop and bleed.

I've been avoiding moisturizing when i'm not leaving the house because my thinking is the dryer my skin gets the dryer the acne gets and will be gone sooner. is this true?

but at the same token i have also heard that leaving your skin dry causes your body to produce more oil to compensate, so is this actually true and I should be applying moisturize liberally?

crossing my fingers that someone actually answers this within a week lol.

goodluck to everyone else going through this journey!

Hey there! I'm reading your log. Thanks for the great info. You are about 20 days ahead of me so it's good to know what you are experiencing.

As far as moisturizing...DO IT!! Your skin NEEDS moisture and it needs way more when you are on this drug. Use a gentle but effective moisturizer that is noncomedogenic. Cetaphil and cerave are excellent options. Also don't be afraid to use aquaphor on the really dry places overnight.

Hope this helps and I'm sending you clear skin vibes for your event coming up!

Thanks Bordercol! and I do have cetaphil so thats good. I've been trying to get a full nights rest every night, I've noticed it definitely helps with my skin healing faster.

well today is my 3rd dermatology appointment and start of my 3rd month.

I can tell my skin is better, it is all around less inflamed and you can tell the accutane is doing its job despite still having some actives left. I expect things to be fully clear by the end of this month. Hopefully my bloodwork comes back all good.

wish me luck!

I recognise these red bumps you're speaking of! I had them on and off for maybe 2 month. They're a bitch. They're kind of mix between a cyst and white head. Endure through it, because before you know it they'll be gone! Don't worry. :)

hey fellas,

lets see where are we at? ah yes, day 71.

so i went to a music festival and was in the sun a ton, got a nice tan and being in the sun really helped me skin. looked great for about a week. I'm now having a small breakout on the lower right of my face and i can feel another pimple/cyst coming. Im a bit disappointed, i was really hoping by now things would be totally clear.

I'm giving myself till day 100 for that to happen. I've read many people clear up around the 90 day mark. can't wait for this to be over. halfway done!

fuck acne. I wish so badly the accutane would take full effect. my small breakout is getting worse I popped up with like 4 new actives and both lower sides of my cheeks are like cluster bumps with some white heads that are tiny on them. I'm now in week 10 about to enter week 11. when the hell is this going to end????

:(( I know it's hard. Are the breakouts at least becoming less and less severe? I imagine you should see dramatic and complete (or nearly complete) around the 100th-120th day mark. Don't fret if you keep getting small breakouts here and there, as long as there severity is improving, the medicine is doing its job :)

Make sure you are taking the medicine with food. Recent studies have shown an unprecedentedly strong relationship between relapse rates and failure to ingest the medication with food regularly.

yeah I always take it with food, always. and i wouldn't say the breakouts have been more or less severe, if anything more severe since starting accutane. I know it's doing its job cause of my side effects and how fast pimples come and go. my breakout is starting to clear but really hoping there isn't another one around the corner.
