Hi everyone! Everyone here seems so nice so i thought i would share how my experience with accutane goes!

I've been looking at many people's accutane logs for a while now trying to decide whether I should go on it myself or not

a bit about myself: I'm 20, female and Asian with fair skin (i haven't yet seen any female asians taking accutane...?). i've been suffering acne for about 9 years now. it's become cystic acne in the past 4 years. cystic acne runs in my family, so... yea. can't run away from genetics.

I've been on all antibiotics (topical, oral) that are prescribed for acne, you can name any OTC acne treatment, and i would have tried it. I was so worried about all the side effects of accutane, I was too scared to consider it as an option of treatment.

I went to see a new dermatologist earlier this week (didn't like my old one.. tried to prescribe me more antibiotics that did not work in the past.) and as soon as i walked in for a consultation, she looks at me and asked me why I didn't come in earlier. haha

she was very kind to explain and reassure me with the side effects of accutane. i got my blood work done the day I saw my derm and I am going back in next week to get my prescription!

I am hoping (fingers crossed) that this will put an end to my fight with acne that's been going on for 9 years!

took my first pill yesterday, took the second pill today!

im starting on the 10mg for this month, and im being bumped up to a 40mg dosing starting next month

people don't seem to experience much of the side effects of accutane until couple days into their accutane course, but oh boy, i feel the dry lips already and im only on day 2. feeling really thirsty too... i usually have 2~2.5L of water a day. i think i drank well over 2.5L today

anyone feel stomach discomforts when taking accutane?

i kind of felt stomach discomfort last night (not to the point that it was uncomfortable or pain) and went away when i woke up in the morning

no other side effects yet!

just out of curiosity, how many people had their acne come back after their first round of accutane?

ok...kinda seems like im talking to myself, but im gonna keep posting just for my sake

5th pill taken today. not much side effects seen other than dehydration (drinking at least 3L a day). dry lips are on and off, no dry skin yet

noticed a lot of the small bumps caused by whiteheads are going away, nodules and cysts are going away faster than normal but it doesn't stop new ones forming..neutral.gif but definitely have less oil production. my face isn't as shiny as it used to be an hour after doing my makeup

Hi emchang,

I'm starting my third week on accutane tomorrow. I am taking 30 mg a day. I am a quarter asian, I'm not too fair skinned but I do suffer from a lot of hyperpigmentation that I blame my 'asian skin' genes for. Hope your acne will clear up, it's gonna be a loooooong process but hopefully it'll all be worth it at the end :)

Hi emchang, I am female asian too! started roaccutane 20mg/day on 24 Sep, so I'm currently ending my 3rd week. My side effects have been moderate so far - dry lips, drier hair and slightly itchy skin (I have a history of eczema) but they have been manageable through the use of moisturizer and chapstick. I'm looking forward to reading about your progress as we're almost at the same stage. Meanwhile, stay optimistic and drink lots of water! (:
