Hi everyone! I've been reading a few people's blogs about their time on accutane and thought I'd do the same (hopefully with pictures!) so I could track my progress!
Background info: I'm 19 year old girl, currently in university, I've had acne since I was about 13 but for the last 3 years its got significantly worse (moderate-severe). I've been on pretty much every antibiotic available as well as dianette plus topical washes (panoxyl 10) and creams like retin-A and duac. All they seemed to do was make my skin drier and nothing else, I still had horrible skin with small pimples everywhere and recently larger, cystic spots around my chin and lower face, not fun!
I got referred a little while ago and have now been on Roaccutane for 2 weeks (day 14 today!). When I went to get my first prescription at the hospital the nurse told me that my skin was one of the worst she has seen in her 20 years administering the drug, this surprised me so much I thought that my skin was bad but not crazy bad! :/ when she asked the doctor to sign off on my dosage for the first month (30mg) the doctor agreed it was pretty bad and went and got the consultant to have a look too, I was mortified and annoyed that it had taken my GP so long to finally refer me but hey ho at least I'm on it now!
I'm currently on a course of steroids as well for this first month as the consultant hoped that this would calm a major breakout in the first few weeks.
My skin seems a little calmer and less red! The larger cystic acne hot spots seemed to have swelled down a little but I've had quite a few new active pimples but I suppose that is to be expected near the start of the treatment!
Shall try and upload some pictures later!
