Hey guys,

So i wont bore you with background I think were all very similar in the fact that we have tried everything under sun to get rid of this problem I even bought that 'acne no more' ebook and spend 9 months with diet, stress, exersice, liver flushing, sleep, food sensitivites the whole holistic approach which with out a doubt helped but still got breakouts ect...

Like most of you its destroying my life has been for years and and you know what life to too short I figure life is about risks, I have looked at the potental side effects of accutane and im more than willing now to take them on for clear skin.

I love the fact that the world has this site theres no much support here which is just fantastic, Ive been contemplating weather to make a journal on youtube or this, I wasnt going to but people who have done them helped me so go figure razz.gif

So yes I went to the derm 18 months ago he took one look at me and bang accutane, I hadent tried everything at that stage so I wasnt havin it! So tommorrow im going back.

I have two questions,

1. Im going to thailand in jan for 14 nights and that would mean I only would of been on it for a month or so, so should I stop taking it, lower the dose, I know sun/drinking is NOT advised and im not planning in doing alot of either Il ask the derm these things anyway but any info you could provide would be great!

2. This there any diet anyone follows? Im staying away from gluten & dairy they were the biggest sensitivies on my test (which i payed 400$ for!) I got but it seems as long as you have a balanced diet a healthy diet you should be fine?

Thanks in advance, I will continue this log once the accutane journy has begun...

Terence.

Hey, good luck with your course! As for diet, I have wheat and cows milk sensitivities so I'm staying off them for the most part, but cutting out dairy completely for the first couple of months because I know it breaks me out if I eat too much. I'll be following your log :)

Yeah I was highly sensitive to all milks not just cows milk so im defiantly lactose intolerant, so I just stick to almond milk which is nicer anyway in my opinion...

thanks surprised.gif once I start hopefully asap I will update the log regularly and Im not sure weather i should do a youtube one as well hmmmm I might people on there helped me so much plus would be good to go back once your done and watch yourself and see how far youve come,

Ill keep you updated on that too smile.png

haha yeah Im kinda the same ive never made a video before but i figure I may as well would be good to look back once your finished and see... I have no interest at all in having my photo taken at the moment I cant even look people in the eye, but I guess thats the norm for your typical acne sufferer!

So your taking accutane how are you finding it so far?

Also I saw your post about red marks, Im having similar problems, they take at the very least 12 months to disapear but most 18months + kinda ridiculous lol are you doing anything that helps the healing time?

It's definitely the norm, I avoid cameras like the pllaaague! But either video or photo evidence of your progress will help immensely I think :)

Yeah, I'm taking my 8th pill tonight! I'm actually finding it okay atm, hopefully that will continue! I have a tiny bit of joint pain, I had a headache for the first couple of days, dry lips. Also was a little bit oilier at the start, still am a little!

I find that my red marks fade a little faster than a year, my baaaad red marks from about 6 months ago have almost gone and spots that aren't RIDICULOUSLY inflamed (I get those sometimes, soo purple and gross :( ) take about 2 weeks, so don't worry too much :) I have a gross small nodule in the middle of my left cheek atm though haha I think that will take longer to fade though. I'm not atm personally but apparently lemon and honey masks are gentle enough to use on accutane so I may do that sometimes!

Haha yeah I'm not usually the make a video type guy but screw it why not :) ill let ya know. I need to figure out how to work the webcam first lol

Ohk so you have only just started cool cool good luck!!! Ill follow your log as well :)

Yeah I guess at the end of the day there only red marks and WILL fade in time that's what I keep telling my self, I mean things could be a lot worse I feel for those poor people out there that have these permant scars I'm lucky in the fact that I'm not dealing with that...

So I just got out of the derm office, went great he's actually a pretty nice guy went through everything again, have to get a blood test tomorrow and then next Tuesday so 1 week til I start 1 WEEK! Can't come fast enough! so ill be starting this log / YouTube thing then

Hope your going well so far :)

I must say it feels great to finally be on the right track and to able to eat 'normal foods' again

Thanks a lot, good luck to you too!

Yeah exactly, imagine if red marks were permanent crazy.gif !! That would be the worst! I really feel terrible for people who have scars too, I have little pock marks but they kinda look like pores, so I'm not even sure if they are just enlarged pores right now or not haha! I'll have to wait and see.

Yaaay just hold tight for one week :)! You'll be getting started before you know it!

thank you! smile.png

haha yeah if they were permanent id one very depressed mofo...

ohk yeah they sound like just marks, and dont quote me on this but i have heard in some cases of accutane acutally helping the marks fade, but then you hear stories about people having really slow healing time on the drug so everyones differnet i guess...

Thats the thing that kinda scars me a little with the fact that everyone reacts in different ways to this medication so wel have to wait and see, praying I only get a minor effects.

yeap 1 week! I just got back from getting the inital blood work done, so hopefully all goes well not the funnest thing to do in the world but gunna have to get use to it over the next 6 months...

How do you find the blood tests? Was it real pain getting on accutane? I hear girls have a real tough time

Yeah I've heard that too! My healing time has definitely decreased even after only being on it for a week because spots hang around for aaaaaaggesss lately!

You're not alone with being scared, I am too :( But you've just got to look out for anything unusual and take care of yourself.

In England there's no iPledge or anything, you just have to sign a contract type thing where you promise not to get pregnant and use birth control and all thaaat stuff. But for the blood tests you just get given a sheet that the derm fills in and then you walk into the hospital whenever you want and get it done! :) Pretty easy over here, and for that i'm grateful hahaha. I've heard the whole iPledge thing is a pain in the backside :(

Yeah here in Australia I've heard it's not the ipledge but something similar but either way it's a pain for girls, understandably though would suck being one of the babies to say the least!!

Yeah I got some marks that have litterly been there for at least 18 months maybe more and they are only just completely fading but as I've seen people post before its impossible to get on top of all the marks if your still actively getting breakouts no matter how server so once accutane has done its job then they can finally start the healing process... But the marks are the least of my worries once the acne is gorn then life can go on ad before you know it the marks would of healed and you wouldn't of even realised because your worrying about other things!

I've been following your log you seem to be going well so far :) good work!! You should post new pics every month or so would be good to follow the improvement.

Kinda a weird question have you given it much thought as too what life is going to be like once your 100% clear? If acne has effected you in every way possible like me I can't stop thinking about the things ill be doing, the confidence and like just relief. People who dont have the problem just don't realise how serious this can be too people life's! My life / personality will take a 180* turn!

It's very very early days but I'm looking forward it!

Yeah, I can sympathize with all the red marks staying because of the constant breakouts! My skin is so pale so every spot leaves a bad mark :/ kinda sucks, but as you say once the spots stop coming then the red marks will heal a LOT quicker!

Thanks a lot! :D i'm not sure if i'm entering the initial breakout stage or what but getting a couple coming through :/ blegh.

Oh god, my life will just be SO much easier. I'll finally be able to look people in the eye again, not feel completely unattractive to everyone, not have to spend hours on my makeup to still look like crap, stay over peoples houses without having to wake up at the crack of dawn to put on my makeup, not have to check every hour what's going on with my face.......relief is a good way of putting it! I just hope this works for me, and you!!

Haha yeah exactly I could make a long list of things I'm looking forward to, I think the main one is just being able to actually want to look in the mirror as apose to avoiding it! Life's too short for that crap! And yeh looking people on the eye will be a nice change that's for sure :)

I don't know how you could start a relationship when all I think is this... lol

You know a weird thing my derm said, he prescribed an antibiotic and when he said that I'm like nah mate I've been through all this rubbish before but he said its just to help minimise the initial breakout and goes on about in 5 years he's only had one case of a initial breakout. So that was interesting because it seems nearly everyone gets it at some point... And I'm really not into taking antibiotics again for anything but I figure I'm only gunna have to do this once (knock on wood) I may as well just do what he says.

Did your derm say anything about the initial breakout stage?

In all honesty, looking back I have no idea how I started a relationship tbh O_O It's so weird haha! I do NOT let him touch my face though, he gets kinda upset that I don't :( I can't wait till I (hopefully) don't have to worry about that anymore!

Yeah actually it's weird, I read a thread on here about when people had to initial breakout and quite a lot of people said they didn't have one?? I thought most people did too! If this is all I'm getting (touchwood) then I've had one that's just like how I break out usually, but I was on antibiotics for 6 months prior and came off them a week before....I really don't know! I would prepare for one though, just so you don't get your hopes up and then get disappointed, you know? :(

My derm did actually say that I could experience worse acne to begin with, actually so did my doctor and quite a lot of people I talked to about it.....I think everyone's different though and reacts to it in different ways so there's unfortunately no way of telling if you will. You just have to remember that it'll get better, I think that's why I wouldn't totally mind if I did break out more because I know that it's not gunna be continuous like before :)

Also I forgot to ask before, how's Australia? I want to go there one day!

Haha yeah well good on you for at least having a relationship at least your not letting this problem completely control your life, can only imagine how much better it will get once your clear!

Yeah that's prob it i reckon it's the antibiotics they must kill of the bacteria that contributes to the initial breakout maybe not sure as you said everyone's different but according to the stats it's less likely to happen... So ill get the antibiotics today and start taking them still got a few days before I start but would a few days really make any difference lol??

Yeah Australia hmm to be honest I can understand why people say its the best country in the world ect ect but to me it's boring lol I ust to work in Sydney everyday and it got incredibly boring but everyone said its like any city if you spent too long on youd eventually get bored lol! It's so far away from everything too! I can't complain too much tho its got good weather :)

I'd love to see Europe have you done much travelling? England would be great! I've only done America haha (which was amazing!)

Haha I still think about it all the time though! I pick and choose what days to go out based on my skin condition, I've missed sooooo much in the past it sucks :(

Yeah, I've read that tetracycline (what I was taking) just suppresses the bacteria and stops it from multiplying, and if that's true, then surely accutane should push all of the suppressed bacteria to the surface??? It's so confusing crazy.gif I have no idea how it works! Yeah and I thought that antibiotics took about a month to start working anyway.....:s weird! I had to come off them at least a week before I took accutane because they wanted it out of my system before I took it......all derms are different I guess!

Ahh I see! Yeah I bet the weather's amazing, would be SUCH a change to england haha! I'd love to see Sydney, I love big cities so I think I'd like it :)

Yeah if you get a chance def. come to London, I love it so much! I haven't done much travelling :( but i'd love to, I've been to Paris and Utah for a school skiing trip and that's it hahaha!

hmm yeah its a tricky thing these antibiotics the derms go on about who knows I cant see it making much difference if I start it with a few days to go...

haha yeah i nunderstand completely, after spending 9 months with my super strict diet i broke out pretty bad and that was the point when im like SCREW IT! I drove up to my local supermarket and bought all the things I had wanted but turned down for so long i.e ice cream, bread, lollies (all gluten and dairy free :) ) and ive just been eating more 'normal' now cos before it was crazy I was literally survivng on vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish and chicken... basically living like a cave man, my friends would come over sometimes and be eating all this delicious but unhealthy food and it was killing me. I hadent drank alcohol for I think it was 11 months or so and for a 23y guy in Australia thats an extremly long time!!! So now I dont care been eating regualr stuff still staying away from gluten and dairy and yeap ive been breaking out pretty bad not much on my body but my face looks like shit really... So it goes to show diet does play a fairly large role but who can live in the stone age in the 21st centry????

haha yeah i hear the weather is terrible over there! we acutally could use some of the rain your getting at the moment its been pretty dry as of late, yeah I love big cities as well :) would love to see new york though im glad i didnt go a few weeks ago :( poor new yorkers!

yeah I think if europe is ever on the cards it would be impossible not to see london, im a big fan of the gallagher brothers from oasis would be awesome to see them since they never come down here!

Yeah, there are people that are like 'Poor diet is ALWAYS what causes acne!!' But there are so many people that it just doesn't work for! I mean, I hardly ever eat processed food, refined sugars, have been off dairy for a while now, don't eat chocolate/sweets, only eat wholewheat and only white bread once in a blue moon tbh, don't drink alcohol or smoke, take supplements and my skin is STILL bad....

Yeah, like one minute it's sunny and the next it's all grey and rainy, it's like that today haha :S Yeah poor New York :(! I really feel bad for them!

Oooh I see! That'd be so good haha :D

Yeah I think it's simple acne is in your genes! Explains why some people that dont have it can eat what ever they want, be stressed 24/7, don't wash there face and never get acne!

Unfortunately we copped it so we can blame mum or dad for this missery :) I think diet can only help it can't cure it otherwise I would of been 'cured' but I mean who can honestly eat that way nowadays! There were times when I was on the diet that I was clearing up pretty good but I couldn't ever get completely on top of it even if I just juiced greens for ages! So I'm still gunna eat heathy but just keep to a balanced diet, stay away from fast food, lots for fat ect...

Got 4 days! I'm really depressed just want to start this already, I keep going through reading success stories haha it does seem to be a miracle for a lot of people out there, don't want to jinks it but if it does work for me with minor side effects it will be one of the biggest regrets I've ever had not agreeing to do it sooner like a lotta people say!

How's it going for you now? How you feeling?

Btw what does your bf think bout all this? Is he supportive/ understanding?

Yeah, I agree, healthy diet is obviously important but some people can get so worried about what foods they eat and if it will break them out that it causes an eating disorder :( And that is just (if not worse) as bad as acne :(

The weird thing is, no-one in my intermediate family has acne! :( I can't help but think, why me? It's so unfair :( My mum thinks it's on my dad's side though.

I know what you mean about not doing it sooner! But the important thing is that you are doing it :) better late than never right?

I'm okay thanks! :) Got a small bit of back pain and dry lips, hopefully it'll stay this way! (touchwood!) Had a couple of spots come up but nothing more than usual, again hopefully that'll be as bad as it gets haha!

I explained everything to my bf and he said he'd support me with whatever I do which is really nice. He's been supportive so far and tells me to relax and that it'll be worth it and things, I'm glad he understands (or at least tries to haha)!

Yeah your spot on! I went from around 74kgs down to 65 at one stage! Mum was getting really worried but in my mind everything I ate was for clear skin, though I think back to it now and it was a bit obsessive and since I've started eating normal now my moods have been so so so much better and my energy levels have increased, I'm sleeping so much better, every aspect has gotten better!! Except my skin of course haha but still having said that it hasn't broken out nearly as bad as I thought it would...

Ohk that's good that you have a understanding bf your lucky!! :)

Yeah exactly I think ill still be here in 6 months accutane or no accutane... Still just wish I did it early but sure what can ya do!

Hope your going well :)
