I'm a 24 year old male starting my second round of accutane. Took it 7 years ago when I was in high school for facial acne and it cleared it up 100%, still to this day i hardly get any acne on my face.

However, a couple years after that I started developing acne on my chest, back, neck & shoulders. It progressed to the point where it became extremely cystic and painful (see pics). For some reason I wasn't prescribed accutane until now. My derm told me I have a very severe case of ACNE CONGLOBATA. Unfortunately I'm sure I'll have to live with some of the scarring but as long as it takes care of the active pimples and cysts I'll be happy.

I am now beginning week 4 of 80mg a day of Claravis. My skin seems about the same, I'm pretty sure I'm going through the initial breakout now. I understand it takes a few months to work usually so I'm hanging in there....

DAY 26

Haven't seen much progress in my skin. Getting the normal side effects, extremely dry lips, hair and skin. Constantly applying Aquaphor and moisturizers

How much do you weigh? Other than the obvious side effects, have you been experiencing anything else?

I weigh 180 lbs. I haven't experienced any other side effects besides dryness everywhere, sensitive skin, ocassional blood in nose. Going to do blood tomorrow then I begin month 2, hopefully I'll see more progress next month

The stuff on the body takes the longest to heal... so it will likely be a while longer before you see results

DAY 90

So I'm finally starting month 4, still on 80mg/day. I'm starting to notice a slight change in my skin for the better. Still a ways to go but I'm getting less pimples/cysts.

I've also started to develop exzema on my hands, any remedies for this?

From what I've read on here, months 4 and 5 are where you really start to notice a difference, so I have my fingers crossed. My derm also said we might go for a 6th month just to make sure we get it all out.

So I've been done with the accutane for a few months and I must say it helped A LOT. Much fewer active bumps. Still have lots of scarring, will post pics soon

Hey, really glad things worked out for you! I guess it just proves everyone is different in terms of how long it takes for accutane to work, but the end result is almost always the same.
