What's the Cure?
I love PLL.. but I've missed sooooo many episodes
.
I can't see any pictures of you ;(? Am I blind??
And I'm so sorry Gina about that car accident! I hope you're feeling better.Get lots of rest!
Thank you, Taylor! Feeling a lot better now!!!! Hope your weekend in the water and sun is amaaaaazing!!!!
Im curious to how many courses my dermatologist has prescribed. She seems like she knows a lot about it though. So that makes me feel better. If people trust her to get rid of cancer and stuff then I trust her with my accutane course!
When I was taking doxy it worked okay for my skin too. I was getting less breakouts and stuff, but I was still getting new acne still. So that wasn't cutting it for me. Not to mention the huge side effects of not being able to walk thanks to the cycline family of drugs lol. I remember when I decided to stop taking the doxy though it was a easy decision because it wasn't helping my face anyways. Part of me wishes I would have never started seeing my derm because when I started seeing her it was for very mild acne. I swear all the antibiotics and topicals made my skin worse. Anyone else feel like that?
Hopefully you streak of no huge breakouts happening continues! I know you are getting zits here and there still but if you keep going without a huge cluster of zits coming in then I would think the doxy probably purged a lot of what you had under the skin already. Like you said you will find out though. I've read a few logs where people were actually able to continue taking the antibiotics for the first month while also on tane so avoid the IB. Seems like they had a lot of success with that.
Yes, all of the years of antibiotics and topicals gave me cystic acne. I had mild acne like you. But then again, we had no other option at the time. I didn't know about natural remedies or anything. Once it goes cystic, I'm now a firm believer in accutane. Everything else is just pissing in the wind.
Day 26
Got my blood work done today. Hope everything is fine.
I screwed up my neck this morning. I think it was caused by something I did, not Accutane. Although, I'm sure Accutane is making my body fragile and sensitive to my movements. I just think I pulled something. Either way, the right side of my neck is killing me. I barely got off the couch today. I used a heating pad a few times. It didn't help. I took two Advil earlier today. Nothing. I just took two Aleve, so hopefully that'll do something. I'm trying to avoid taking too many pain relievers. I don't want to load up on meds.
Onto my skin... I have one active on my face. It's that lovely cheek zit! It's a pretty nice size still, but it does seem to be healing. It came to a head today, so I put a hot washcloth on it tonight, followed by some Neosporin. Also, the rash on my thigh is almost gone. Hooray!
Anywho. I'm super tired and I just want to rest my neck. Hope you're all doing well!

Sorry you hurt your neck!! Try some ice on there, if it is inflamed that will help out more than a heating pad. Hopefully you are able to get some rest tonight without your neck bothering you too bad! I am super tired today too, being in the sun all day sure takes a lot out of ya. Have a good night and feel better!!! Hooray for the rash going away!
Day 27
Fortunately, my neck is feeling much better. It was still hurting when I woke up this morning, so I took two Aleve. It hasn't bothered me too much today since then. And I barely feel any pain right now. Yay!
The zit on my left cheek is smaller. This thing is taking so long to go away! I mentioned some little bumps on my left cheek as well. Either some have gotten bigger or new bumps have popped up. I can't tell. They don't look like zits in the making though. I'm going to ask my derm about them on Wednesday. Hopefully he'll have an answer. And hopefully they aren't zits waiting to surface. There's a teeny tiny zit popping up on my right cheek now. Doesn't seem like it'll get big, so it shouldn't be anything to worry about.
I also had a nosebleed today. Fortunately, it held off until right when I got home from my little sister's dance recital. I need to start using Simply Saline again. That stuff really helps.
I get those hard bumps where my earlobe attaches to my face also! They are so weird. They flare up, are a little sore at first but they do nothing and then eventually go away. I don't have any of the millia you guys are talking about but I do have some small bumps on my forehead that my derm said were overgrown oil glands - they have to be lasered off if I ever want to get rid of them.
I actually go to one of the physician assistants at my derms office but I love her, she's really open to what I have to say and any research or info I bring her. She has been prescribing accutane for awhile and is pretty knowledgeable about the basics but did not know about cummulative dose. The actual derm had both her sons on it at one point and really believes in it and one of her sons is doing a research something or other regarding accutane and fish oil. I do feel we on the boards here are more informed than the doctors sometimes. I did have to search and search for a derm that was actually willing to work with me regarding my acne - most just want to treat skin cancer. I was only on retin a for a year before trying this - everything I had read and researched said that women my age would think retin a was the bomb but it didn't do shit for me. It mostly just irritated the crap out of my skin. I tried doxy too in the past and it worked for a while but I knew I couldn't stay on it forever and eventually I'd get a yeast infection and then I was just trading one problem for another.
Glad I 'm not the only one who gets those weird lumps! I have no idea if that's a swollen lymph node or what... I'm going to ask my derm because I've had a few there over the years and I'm pretty curious.
I'm not 100% sure if the bumps I have right now are millia or what they are. Gotta ask the derm about that too! Lol.
Yeah, acne is so insignificant compared to other skin issues people face. I always see older people in my derm's waiting room, which makes me feel like he doesn't treat many patients for acne. Who knows. As a matter of fact, my derm acted kind of weird the day he told me I should take Accutane. He was talking about all kinds of stuff, so the conversation is such a blur now. But I distinctly remember him telling me, "Don't tell your friends I treat acne." I don't know what that was about. He's a great derm though... He genuinely seems to want to help me. I guess he just focuses more on skin cancer, etc.
I agree my skin is so sensitive too! I rub up aganist something and it scratches me. I can't believe all the scrapes and cuts I have now that I am on this stuff. Also if I scratch my arm or anything like if I have a itch it feel so or irritated afterwards, turns red and almost feels like its burning for a short while. If I moisturize my body everyday that seems to go away though. I go through fazes where I don't think I am that dry and then I let up a bit on moisturizing and it comes back the next day. I'm not used to being sooo careful with my skin. I treat it like baby skin at this point.
I'm the same way! I have all these little cuts and scratches. It's insane! I'm certainly not a klutz or accident-prone, but I honestly feel like I'm bumping into things more often now. Love how that works out.
Crap, I know how you feel! This injury I got has been pretty bad. I am going to get massage therapy for it hopefully next week.
If it continues to bother you, you might want to see a chiropractor, or someone else you trust with your neck!
It's not feeling better yet, Gina? 🙁 I'm sorry!
Fortunately, my neck pain has almost completely gone away. Such a relief. I've never seen a chiropractor. Is that weird? The idea kind of freaks me out! Lol.

Hope you got some rest!

Hope you got some rest!
Hey! I'm glad your neck is feeling a lot better! I am doing better today as well since I finally got a massage. ahhhhh it was so relaxing!! I almost fell asleep.
Haha that's not weird about not seeing a chiropractor ever. I only go because my parents took me as a kid, and I've always gone whenever I injured myself playing soccer, exercising, car accident, whatever! they're really good if you have musculoskeletal pain or any kind, or even weird nerve issues or headaches. You have to find a good one though...who won't throw your neck around like he's twisting off a bottle cap. My chiro doesn't even touch my neck. He does other back adjustments and even takes x-rays before even touching you the first time!
I have had weird bumps linger for long periods of time, that never come to a head. They have been shrinking on accutane which is good, but unfortunately I think lingering bumps is the dreaded nature of cystic acne. 🙁 I'm curious to see what your derm says about it...
Also wtf is up with him saying not to tell your friends about him? Maybe he's just too busy and doesn't want referrals? That just seems stupid to me to not want more patients. weird....

It sounds like your chiropractor really helps you out. The idea of it still freaks me out! Lol. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I never need one!
Yeah, no idea why my derm said that. He's super weird... Good guy, but weird...
My dermatology office doesn't want referrals either. They have a 6 month waiting list to even get a first time appointment there. It seems pretty typical that derm offices have the luxury of saying no to patients. My office does Botox and all the superficial stuff too so I think they are packed with people who want bigger lips and no laugh lines. I friend of mine goes of the same office that I do and she had to wait 8 months to be seen. Terrible in my opinion. I know when I first got my referral that I called around to probably 10 different offices and all of them had a 4 -6 month wait for a initial appointment. It could be that your derm doesn't want to center his career around ance maybe he focuses on cancers and more serious stuff like that. Or maybe he is just really busy already! As long as he is doing the right thing for you that is all that matters though!
I love love love going to the chiropractor! Getting a adjustment is the best feeling in the world! I was scared the first time I went. I was like 10 probably, my mom always brought me for injuries and when I was a early teen I got bad migraines and he treated those as well. I just feel better all over after that!

Yeah, that's what I figured. Plus, his website says he treats all skin conditions, but specializes in treating skin cancer. So, I'm sure that's probably what he likes to focus on. I remember my first appointment with him. He commented on my fair skin, freckles, and red hair and handed me a pamphlet on skin cancer. Lol. Blame my Irish background.
I had no idea that could help with migraines. I don't get them, but my best friend gets terrible migraines that keep her in bed pretty much until they're gone. She has to take a ton of meds.
I am Irish too! Mostly English but I got like 30% Irish in me too. Little french and german too hahaha. My older sister has very fair skin and red hair and green eyes! For some reason she never got freckles though! I know she has to be super careful in the sun. She always gets burnt and it never turns into a tan. It suits her well though. I am sure that is what he like to focus on. I know that is what my dermatologist focus's on too. Seems like most of them specialize in that rather than other skin conditions. As long as they know about the acne and the medications that they are prescribing it is cool with me though
It really can help with migraines! You should suggest it to you best friend. See if maybe that could help her. My oldest sister the one I was talking about in the above paragraph got terrible migraines too. She never saw a chiropractors for hers though. I can remember coming home from school and she would have all the curtains pulled and it is pitch black in my house, and not a noise could be made around her without her coming to tears from the pain or the light. They really can be debilitating for some people. Hers got better once she started birth control pills though. Hers were tied into hormonal issues. I personally got stress related migraines when I was younger. They started around my parents divorce when I was 11. Now that I am older I get them for no reason at all, about once every 3 months I get one. Getting out of bed isn't even a thought. All I can do is sleep. Sometimes it hurts too bad to do that though. Ugh terrible!

Awww! I don't think I've ever had a migraine before (knock on wood), but I've definitely had bad headaches from this injury and past injuries, and oddly enough, I've been congested in my nasal passages from this accident. Seriously, after a few adjustments, I could breath better and I was less congested! It's seriously amazing stuff, those wacky chiros!!!!

Yay for Irishness! I'm German and English as well. I don't think I have any French in me though! Your sister sounds like me... I always burn and never tan. My freckles either get darker or I get more though. That's about it. I have blue eyes though. Lol.
I'll have to let my friend know. She's looked into so much stuff, but I'm not sure if that's something she has considered though. She recently found out she has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and the doctor she works for thinks that could be causing the migraines. They make her nauseous and she's unable to do anything. Plus, she used to have them numerous times a week! I think she has maybe one a week now.
Ugh. I'm sorry! 🙁 That sounds so awful. I can't even imagine what that must feel like.
Day 28
One thing that I haven't mentioned here, but just haven't been able to get over lately is how good my chin is looking Seriously, my chin was always my only problem area. Now it's clear and has been for a while. For some reason I have been mainly struggling with my cheeks since late last year. Other than some red marks, my chin, my right cheek, and my forehead are all perfectly fine. If only my left cheek would catch up
Speaking of which, the zit that I thought was popping up on my right cheek appears to be going back into hiding. So, the only active acne I currently have is the pesky zit on my left cheek and the zit on my scalp (on the left side of my head). What is it with the left side of my body and Accutane? The zit I had on my chest and the two zits I had on my shoulder were also on the left side of my body. So weird, although I'm sure it's just a strange coincidence.
Overall, my skin has been responding well. The thought that it could get worse terrifies me though But I'll try to think positive.
My left cheek is worse, too. Probably a coincidence, but weird that I am experiencing the same thing...
Be brave! Don't think about it getting worse at all!!! I think if you're seeing clearing this early, it means it will only get better. Just don't do what I did and start experimenting with all these different skincare products. I think that's what gave me a few new spots.
When is your appointment?

Hmm. I'm pretty sure you must be my 'tane twin. 😛
Thanks for the positivity! I really do think it's a good thing that things are already looking good. The breakouts I've gotten haven't been anything too bad, fortunately. This one on my cheek has been the worse so far. Damn thing!
My appointment is Wednesday. When is yours?

That sounds so awful. I can't even imagine what that must feel like.
Once a week! That is terrible! Hopefully they can figure something out with the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and that will help the migraines! Once a week would be a nightmare, I feel so bad for her! Not to get out of bed once a week ( if they only last a day, mine can last 3 or 4 days) would be a horrible. I thought having them every 3 months was bad! I can't even imagine what her life must be like suffering like that! Yikes!

Great to hear that you are responding so well Rachel!! That is great! Sounds like all of us are starting to clear up!! It is pretty amazing to have so much of my face without nasty zits! The marks left behind are much easier to cover up! Hopefully I can find the find foundation and then only I will know I have those 🙂
My left side of the face is completely clear of any acne!! My right side is almost there! My jaw is catching up. ( still worried about that under the skin cyst feeling thing). Chin has a couple little scabby things that are almost gone. Same with my forehead! Pretty cool!
Scalp zits are a pain, but at least no one else can see them 🙂 Hope that one on your cheek heals up quickly!!
I think that you are in the clear of further breakouts if you stay on this dosage!! Stay positive and I think you will be good!

Ugh. I'm sorry!
Yikes!
Day 28
One thing that I haven't mentioned here, but just haven't been able to get over lately is how good my chin is looking¦ Seriously, my chin was always my only problem area. Now it's clear and has been for a while. For some reason I have been mainly struggling with my cheeks since late last year. Other than some red marks, my chin, my right cheek, and my forehead are all perfectly fine. If only my left cheek would catch up¦
Speaking of which, the zit that I thought was popping up on my right cheek appears to be going back into hiding.
The thought that it could get worse terrifies me though¦ But I'll try to think positive.
Great to hear that you are responding so well Rachel!! That is great! Sounds like all of us are starting to clear up!! It is pretty amazing to have so much of my face without nasty zits! The marks left behind are much easier to cover up! Hopefully I can find the find foundation and then only I will know I have those
My left side of the face is completely clear of any acne!! My right side is almost there! My jaw is catching up. ( still worried about that under the skin cyst feeling thing). Chin has a couple little scabby things that are almost gone. Same with my forehead! Pretty cool!
Scalp zits are a pain, but at least no one else can see them
Hope that one on your cheek heals up quickly!!
I think that you are in the clear of further breakouts if you stay on this dosage!! Stay positive and I think you will be good!
I know! I don't know how she deals. They usually last a couple days. She was having them numerous times a week. It's absolutely insane. Especially since she was having all these tests done and no one could figure out a cause. That's scary.
Try not to worry about that cyst! It's probably nothing, but ask your derm about it on Thursday. Has it gotten smaller at all?
And I'm definitely glad no one can see these painful scalp zits! So weird though!
I think my derm will keep me on 40mg, so that will be good!
My left cheek is the one that used to be horrible, I mean HORRIBLE. and now it's 100% clear, while my right cheek is taking the beating, and that one used to be the good one!
Thankfully I don't have red marks because for 3 months I got 3 VBEAM laser treatments. Each required a week downtime, but soo worth it. My marks used to be purple, and now they aren't even there anymore.
In case 6 months after Accutane you guys have red marks (not scars) left, please consider that treatment.
Some of the marks may bruise when you get it done, I had a few bruise, but it all goes away haha. If you want more details I can explain!

I've never heard of that. Sounds interesting though! I'm glad it worked for you! 🙂
My derm once prescribed me a topical treatment that got rid of my red marks pretty quickly. I'm definitely going to try to get another prescription of that when my course is over. Red marks are such a pain when you get them!
Thankfully they aren't indented.
What's the cream??
Definitely! I couldn't imagine trying to repair indented ones... Glad I've never had those.
The cream was called Biafine. It worked really well. Then he prescribed me some other stuff called PruTect a year or two later and it didn't work at all.
