Hello people,
I decided to start blogging about my journey on the regimen which I hope it will help me keep going and share my experience to other acne sufferers.
Fist thing first, about me, I will be 31 this year. I always have problem with acne since I was 16!! Horrible. I've been on Accutane before. It works wonderful but when I stopped it my skin became so oily and I had acne again. This time, I don't want to take Accutane anymore as I plan to get married and have babies.
I have started the regimen on 26th February 2015. I didn't order the kit from Dan as it is quite costly for a delivery in UK. The following items are what I use:
Morning
- Bioderma Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel
- Benzac 2.5% BP
- Bioderma Sebium Hydra - Moisturising Replenishing Care
Night
- Bioderma Sensibio H2O - Micelle Solution
- Bioderma Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel
- Benzac 2.5% BP
- Bioderma Sebium Hydra - Moisturising Replenishing Care
Currently, I use about 1/3 finger length of BP. So far, I experience skin drying (not so much), tinkling feeling around my nose, itchiness in some parts of my face, redness. I feel since I start the regimen, I got small pimples (cannot see but I can feel it when I wash my face) all over my face. I think it is because of BP and I hope they will dry out soon. These days I try not to use make up (except for eyebrows). Today I also used concealer just under my eyes as I am quite insecure about my face. The first week seems so long and I can't wait to have clear skin. I think when my face got clearer I will change my moisturiser as the one I use make my face looks so oily.
I will keep posted.
Good night
This is the start of my week 2.
This morning I decided to change my moisturiser as the one I currently use made my face looks extremely oily. I change to Caudalie Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Fluid SPF15. It did not break me out but I find it's still not moisturise my skin enough. A good thing is my face was not oily at all today. Also, I increased my BP to a 2/3 finger length. Probably, this is my why my skin feels so dry. I looked in the mirror and my face looks so dark and red comparing to my neck.
Tonight I am also going to change the moisturiser as I feel the current one does not sink into the skin properly. Hopefully this will make my skin less dry.
will keep update.
Good night.
Just wanna give a quick update about the moisturiser I changed last night. I use
Caudalie Vinoperfect Cell Renewal Night Cream. I applied a lot more than what I usually used. Still, my face felt burn and itchy which I suspected it was from the increase BP amount. It was so bad that I put another gulp of Bioderma Sebium Hydra - Moisturising Replenishing Care on so that I could sleep. Woke up this morning and my skin looks OK. No new zit.
Today is the end of my week 2.
On Day 10th, I had to get up early and didn't have time to do the regimen.. the result?.. well, I got new zit by the end of the day! and the next another one!!!!
Other than that, it was just typical skin days - dry, super super dry!! , and a bit flaky - oh and itchy as well. My face is not so red any more, maybe it kinda adjusts to the BP level I use now. I am not quite sure if I should up the BP level to full finger yet. Maybe I shall wait a couple of days...
I am planning to order Cetaphil cleanser as my current one is running low. Been reading a lot about it, though it's got a mixed review, I think I wanna give it a go. Let's see how that goes.
Anyway, that's all for week 2.
Bring on week 3!!!
This is the last day of week 3 (Day 21th).
I have moved up to a full finger length BP this week. My skin was feeling like it was burning after I applied moisturiser on the first couples of days, but later subsided. I got a lot of new pimples this week - 2 big ones (at my jaw line near my ear and on my neck), 1 big bump (on my temple), 2 small white heads (on corner of my mouth, and on my chin). I am not sure if it is because I changed to new cleanser and moisturiser. I have bought a Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and Cerave PM. I love both of them. Cetaphil seems to help reduce my redness and Cerave does not make me look oily and also help with the redness. Although, I find that Cerave does not moisturise me enough - I still feel my skin is a bit dry.
I am not sure if I broke out more this week is because:
1) people tend to break out at week 3 or
2) I changed moisturiser and cleanser or
3) I changed my diet (I want to increase my weight) or
4) I ate a lot of crap food this week i.e. a bag of Wotsits, lots of cokes, etc.
In my opinion I think it's the combination of 3) and 4)
Anyway, I hope next week gets better.
Good night
Today is the last day of week 4 (Day 28th). Currently, my routine is:
Morning:
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser
Wait 15 mins
Benzac 2.5 % BP
Wait 15 mins
Cerave PM
5 mins
*Make up if need be
N.B. I plan to get a sunscreen this week. Still researching but haven't found any good choice yet.
Night:
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser
Wait 15 mins
Benzac 2.5 % BP
Wait 15 mins
Alternate between Cerave PM and AHA 10%
Earlier this week my face got extremely red and I felt slightly burnt which I thought it is caused by applying too much of BP. So, I reduced the BP to a very slim line of finger length. I used this amount for a couple days and the redness seemed to reduce. Anyway, I got a new acne right on my forehead a couple days ago. I don't know if it's because I reduce the BP or just an odd acne that I get. It was quite red and hurt when I touched it. I hope it goes away soon.
It's been a month since I started the regimen and I'm not yet to see the result that I hope for. Before I started the regimen my skin was not bad but it was not smooth in some areas such as fore head and jaw line. Now, my skin feels much smoother. I don't feel burning sensation that I usually get with BP anymore or if I do it's very slightly. However, I feel that my skin is very dry, and the colour of my face and neck are totally different shade.
I hope by incorporating AHA, my skin tone will be improved. Looking forward to week 5!
This is the start of week 6, but let me summarise what happened in week 5. I've got a couple new acne on my chin, and near my ear lobe. The acne healed pretty fast, it was only a couple days then it's gone. My face is not as dry any more and since I reduced the usage of BP my face is not as red as it was before. Now, I use about half finger length BP where I often break out i.e. chin, near my hair line and a bit of my forehead. I still no see the result from AHA yet. My face seems to be a bit red the following day if I use AHA at night. I started using sunscreen for about 2 days now since we're started to get more sun in UK now and I'm afraid my skin will get burnt after I use AHA. I use Shiseido Expert Sun Aging Protection SPF 50. So far it doesn't break me out, so finger crossed. That's all for my week 5.
Hey,
today is the start of week 7th!
What happened in week 6th are:
- I got some new zits on the areas that I didn't apply BP i.e. my jaw line near my ear, side near my ear, my temple. Actually, when I am writing this I realised that it could be from my shampoo? I mean look at these areas. I think I will start experimenting with the shampoo now. OK, I shall make that a mission.
- I've been using my sunscreen for over a week now and yeah it's great. Don't apply too much, else your face will become so oily. I reduced the amount of moisturiser that I used so that my face is not oily quickly throughout the day.
- My skin still looks dry. I am not sure whether it's because the moisturiser I use is not moisturising enough or what..
- I started using AHA every night 2 days ago. No severe stinging or anything. Will see if this is a good choice or alternate day is a better one.
So, that's it a summary of week 6. Looking forward to week 7th

Are you using AHA on it's own or with moisturiser? I too don't experience any stinging so we are very lucky! Oh and I had a breakout that was caused by shampoo so I stopped using that and switched to another one and I haven't had a breakout on the forehead in a while now..

Hi William,
I'm using AHA on it's own, but it's not the AHA+ from Dan's. I use a brand called Alpha Hydrox.
So what shampoo you are using now? I changed to Johnson's baby shampoo last week and it was OK for the first few days. I find my hair is super dry though, so I bought Johnson's baby conditioner, but I think it broke me out I got a couple acnes on very strange place such as my near my ear and one on my neck. I don't know.. perhaps I have to use only the shampoo.
This is the 2nd day of week 8!
So, here is summary of my week 7:
- Changed to use Johnson's & Johnson's baby shampoo + conditioner
- Got 1 acne on my neck, 1 near my ear, 1 on my jaw toward my neck
- Now using AHA every night, no redness, or bad stinging feeling
- I use BP pretty much around my face i.e. jaw line, hair line, and chin only because this is where I normally break out.
- Sunscreen still doesn't give me break out. Love it. I'm not afraid of sun anymore! haha
In search for the best shampoo & conditioner continues...
That's all for me. Good night.
That's weird because I had a breakout on the back of my ear like last week maybe? I don't think it's the shampoo because the shampoo that I've been using is an anti dandruff shampoo which has

That's weird because I had a breakout behind my ears about a week ago also so I thought that was pretty strange. I use Selsun Blue which has 1% selenium sulphide because I had dandruff problems and this shampoo fixed it but I'm not sure if that could be the cause but people on these forums suggest head & shoulders which is supposed to be amazing at clearing scalp, body acne etc so I think I'm going to try that but you should check it out.
