Hey guys! It's been really humid where I live so my back acne has been coming back. I have prom in a couple of weeks so I was worried. I had been using Clindamycin Phosphate topical gel for a while before and my back was clear.
I had tried everything before that, such as apple cider vinegar, Murad Acne body spray, Neutrogena Body Acne Wash, Head and Shoulders, Gold Bond Powder, etc. My back acne was moderate, but it sometimes got very bad. I found all those products seemed to make my acne worse or not help at all.
My skin is very dry and sensitive so I think those harsh products were way too much for my skin. I have found the simpler methods have been the most effective.
I got the topical gel prescribed by my doctor and it's amazing. It's a very light gel, very liquidy. It doesn't burn or itch whatsoever. When it dries, it feels a bit sticky but you can't feel it unless you touch your back with your hands. It's nothing like all the other products I tried, which is why I think it works.
Here's my routine, it's very simple:
I put no products on my back while showering (other than the shampoo and conditioner that I can't avoid) I wash my back while letting hot water run down it for a minute, and then cold water, and then hot, and then cold. It brings blood to my back, which I believe helps heal my back. Plus, it feels really nice.
I then put a layer of the Clindamycin Phosphate gel on my back, focusing it in the center of my back (which is where my acne is the most problematic). I let it dry for a couple of minutes and then put on my t-shirt and go on with my life.
To describe my acne:
My back gets red, splotchy, and itchy. Skin-colored bumps appear. Medium-sized blemishes and a few larger under-the-skin ones. I don't really have a big problem on the sides of my back, like my shoulder blades. My problem is the very top, center of my back. I also get a few on my lower back.
I really hope this helps some of you! I know how terrible the feeling is when a certain hyped product doesn't work for you. If your skin is like mine and seems to be rejecting harsher products, maybe you could give this a go! Good luck to all of you and don't lose hope!
BTW- My first bottle of clindamycin phosphate was by the brand Greenstone Brand.
I now have a different brand called Clindagel, but I don't really think it's that different.
Jeez, sorry this was so long! Feel free to ask questions !
thanks for commenting on my post I am on my 2nd day using this and I really hope it works quickly and effectively for me.. how long did it take for you to clear up your back fully?
lucky you at least having the bacne right in the centre of your back you could probs wear racerbacks.. for me it's mostly on my shoulderblades and shoulders so I can't even wear sleevless tops
how does the hot/cold thing help? I am looking for all possible suggestions

No worries! And I hope it works, too! It took about a couple of weeks for it to be clear. I was really amazed though because nothing has worked this well.
As for the shower, after I shampoo and condition, I just let my back stand directly under the shower. I first run hot/warm water down my back for a minute or two. I then turn the water so it's cold and then do the same. And I repeat that process for however long I can stand it.
I read someone on this site before do it so I tried it, and so far it's been good! It works because the rapidly changing water temperature brings a lot of blood to your back. The blood has cells in it that heal the blemishes on your back (sort of like how blood rushes to a bruise to heal the injury). I also like ending with the cold water on my back because cold water closes your pores, which have been opened by the steamy shower. Sorry I can't give a full medically correct explanation lol
Hey there! I'm glad you found something that has worked for you!
I have used Clindamycin Phosphate Topical 1% Gel in the past with success. It has a nice cooling feeling when you apply it and is also easy.
It's actually better when joined side by side with benzoyl peroxide, the term is "BenzaClin" ( lol )
I used a 10% BP Wash in the shower and applied Clinda Gel, and that made me clear for a nice long time. It is a really strong chemical though, so you must make sure to wear an SPF.
Sorry to revive an old topic, but I was just prescribed some of the stuff the OP mentions, Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Lotion (1%) - Greenstone Brand, for facial acne but will be trying the OP's application method for back and body acne. For the record, I've had body acne for upwards of 8 years (over 1/3 of my life) and really have not been able to get rid of it with any success.
I'll report back in a few weeks and will update on how it goes!
