New Responsive Design

The Acne.org forum has historically used a special theme for mobile phones but this was never an ideal solution. First and foremost it didn't work at all with tablets, making the tablet experience sub-par. Sometimes the mobile theme wouldn't trigger or users wouldn't wrongly be served the mobile skin on a desktop browser. There were also many missing features in the mobile skin.

We've been working on a solution in the form of a responsive design. This means the forum will now respond to your devices and it's size. If you make your browser window smaller, the size of the forum will respond in real-time and when you visit on your mobile phone, you'll be served the exact same website, with all of the features but in a format that works perfectly on your phone.

Your feedback will help us ensure you get the best possible experience regardless of what device you're using.

It looks good. Everything runs smoothly and I don't see any issues at all. I would just run the desktop version on my phone, but there was always a lot of re-sizing so this looks like a good move.

I do have two suggestions though, and one is to bring back the most recent post info on the main forum page. I know space is at a premium on mobile, so I'd recommend taking away the number of threads/replies info towards the right of each forum, then replace it with the info like who posted recently, at what time, and in what thread. For me, this was very useful info.

Also, I thought having profile pictures in the threads was good because it made recognizing members a little easier. I'd imagine you could add a small profile picture next to the name without making it too cluttered.

But apart from the first suggestion, the latter is just splitting hairs. I think it is a huge upgrade from the previous mobile version; which I never used simply because it was lacking info and unappealing. If it matters, I am using a rooted Driod 3 with a custom ROM installed, viewing the webpage with the stock browser.

Hi Paul,

The new format looks good with the auto re-sizing etc. My only issue is that on my phone I can't see:

1. new notifications

2. new messages

3. Community tab

the only thing that shows is my profile, and forums. Nothing else.

ETA: I realise now that I can see the community tab and everything under it, just not notifications and PMs.

I love the 'responsive design' :) but notifications and messages for mobile would be great. Also if there's a way to get the option to 'go to last unread post' for mobile that would be great to (for threads and messages if possible).

I would like to see the return of Avatars/Profile Pictures. I recognize frequent posters by their avatars, and also differentiate between different posters in any topic by pictures. With just usernames I honestly have no idea who anybody is.
