I'm currently on week 5 of the Acne.org regimen. I've noticed some improvement, but I still break out constantly and have lots of scarring. My skin is getting dry and flaky even after using the Acne.org moisturizer. Would it be okay if I add another moisturizer on top of it?
I really wish I didn't have acne it is so bad for my self-esteem
Hello,
I hope what I am about to share may be useful for you.
At week 5, you should see good improvements on your skin. You should try to ramp up your BP to 2 pumps as that will be optimal at killing the acne bacteria.
You will also feel itchy, and dryness. There should also be redness. At week 5 I was more red than week 2 or 3. I used the acne.org moisturiser and even have a spare bottle at my work desk so that I can reapply during mid day or at 3pm. My view is that while the acne.org moisturiser is great, it does not penetrate my skin enough.
Try using cerave moisturising cream. It has a Matt finish, but is thicker than acne.orgs moisturiser. At night, I would mix some jojoba oil into the cerave moisturiser on my palm thoroughly before applying it onto my face. This have given me amazing results. I no longer have flaky skin or redness. Also, I noticed with one application in the morning of the cerave moisturiser, I need not reapply during the day - it is that moisturising.
I am in week 12 of the regimen, and I have not had any acne in the last 4 weeks. I am at the phase where I am slowly letting my hyperpigmentation subside. Every morning, I would look into the mirror to see if the hyperpigmentations are fading. It sure Beats worrying about new acne forming.
The cerave moisturiser also blends very well with acne.orgs AHA. It works wonders for me.
Hope this has been helpful. All the best!
Thank you.
May I also add that at times, I use up to 3 pumps of BP. The BP is the heart and soul of the regimen. Cerave should help combat the dryness.
Lastly, you may want to examine your lifestyle and your surrounding. Do you pick or touch your face unknowingly during the day? Do you change your pillow case frequently ? Do you use a clean towel ? Is your water source clean?
Something which I found not covered very much on the acne.org website is the skin barrier. It is very true that irritation causes acne. Ceraves moisturiser creates a skin carrier that makes your skin less irritated, hence less acne outbreak too. I know I preach a lot about cerave, and jojoba oil, but it truly have done wonders for me.
Cheers!

Hey, thanks a lot for your detailed response! I try to put a towel over my bed every night, but I definitely pick at my skin and have too much dairy in my diet. I have started using AHA and jojoba oil in Week 5. I'll try the CeraVe moisturizer too, thank you for your recommendation.
I have seen a lot of improvement since starting the Regimen, but I just feel discouraged because my skin is not clear yet. Thank you for sharing that your acne went away by Week 8! I will just be patient and stick to the plan and hopefully my skin clears too. Are you using any sunscreen?
