Hi, I've looking around the subject of "weaning off" benzoyl peroxide, and A LOT of the forums say that after using the BP it takes months for pimples / hyper pigmentation to fade, which I've experienced myself. Beforehand, It only took a couple of days. I was wondering why this isn't more of a serious issue especially with the welcome screen of acne.org saying "No longer time side effects" But this is forsure a BIG side effect! I would have really considered using BP more in the first place if I knew this would happen! Now my skin is really dependent on BP and now whenever I try to wean off I get TONS of pimples and they last for months. Help?

It's not that your skin is dependent on BP. BP does NOT cause skin dependency, that is a very common myth on here, that your skin will get "hooked" on BP and you'll never be able to stop. The reason why you break out when you reduce the treatments is that your body is still producing acne bacteria, and/or still experiencing hormonal imbalances. Stop or reduce the treatments and yeah, acne will come back. Although many find they can get away with using less treatment and still stay clear, this is also possible. Once these things stop happening and acne naturally resolves (even if you've used BP for decades!!), you won't need it to stay clear. I'm living proof of that!

BP is not an acne cure. It merely stifles the symptoms so you can enjoy clear skin until acne naturally resolves.

Hope this helps clarify! :)
