What is the point of SLATHERING your skin in BP?

Like, I'm a long term user of BP. 5 and 10%. I used to use it as a spot treatment but recently have been applying BP 5 and 10 over most of my face (except areas that get overly dry or where I don't get acne).

What I don't understand about The Regimen is why so DAMN MUCH of the 2.5% product is needed to be slathered all over your face? Why should it not just be used sparingly? As in... not a finger-length, but more like 0.5-1cm length. The studies say that 2.5 and 10% are as effective as each other, so what is the reasoning behind the slathering of the product? If you have ageing skin I can just see that as a complete disaster.

Well with old age comes less acne so that's irrelevant IMO. To answer your question though, not everyone needs a thick coat but its still critical you get every square centimeter of your face (atleast for me) with a light coat. If I miss spots then sometimes ibreak out in that exact spot. If I cover my whole face it adds up to a decent amount but I wouldn't call it "slathering" my whole face. Its a necessary amount.

Using a sparing amount of any formula means more rubbing, which can be abrasive on sensitive, acne-prone skin and won't guarantee that all the affected areas are adequately covered. Dan formulated the Acne.Org 2.5% BP gel to glide easily and gently over skin. Using more will help you be gentler, and ideally when done correctly, your fingers won't even touch your skin, minimizing any irritating rubbing which can lead to breakouts. Dan recommends more because he discovered through trial & error that for most users, it works best with more, and once skin is used to the treatment, when in doubt, use more. Of course, it's up to each user to ultimately determine what's best for their skin and how much treatment is needed to stay clear.

It's best to do the Acne.Org Regimen as directed until you're clear and have been clear for awhile. Then you can experiment with using less treatment. Using less treatment is better than using less of a stronger formula, but either method is fine. But following Dan's recommendations will yield the best results.

Hope this makes sense!
