Mild Acne - Still Safe To Start The Regimen?

Hi,

After hearing lots of good things about the Acne.org regimen, I am very interested in using it to help achieve clear skin. A little bit of background information about me:

  • I have not really suffered from acne during puberty - only a few pimples here and there, but mostly pretty clear.
  • Last year, it was discovered that I had hyperthyroidism and I was put on medication to regulate my thyroid levels. It was also last year when I started to work really long hours for work and was also very stressed from school. I believe it was a combination of these factors that made my skin worse and worse. I am unsure if it was a side effect of the medication, but it seems like that could be a possibility.
  • I have tried lots and lots products for my skin, and my dosage of the medication has been reduced. Now, I find that most of my active acne is gone and I am mostly dealing with a lot of red acne scars leftover. However, I still do get new acne especially during that time of the month and also random pimples occasionally.

I did read that it is good to prevent new active acne so that new acne scars don't occur, and thus I am still interested in trying the Regimen. I am prepared that my skin will experience redness and flaking and dryness as my skin gets used to the BP. And I am perfectly okay with that if I can achieve clear skin.

However, I am worried if it is not worth it for my skin to go through that if my skin is not suffering from as much active acne as before, and I am just mostly dealing with hyperpigmentation. Also, I am worried about easing off the regimen in a couple of months as I transition more into products that focus on dealing with hyperpigmentation. Would it be okay to ease off the regimen by reducing BP amounts incrementally just as I will increase the BP amount I use gradually when I start the regimen?

Thank you very much in advance for your input! :)

For your case, if I had mild acne, I would try the AHA+ before starting the full blown regimen. I started the regimen because my acne was severe and it was my last step before I tried accutane.

The AHA+ is a great measure to get rid of acne quick and also makes the hyperpigmentation go away a lot faster than it usually does.

Thank you for your reply! So I would apply the AHA+ in place of my moisturizer about two weeknights a week, or mix it in with my moisturizer every night - right?

I would recommend mixing a small amount in with your moisturizer and slowly increasing. People who don't have sensitive skin can tolerate straight AHA+ a couple times a week in place of moisturizer but this is the exception, not the rule. I'd start with a pea-size amount mixed with lots of moisturizer and see how you do. If your skin tolerates this no problem the first couple of weeks, then increase to one pump of AHA and one pump of moisturizer. This is an optimum dosage and works well. You can also mix in a few drops of jojoba oil for good measure if needed.

Good luck! :)

I do not recommend you starting the Regimen! I had very mild acne and thought I would try the Regimen to completely get rid of it but it ended up making me break out more )= I am still on the regimen because I hope it'll make the acne it brought out go away. I regret starting the Regimen because of the side effects were not worth it if you have little acne. Hope this helps!
