Advice On Starting The Regimen?

Hi everyone!

So I visited the derm for the first time 5 days ago and started treatment with an antibiotic and a bunch of other stuff. After reading many topics on how antibiotics are not healthy to depend on, I decided I want to do the regimen instead...however, I'm scared that once I stop this treatment and start a new one, my skin will get even worse.

So far, my skin looks pretty much the same. I have mild acne, along with red marks, on my cheeks. I know its only been 5 days, but I am really considering on changing to the Regimen and stopping what my derm prescribed me.

Any advice on what to do?

Thanks!!!

I could only talk from my experience. I had mild acne with redmarks and the regimen did made me break out while darkening my red marks. I am not saying the regimen is bad, I'm saying that if red marks are a concern for you i would avoid benozyl peroxide and unless you have a more severe acne problem i.e besides for marks new zits keep coming up, I would not reccomend the regimen.

Based on my experience in these past couple of months in the Regimen, the only thing that is not gone from my face is the acne marks. In time, hopefully these marks will go away. I can tell you that the Regimen works though. It cleared my face from acne/zits/pimples. When you first start out the regimen, just know that your face will be VERY dried and you will start peeling a lot. It scared the crap out of me and thought it will take forever to go away. It took about 2 weeks for the dryness to go away. Anyways, good luck on the Regimen if you do try it out. Remember, start out slow.

Chin0: Great advice! Especially starting slow. I highly recommend the Reg...cleared me in just a couple of months.

cpluver09: Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

antibiotics can mess up your system, but you can always take a probiotic to keep your good bacteria. when i was in junior high i took antibiotics and they worked well but after i stopped it was the same old acne until i introduced benzoyl peroxide.

Is the antibiotic oral?

If so, what I would do is take the oral antibiotic and start the Regimen. The first month on the Regimen is really about getting your skin used to the benzoyl peroxide, not getting completely clear. After being on the Regimen two months, the regimen will probably be doing a good job clearing your skin on its own, at which point I would ween off the oral antibiotic. That's what I would do, anyway.

Just make sure that if you take oral antibiotics, you take a probiotic 2 or more hours later to replenish the healthy bacteria in your gut.

Thank you all who responded! I actually went to another derm for a second opinion and found a regimen that I think is starting to work for me. However, if it does backfire on me sometime I will definitely consider turning to the Regimen.

If you start antibiotics you should definitely keep taking them for the amount your dr prescribed. Going off antibiotics too soon can mess things up. I just got some minocyclen today and I plan on taking probiotics with it to help my good bacteria. If it's your first time taking antibiotics for acne and it's just for a couple months I think you're ok. I think people who have been on them for months and months and lots of different times are the ones who deal with bad side effects and good bacteria in the stomach being destroyed.
