Hi guys,

I was hoping to see if anyone had any advice please.

I'm 28 and started using BP about 3 months ago. Initially I used BP 5% or 10% for about 6 weeks, mainly 10% as I thought this would be more effective (whoops), I also didn't actually even moisturise (whoops again). Also triple whoops as I was using an exfoliating scrub to try and get rid of the dry skin.

Then I thankfully read about the regimen here 6 weeks ago - saw sense and realised I needed to use a gentle (non scrub) cleanser, use Dan's 2.5% BP and moisturise (cetaphil lotion / eucerin 5% urea face cream). I've also been using AHA+ for the last 4 weeks.

Basically I noticed about 6 weeks ago that when I smile I get these fine lines / wrinkles (lots of them running in parallel) on my upper cheeks (pictures below showing not smiling and smiling to highlight the difference, and skin wise I'm of Pakistani/Indian origin).

I have searched the forum and found some other posts mentioning BP and wrinkles, but people seemed to think it was just temporary from dehydration / dry skin. I drink lots of water and moisturise twice a day . I'm genuinely really worried these are permanent seeing as they haven't gone after 6 weeks of good moisturising!! I thought the AHA might help the wrinkles but it hasn't. Is this permanent damage from using 10% BP?

I've got to the point where I'm thinking of asking my GP for retin A to help with the wrinkles!!

Ironically (but very thankfully) the regimen has done a great job of combatting my acne. I get 1-2 spots max maybe once a month now. So seeing as my acne has improved significantly I doubt my GP will give me the retin A just for wrinkles.

Think I will still try and beg and plead for some retin A - it is supposed to be a wrinkle miracle worker.

Also might cut down to BP once a day to see if this helps the wrinkles - don't really want to as I'm worried about breaking out, but not sure what else to do??? Was thinking BP in the morning and retin A overnight if I can get hold of some.

Any suggestions please??? I'm 28 and didn't think I'd have to start worrying about finding a wrinkle cure just yet!

Many thanks

Those are no real wrinkles but they occur from the dryness of your skin by BP. I had those once in a while when , especially in winter and when my BPO was too strong. 10% is far too much , it dries out your skin nd leaves it leather - like on the surface. It will take quite a while for this to go away. I quit BPO after more than 21 years and switched to BHA and Spiro and my skin has less wrinkles that many others' my age. Be sure to put on a good sunscreen.

AHA is good, maybe you could switch to green cream at night and BPO for daytime, but you might be going through a purging phase when your acne gets worse.

I have the same problem with the smiling wrinkles and i am 23! I use 5% b.p. but as said above it is temporary.
