Confusion On Regimen

To give a brief summary of my experience, I'm getting on the regimen for the second time, the first time I was doing it wrong for a bunch of reasons. I've been on it for a month, and I only get a few zits every once in a while. When I first started, my face was red, but all the red marks that were on my skin went away, and my skin was perfect, except for the redness. When the redness went away, the red marks came back. I've always struggled with the marks on my face. I have already done research and have salicylic acid and a retin a wash that I have on the ready and am using them every once in a while. They are very slowly going away, but they're definitely still there. I've done a lot of research about acne treatments, which led me back to the regimen after I had previously ruled it out. MY QUESTION IS, why does increasing the benzoyl peroxide amount have a better effect on acne? Is it because it can kill bacteria deeper in the skin? Does using more have any effect on red marks? I just want to know before I use a ton of bp, so I don't waste it because I don't get many zits with the fairly generous amount that I currently use, so bacteria isn't the problem. The problem is the dagnabbit gosh darn red marks that have been on my cheeks for as long as I can remember.
