Hello...I'm new to the forums...but I am actually a little over 10 weeks into the regimen. I had mild to moderate acne that I could never get under control. My skin purged a lot...and I have broken out every week until this week. I am pretty much clear right now...and hopefully it will last! However...my skin is extremely dry. It is peeling like crazy! I use a handful of joba joba oil and moisturizer every night too! So at this point I am curious about purchasing the AHA. I have a ton of questions and concerns though:
Will my skin break out in the beginning of use? I am really worried about this...if it does break out will it be really bad?
If my skin is red from the AHA will it eventually go back to normal color? How long will it take?...just in general this regimen has made my skin reddish...and I really want to know this will subside...it's weird to have red skin and except for around my eyes so I look like raccoon lol...
I read posts on here about AHA working for people and then they developed some horrible allergy that made them break out and have patches and such. 0_o Please tell me this is unlikely...I don't want to risk destroying my skin.
Will the AHA truly take care of ridding me of all this dry, flakey, peeling skin? I like my skin clear...but the texture at the moment looks so gross.
If I use the AHA at night then I discontinue the joba joba oil?
How should I start off using the AHA?
Oh..and some other questions about the regimen I have....
I don't use a sunscreen at the moment...I use Dan's moisturizer. I am confused if I should use a sunscreen instead of a moisturizer during the day? Don't I need to moisturize in the day too? I am scared to try any moisturizers with sunscreen because Dan's moisturizer is literally the only one I ever could use in my life without breaking out.
When or can I even... cut back on the BP in the morning and just use it at night? When I do this should I continue the rest of the regimen in the morning?
SORRY that I had so many questions....probably many repeated from other posts...I just get very anxious when it comes to my skin. I can't think of any other questions at the moment...but I might think of a few more. I would greatly appreciate some help and guidance. I am hoping my skin will be clear and not so horribly dry in time for my sister's wedding at the end of October. Thank you!!!
I really recommend using AHA. Dan's AHA is amazing! Some people get a few spots from it, but don't worry about it because its only an initial reaction to the AHA most of the time. It helps a lot with red marks and the dry feeling.
When I started I mixed it in with my moisturizer. Half and half. Then added a few drops of jojoba oil. After a couple of day, go for a full face of AHA w/o moisturizer. Then back to the half and half method again. And the cycle repeats.
Both the AHA and jojoba really did make my skin feel normal again. It takes a while to get there, but you will get there.
Using the AHA, if you are going to be under the sun, you will need some kind of SPF. Whether it be a sun block, a moisturizer with sun block, make-up. Something. Just because it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.
I don't use Dan's moisturizer. I use cerave and then mix in a neutrogena moisturizer with SPF. It hasn't broken me out and it provides just enough spf to not burn me. You could try mixing spf and moisturizer or find another moisturizer with SPF. Do what works for you. Good luck!
I think a lot of people have had luck with Dan's AHA, but I personally have not. I think my skin is too sensitive for it? I worked it in really slowly, just about 1/3 AHA and 2/3 of the moisturiser every other night for about a week, and then ramping up to half and half every other night for another week, but eventually when I tried to use it for light spot treatment, it ended up burning my skin. As a result, it made my skin even more flaky and I had a number of cracks in the skin.
All this subsided as soon as I stopped using it and I don't think I will be using AHA again. Sometimes I use fresh lemon juice diluted with water (only a really small amount of the lemon juice) since it naturally has AHA. i just dip a cotton pad in the mix and then gently wipe it on my face. Some people leave that on overnight but that would dry my skin out, so I usually only leave it on for like 15 minutes and then wash my face with water and moisturising immediately after.
I think sunscreen is always a must! Have you tried Cetaphil products? The Cetaphil Dermacontrol moisturiser has SPF30 and also helps with oil control, if that's something you'd be interested in?
Thanks for the tips...I really want to hold onto the hope that if I try the AHA it will alleviate the dryness and peeling. My skin is seriously so dry right now that if I smile or open my mouth too much my face cracks all over and looks like a peeling mosaic. EW. I feel like this is the driest skin can possibly get. I am using a ton of moisturizer and joba joba oil...is this normal after two months of use to be this dry still? I keep pushing through...but I feel that if my skin is this dry I might want to stop this regimen.

Have you considered switching moisturisers? I don't like Dan's very much as I don't feel like it nourishes my skin as much as Cetaphil's moisturising lotion. I heard CeraVe is also a good brand?
For a while when my skin was "cracking" like that, I would just put jojoba oil directly on my face and massage it gently on my skin for about 2 minutes and then wash it off - there was a post about it somewhere in the forum but I don't remember what section it was under. Anyway, it helped because after massaging for a bit, some of the flakes would come off and it didn't irritate the rest of my skin since I was massaging really slowly and gently. It's a little gross cause it makes your skin feel crazy oily after, but I did it before bed and woke up feeling like my skin was on the mend!
Edit: I should mention that I had to quit the regimen about 4 months in because my skin developed sensitivity to BP but I think I'm one of the unlucky ones.

I'm nervous to try any other moisturizers because Dan's moisturizer is the only one in my life that hasn't broken my out. I might try the oil massage thing...but would that irritate my skin at all? I know the regimen is all about barely touching the skin...

I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin is. Personally I have pretty sensitive skin too, but I think as long as you clean your hands thoroughly before hand do it with a feather-light touch it'll be fine. Maybe just try it once for like 30s on just one patch of dry skin that's not as noticeable to get a feel for it?
I had the same problem. When I went to school I had the intent of not smiling and talking little because no matter how much moisturize and jojoba oil I put on, my skin still peeled horribly around my mouth. Since you're clear for the most part, I recommend using as little BP that will keep you clear. Reduce to once a day and go from there. I stopped using the Regime because of this problem and my acne came back the same as before I started the Regime. I'm back on it now using less BP. My acne is getting better, but my face is still pretty red so I'm with you in wondering if that will ever go away.
