Hey guys. FIrst post here but I've been on the forums for a few weeks now. Sorry in advance for the long post.
Background on me/my acne
Sensitive skin. Mild acne that is isolated mostly to my chin/jaw line area since i was 16 (almost 21 now). Was actually crystal clear until sophmore year of high school (i was lucky). No hormonal abnormalities according to blood tests and not looking to get on bc or spiro. No pcos as far as I know. So, I'm really hoping the regimen will work for me somewhat. Scheduled a derm visit for July 2nd.
I'm on day 20 of the regimen right now (so not very long i know i know). I only use the bp step on my chin/jaw line area. My chin is visibly more red than the rest of my face. very flaky/tight (WEIRDEST FEELING). It has been itchy ever since i increased the bp amount i was using 3 days ago; especially at night.... which makes sleeping super fun lolol....
What I do now:
Morning/Night
dkr cleanser (2 pumps; lather)
try to wash for 10 secs or less (barely touching face; very new to me! no more scrubbing!)
dkr bp - two pea size drops just for chin area (after face dries completely)
dkr moisturizer on the rest of face (no bp)
once chin bp dry apply dkr moisturizer to chin
I have jojoba oil coming in the mail in maybe 1 - 3 days. Do y'all think this will help my flakiness/redness/itch?
I'm very commited to sticking with this to be completely honest! I've realived that I've never given any one regimen enough time to do its job.
Any insight would be cool. Thanks.
Jojoba oil is fantastic! It helps a lot with the dryness. And when I started the regimen I also used to use the jojoba oil to exfoliate my skin to get rid of the flakes all over my face. The redness, tightness and flakes will all go away when your skin gets used to the BP and if you moisturize well.
Definitely stick to the regimen. Best decision I've ever made.
cosign w/nicmic62... The redness and dryness will die down with time and patience. If you're getting acne mostly on your jawline and chin, it's definitely hormonal acne. Some women outgrow it, while others don't. However, if you still to the regimen, you'll have beautiful, clear skin in no time... Good luck and keep us up to date on your progress...
I also think jojoba is amazing! I've realized recently that my skin reacts to dryness and that is a result of it breaking out. Could that be yours too? I have been just using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer with jojoba and that has cleared up my skin dramatically. I think that the derm visit will probably be greatly beneficial, but to be honest the derm's visit is what set off my skin in the first place. I would just be care and skeptical if anything when going to the derm and don't jump into anything too quickly. Who knows, maybe your skin will be clear with the regimen by July 2nd! Best of luck!
Haven't gotten the jojoba oil but I think the redness is getting a bit better. At least that's what my mom said when she saw me today. My acne has mostly subsided as far as i can tell. But hard to be sure since my skin's texture is out of whack and I'm trying not to squeeze or pick. red/purple marks are apparent but that's a given.
bactbb: my skin is always sort of dry but it hasn't been this dry/ flaky before! lol. I think my acne is probably just hormonally based. And I probably let it spread by not having a consistent regimen. Plus I used to just slather on makeup and forget about it.
Thanks for the support guys! I'll definitely incorporate the jojoba oil into the moisturizer once i get it. I don't plan on giving up yet. And, in an ideal world, I would love to be able to cancel that derm appointment.... But we'll see.

Day 24
Supposed to get the jojoba oil this afternoon. So I'll incorporate a few drops into my moisturizer tonight. Hoping that solves a lot of problems for me!
Last night was bad. My chin was so itchy! I kept waking up. I realized that my skin is begging for moisture and I probably put on too much bp. No pimples on the sides of my chin. I feel like the front middle of my chin is inflamed though. I'm not sure if it's just overall swelling or acne cysts! I'm trying not to look too closely or touch. I've forgotten how a normal chin is supposed to feel I think lol!
This morning I scaled down the bp amount I applied to my chin. The tightness seems to have subsided as a result. But still a bit itchy/flaky. Redness of my chin is healing and fading a bit but still apparent.
As a whole, I'm feeling kind of ugly today... I know boohoo me. Thankfully don't have to go anywhere today.
I'm on my period right now and could use a brow wax so that could be contributing to my feelings.
But, I'm going to push forward and keep with the regimen. I'm supposed to go to a wedding on July 6th so I'm hoping my skin will be improved by then....
If anyone is reading this.... Thanks for the support.
<3 !!
Sidenote: I'm watching tv and seeing all these people with clear skin is killing me.... ughhhhhhhh... I'm such a downer today...
Day 25: my skin is so much more hydrated! I put about 8 drops of jojoba in my moisturizer last night. My chin is much less tight and the redness has reduced greatly. It did get itchy last night though. But I'm assuming it's because I have so much dead skin that is coming off. Iced it and was able to sleep pretty well. Overall, very happy with jojoba oil so far.
Still can't tell if I have any cysts on my chin or if that's how my chin is supposed to feel. lol. It's amazing how one simple product can make you feel a lot better
Have a good day everyone!
Day 27:
Weird development. The dryness of my skin is a lot better due to the jojoba oil. And it hasn't broken me out in areas where I don't break out, which is a plus. skin is no longer tight.
However, my chin has been itching a lot (only place where i put bp). Also, my chin is still red. I would like to think it's not an allergic reaction. I have very sensitive skin and I think I'm still getting used to bp. I really don't wan to stop bp. But I am having trouble sleeping due to the itch....
Any one else have itching this far into the regimen?
I am 50 days in and YES the itching is an unfortunate part of this process. I find that moisturizing helps and when it gets really ba, i'll gently wash teh back of my hand and glide it across my skin (so as not to scratch or rub too hard). This far in the itching is ever so often versus round the clock. The redness will also go away
Not going to bother with what day it is.
My chin is still red, irritated, and itchy. Didn't get much sleep last night so that probably didn't help. Don't think I have any new deep pimples. Can't really tell though. I think my chin is a bit swollen.
Just did the regimen.
Anyways, going to take a nap now.
So, I've been reading up on bp allergic reactions (I've used bp as a spot treatment without issues before). Since I am only using bp on my chin area I am not using two fingers of Dan's bp. I would say that I use 1/3 - 1/2 finger's length of bp for just my chin (I have a small face). My skin has been very itchy and red in just the bp area with some itching in surrounding areas (under my chin - no redness there), which I assume is because bp may have spread to there.
Not sure what to do? I don't think I have any scabbing, cracking or crusting but the skin on my chin is definitely more rough and dry. And red as I've said before. I think I did ramp up the bp a bit too quickly.
It was very itchy yesterday (like non-stop) but the itching subsided today 2 hours after application.
Is this just the "hardening effect"? Should I use less bp?
Almost 4 weeks in! Also, the bp has reduced my acne so I don't want to stop using it. I think I might be clear if my chin wasn't red.
After itching last night, I decided to make an emergency derm visit. I'm so blessed that I was able to see my derm today (someone canceled right before I called!). I feel very grateful.
Anyways, I have a huge rash on my chin. I was tested for a pure benzoyl peroxide allergy.... And it turns out that I AM THE 1 - 3 %. Awesome, right.... Sensitive skin, acne, allergy to acne medication (wtf)...
But, thankfully, my derm prescribed me cortisone gel to use tonight and my rash should be gone in 2 days or so. Then I will begin using clindamycin to treat my acne.
So, I'm very hopeful now that I will get my mild acne under control.
I just want to say that if you have constant itching, severe redness/brownness and major swelling from bp that IT IS NOT NORMAL. A good number of the people with sensitive skin have acne and in turn some of those people will be allergic to a lot of things. Don't make yourself suffer. Get a professional opinion at some point. You can't always beat acne on your own! (and you shouldn't have to)
Even though I can't do the regimen I have used all of Dan's advice and am now using a gentle cleanser (cetaphil sensitive skin cleanser) and a non-medicated moisturizer (neutrogena oil-free; olay complete sensitive spf). Before I was being way too harsh and scrubbing. Not being consistent with moisturizer, etc. And, frankly, using stuff that made me break out. Since using the regimen I haven't had one pimple on my forehead (just from dan's cleanser and moisturizer). My entire face (except for chin rash; some small nose blackheads) has been clear. I will continue to only cleanse every 12 hours. And wash for 10 sec or less, etc. Trying to reduce my stress as well.

All acne is hormonal, regardless of the area. There are no "special types" of acne, it all comes from the same place. Acne is a hormonal disease that most people outgrow. The ones that don't outgrow it (persistent adult acne) represent a very small minority.
True, but the minority is still way too many people and seems to be growing.
Honestly, a lot of people probably think that because of this website. Because there are tons of adults here on Acne.org having severe acne issues it gives the illusion that it's an "epidemic". When in reality it's truthfully not.
I mean adult acne is definitely more common these days rather than 50 years ago but it's still not a global crisis. How many people do you see in your every day life past the age of say 25 with acne? hardly any or few and far between is the answer.
Acne is predominately a disease of teenagers just as Parkinson's Disease is predominately a disease of the elderly - but there are exceptions but these cases are still in the minority category.

Definitely agree.
Hey guys.
Started the clindamycin solution on wednesday night. Don't think I haven't had any deep pimples since then but new ones have popped up that are unlike the acne I usually get. But I see this as a good sign. I think my skin is improving from the post-bp breakout.
Also I threw in a mild bha product. This stuff is great. Honeymark acne cream. It's 2% sal acid. Has a bunch of great natural products mixed in.
I'll gently cleanse my face. Then air dry for 10 mins. Dab on clindamycin with a cotton ball. Wait 20 mins. Apply dan's moisturizer to the rest of my face (not the chin) while I wait. Then apply the acne cream lightly over my chin after the clindamycin. Wait 15 mins for that to sink it. Then apply a light amount of dan's moisturizer over my chin.
Seems to be working well.
