2 Months On The Regimen And My Acne Is Worse?

Hi All,

I've read through some of the forums but this is my first post and I have a few questions I'm hoping somebody will be able to answer.

I'm currently a few days over 2 months into the regimen. I started with mild/moderate acne and wIthin the first week, my skin was clearer than it had been in 3 years, almost completely clear. That didn't last long and I've been breaking out ever since. I'm currently no better than when I started, if not worse. Loosing hope unfortunately.

Becasue of time/appearance, I have only been able to do Dan's regimen once per day. Heres what I do:

Night:

-Wash with DKR's cleanser

-Apply DKR's BP

-Apply DKR's Moisturizer (1 full pump, maybe a little more) with 5-6 drops of Jojoba oil OR some nights moisturizer mixed with DKR's AHA+ or sometimes the AHA+ by itself.

Morning:

-Wash with DKR's cleanser

-Apply DKR's Moisturizer (just enough to cover my face) (no jojoba oil because of the shine)

-spot treat with neutrogena concealer (trying to hide some of the redness as a guy)

After two months, I still have flaking so I don't always use a full fingers length of BP. Should I be? And should I use AHA+ by itself or mixed with the moisturizer (and how often)?

I guess what I'm asking in general is: doing the Regimen once per day, should I expect resutls or give up? With only mild acne when I started, I hoped to be farther along at this 2 month mark.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think you should try doing the regimen twice a day, then once you are completely clear, you can work on cutting back on the BP. The reason why the regimen has worked for a lot of people is because they didn't stray from Dan's original steps.

As for the AHA, it is recommended to use it in place of the moisturizer 2 to 3 times a week. I personally do half moisturizer and half AHA every night just because I really like my skin to feel hydrated.

Agree with Nicmic62. Try doing the regimen twice per day. I know you said that you still have flaky skin, but you've got to look past that and get to the stage where your skin is accustomed to the BP. Try doing the regimen twice a day but with only one pump of BP for a couple of weeks. Then increase the night time application to 2 pumps for a week or two and then two pumps twice a day. The key to getting completely clear is all in the amount of BP you use. Only when you are completely clear should you start to experiment and try reducing the amount of BP usage.

As for the AHA, you need to be a little careful as there is an adjustment period. You may find that your skin gets a little irritated when you start to ramp up the BP, so keep mixing it with moisturiser, but again you can start to increase the AHA and decrease the moisturiser until you are 100% AHA a few nights a week.

Its such a shame that you tried the 'once a day BP' method for a couple of months because I feel if you had followed the regimen exactly as Dan recommends, you would probably be further along by now, especially since you have mild acne. But never mind, at least you have allowed your face to become accustomed to BP nice and slowly.

Good luck and let us all know how you get on. :)

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

I'll see what I can do but I honestly just don't have the time needed for all the steps in the morning before I start the day. Also, after I apply BP & moisturizer my face looks horrible. With summer coming up, I'll be sweating and would prefer not to have white stuff dripping off my face. Acne is a curse! Nonetheless, I'll see what I can do.

Could I spot treat with BP in the morning? In other words, does BP help the acne that is already there or just help prevent new breakouts?

Thanks.

Just do the regimen the correct way. There is no way anyone can promise it will help you if you're just spot treating or changing steps.

It doesn't take THAT long in the morning. Come on. Just get up 15 minutes earlier if you need to.

John thats the thing with the regimen, if you want it to work you have to do it properly. You can't say you've been following the regimen for two months and its made your acne worse (as your title suggests) because you've haven't been following the regimen, only part of it.

I think all regimen followers get it when you say it takes too much time and makes your face worse. Almost everyone has to work, go to school etc and in the first few months its hard. I had to get my head around going to work with a bright red face, and unable to wear makeup because my skin was so dry and flaky. This was a huge deal with me as I had to see clients in interviews each day, but I had my mind set that the first couple of months were going to be tough and I was just going to have to deal with it. And I was rewarded within a couple of months because my skin was clear, no longer red or dry and suddenly I didn't even need to wear makeup, so it was worth it in the end.

So you've got to decide if you're going to dedicate yourself to the regimen, and accept that it takes a bit of time and effort at first. (And as the above poster says, just get up 15 mins earlier) If the answer is no, then the half hearted regimen you're following isnt going to give you the best results (as you've already discovered).
