Since I was 11 years old, I have had bad acne. When I was 13 I was introduced to something called Benzyl Peroxide, and guess what, it worked absolute wonders on my skin. About 4 months into using it, I had the best facial skin of my life, and you can really tell the difference the way people talk to you.

What do I mean by that? I mean I wasnt getting remarks on being spotty, being a sugar-puff face, and my general internal and external shape was vastly improved. I started getting girlfriends and I enjoyed social life, something I had never done because of my face (that is why I am actually a gaming nerd).

About a year of this happiness, spots started to come back. I got complacent and stopped using Benzyl Peroxide (BP), and I knew I had to start using it again. This time however, I absolutely lathered it on my face. I mean, almost half a tube a go. Within two days, my face was absolutely burning and it was destroyed. It was red, irritable, very oily, and just looks unhealthy and damaged.

To this day, 11 years later (I am now 23), I STILL have the terrible skin. It is not the acne I am concerned about anymore, its the other hell that I have been experience most of my life. The thing is, my skin condition is so random. It is always red and unhealthy yes, but sometimes it can be devastatingly bad compared to other days, and I really dont know what to do anymore.

My social life is ruined. I have not had a girlfriend (or even sex!) for the last three years. I can no longer connect with anybody, because in my mind I say to myself please go away, I dont want you to see me. My confidence, social skills, motivation and quality of life is being destroyed because of my face, and I have had enough. I have kept it to myself for all these years, just keeping it inside and trying to individually sort it out (I am a very proud person of my independence), and I cannot go on anymore.

I need answers, I need a solution. I have wasted literally thousands of pounds on products, and i just cant seem to find anything to cure my issue, and this is the difficult part, I have no idea what to do. I am lost.

I have been to three Dermalogica dermatologists. All three mention different opinions. The first said I have congested, irritated skin, the second said I had sensitive skin, and the third said I had congested, dehydrated skin.

Please look at my pictures on my blog and help me! I challenge anyone to tell me what I have. I beg you.

P.s. sorry I didn't know where else to post. I am an old regimen user, around the time the website was new.

Well I noticed you still have some active acne and small minor scars. But I think whats really making your skin look bad overall are the prominent red marks. They make your skin texture look bad and bumpy.

For some people long-term BP use without sufficient moisturization and sunscreen will damage skin and impede healing, making it red, irritated, and cause red marks to linger. Maybe thats what happened in your case. If your active acne is under control you should look into ways to moisturize your skin and reverse the damage. You could put some Vit E Oil, Jojoba Oil etc. on your face at night to help it heal. Take note some of these oils may cause you to breakout so make sure you control your active acne first.

I cosign with arcadia92... You may be experiencing irritation from under moisturizing... Remember that BP has some harsh side effects, dryness, redness, and irritation being some of them... My suggestion is to up your moisturizing... It may be that the one you are currently using isn't sufficient enough to combat the dryness and irritation you are experiencing... What type of moisturizer do you use? What are you using to prevent acne? If you are looking for suggestions, I would say purchase Dan's or Cetaphil moisturizers... They are the only two that work to combat dryness and irritation for me, without breaking me out... Also, invest in a good SPF... Personally, Oil or Olay Sensitive Skin and Neutrogena Dry Block are the best for acne prone, sensitive skin... Good luck and let us know how everything is coming along... :)

Thanks for the reply.

I have not used BP in about 5 years. I no longer use anything for my acne. My current "regimen" is really random as I have not found anything, but I have 1000 worth of Dermalogica products and Jojoba oil.

I use Dermalogica Ultra-Calming Cleanser, then Dermalogica Ultra-Calming Soothing Spray, then Dermalogica Skin Soothing Cream and sometimes Active Moist with Jojoba oil.

Absolutely nothing offsets my irritation. Sometimes I use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant too.

Perhaps it could be the actual products you are using aren't suitable for your skin... It sounds like you may suffer from dry skin, which may be the reason you are experiencing irritation from the treatments you use... Try just washing your skin with a mild cream cleanser and moisturizer and see how your skin reacts... Again, I would suggest Cetaphil for Sensitive skin... Avoid using an exfoliator, toner etc for the time being, until you see how your skin reacts... A good rule of thumb is to wait 10 to 12 hours between cleansing and moisturizing, barely touch your skin when washing and moisturizing, and be as gentle as possible... If you are still experiencing irritation, it may be time to see a dermatological specialist... Good luck and let us know how it's turns out... :) We're always here for support.. .:)
