I broke out in a rash after switching to a new moisturzier a couple of days ago I was thinking of skipping BP for a couple of days until the rash gets better. If I do cut out the BP for a few days is it okay to start back up at the full amount once the rash has gone away.
P.S. I am 100% sure the rash was caused by the moisturizer because I have been on the regimen for 6 weeks and had no problems other than the common dryness and flaking (that is why I tried switching moisturizers).

going off bp was one of the best things ive done in my life. 60% of my redness went away. no more painful red burning skin and no chance of getting cancer. bp causes cancer and isnt even sold in the uk. use primrose oil, topical probiotics, and zinc to get rid of ur acne with little to no side effects.

Thanks for the suggestions I used zinc for a bit and had no success but I kind of slacked off and probably didn't give it long enough to work. I'll definitely give it another go.

If you do reintroduce BP, just try a little bit first and then work your way up to the full amount. If the rash returns, you will probably need to switch out BP with something else like salicylic acid, retinoids or sulfur.
Just out of curiosity: have you ever had atopic dermatitis or any other skin condition that made you generally sensitive?

it says on your profile that bp gave you discoloration and now your endorsing this girl to take it????

I do get seasonal eczema (during the summer) on my hands and feet, but never anywhere else.

I should probably update my about me on it and be more specific, but what I did was excessively apply 10% BP and an alcoholic toner at the same time to my chin and kept doing it despite the bad redness and irritation for a few days. At the time I was (ignorantly) following some advice from a magazine and thought that the redness meant it was working. Obviously I knew nothing about skin care back then and sometimes I wish I could take it back -- but then again I wouldn't know about skin care as I do know and probably wouldn't be on these forums! At least I know I can just apply topical prescription retinoids, and I've been saving up some money for an IPL Photofacial to get rid of the discoloration permanently.

All right, just making sure. BP is not very nice to skin conditions with barrier dysfunction. Be careful when you're applying BP in the summer as your eczema may "mysteriously" flare!

As for BP not being available in the UK, I have no idea where you have got that from?!

I think you should maybe just go back to your original moisturiser and continue as you were with the BP?
I recently tried to change moisturiser from the Acne.org to Cerave moisturising cream and I broke out because of it. I am really dry and flakey but I think I will just continue with the acne.org moisturiser untill im clear and then incorporate some of Dan's AHA+.

That's probably what I am going to do. I just skipped BP last night and this morning but will probably use a little tonight since the rash has gotten better. I really do like the regimen my face has improved a lot despite this little setback.
Thanks!
I have had the same experience, I think the key is to not change any products yet even though its hard looking like grated cheese all day.
I have been using Dan's regimen for over 3 weeks now and my brake-outs seem to be getting less and less and the spots seem to be smaller and last half as long as before. Hopefully i'll be able to start treating the red marks and flakeyness soon.
Have you used the jojoba oil yet? Its supposed to help with the flakes but some people have said it clog's their pores so Im reluctant to try it...Can't win

In simple terms: it doesn't start cancer - but when a tumor forms it'll make it bigger.

BP has been linked to cancer for a number of years and many research journal entries state "benzoyl peroxide is a free radical-generating skin tumor promoting agent." Performing a word search of the words "benzoyl peroxide cancer" in PubMed in the National Library of Medicine produces 102 articles from medical publications dealing with research aspects of BP and cancer. About two-thirds of the research supports linkage between BP and skin cancer.
"In 1995 the FDA changed benzoyl peroxide from a Category I (safe) to a Category III (safety is uncertain) ingredient and stated this action (56 FR 37622) was based on new information that raised a safety concern regarding benzoyl peroxide as a tumor promoter in mice" Additionally the FDA charged manufacturers with the responsibility of providing this information to consumers so they could make educated decisions. Many manufacturers and product marketers have not provided this information so consumers can be advised of the potential dangers.

I'm glad the regimen is working for you so far. I would give the jojoba oil a try it might end up helping a lot. I would just start off by adding a couple of drops (maybe 3 to 5) to your moisturizer and see how your skin reacts then you can increase the amount. Ugh I just can wait until my skin is smooth and clear. I guess we just have to be patient and positive.

Tell me about it. I have been on the regimen for 6 weeks and it feels more like 6 months.
Let's take a look at the BP studies:
BP is a "tumor promoter" in mice (if that is the case and the study quality is good). Not humans. While mice share some similarities in genetics and the skin, mice does not equal humans.
Several of the BP-"tumor-promoting"/"free radical damage" studies on PubMed have no abstracts or free full texts, so I can't comment on the study quality. From the limited information I have access to, there seems to be just one study that has actually tested BP on human subjects in abstract. It concluded that BP does not cause malignant melanoma. This is a short abstract, so once again I can't really comment on the study quality.
In 2010 the FDA made a final ruling on BP.
"We, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), are issuing this final rule to include benzoyl peroxide as a generally recognized as safe and effective [Emphasis added] (GRASE) active ingredient in over-the-counter (OTC) topical acne drug products. In addition, this final rule includes new warnings and directions required for OTC acne drug products containing benzoyl peroxide. We are also revising labeling for OTC topical acne drug products containing resorcinol, resorcinol monoacetate, salicylic acid and/or sulfur to meet OTC drug labeling content and format requirements in a certain FDA regulation. This final rule is part of our ongoing review of OTC drug products and represents our conclusions on benzoyl peroxide in OTC acne drug products."
Genotoxicity: "Even though some of the in vitro studies suggest that benzoyl peroxide may be a weak mutagen, the negative studies along with the overall genotoxicity profile do not warrant concluding that benzoyl peroxide is a genotoxic agent."
Tumor-Promotion: ". . . However, a tumor promoter is not a carcinogen and exposure to a tumor promoter alone will not cause cancer. . . . We continue to believe that benzoyl peroxide is a tumor promoter in animals when combined with a chemical tumor initiator. . . . None of the studies clearly associate the use of benzoyl peroxide with the development of skin cancer in humans. The largest of these studies evaluated 870 subjects who developed skin cancer and 1,250 control subjects who did not develop skin cancer (matched for age, sex, and geographic location) (Ref. 4). The study authors concluded that the past history of acne was the second strongest correlation to the development of basal cell carcinoma, with a family history of cancer being the strongest correlation. Although the authors suggested that there may be a relationship between benzoyl peroxide use and skin cancer, data about subject use of acne treatments was not collected (e.g., whether subjects had used benzoyl peroxide). We are not aware of any relevant epidemiological studies published since 1991. Therefore, we do not have any epidemiological evidence demonstrating that benzoyl peroxide is a carcinogen in humans."
As BP is a peeling and exfoliative agent, improper use of SPF or not using photoprotection at all could indirectly contribute to skin cancer. But the same thing goes with any other exfoliative, skin thinning agent. Ultraviolet radiation is still the biggest cause of skin cancer, so use photoprotection properly!

Megadosing on supplemental Vitamin D isn't the most dangerous thing you could do in the world, but people still think today that there is no harm in overdosing. Even with sunscreen usage you still won't have a problem obtaining Vitamin D in the sun, and there are plenty of (fortified) food sources.
bp causes cancer and isnt even sold in the uk.
Wrong and wrong.
smh
Ditto. Look at the science that Michelle Reece has provided. All you did is link to blogs.
Just skip it for a day or 2 (or at least significantly reduce the amount). Then reintroduce it until you're back at the full amount, you'll know what works best for you. As for the flaking: did you have a look at the "problems with dryness or flaking" topic? If you need additional moisturizing, you could add jojoba oil to your moisturizer, and/or try glycerin (mix with water, put in a spray bottle and use throughout the day). Unfortunately, we do get conspiracy theorists in here every now and then, but please don't let them steer you away from something that works for you. Don't take my word for it, do the research yourself if you want to and you'll find out. Good luck!

Thanks a lot I skipped it for a day and the rash is already a lot better. I'll probably skip it for another day just to be safe. As for the whole BP/ cancer thing I have done the research and I like the regimen I have seen really good results and for sure am going to continue.

Good! I'm glad to see you've done your research, more people should. I hope the rash will be gone tomorrow
