Quitting The Regimen

I've been on the regimen for a little over a year now and for the past few months, I've been on the fence about quitting the regimen. So here's my story:

In high school, I didn't have acne -- well, I had a white head here and there but it was very rare I had a painful pimple. I started getting acne around my sophomore year of college. To this day I'm still confused on what exactly cause the sudden breakout because I didn't wear foundation, my diet didn't change, and my school work or work was never overwhelming. But back to the story. The first place I broke out was on my right cheek then it spread to my left cheek, my chin, jawline. So in a matter of a month or so, I went from completely clear to moderate acne. In my family, no one really has bad skin so of course they commented on the state of my skin (they would give advice out of care, but it always hurted me to hear how bad my skin was from them...) Fast forward to my junior year and I was so desperate for a solution! I found acne.org from a YouTube guru and decided to go through with it because by that point, I had tried switching face wash, switching shampoo, my diet, and of course, I stop wearing makeup because 1) I got too depress to look at myself in the mirror that I didn't want to even put makeup on, and 2) my mom and sisters would tell me I was agitating my skin with it and I wanted to prove to them that it wasn't just the makeup that was causing my acne. I swear I followed that regimen to a freaking T and it worked! By the third month, I was pretty much clear (minus some acne scars)! And thank goodness because it was my sister's wedding and I was the maid of honor. I will admit, I got lazy with my routine soon after so of course, some acne came back. But here's the thing, even though I went back to the regimen, I didn't clear up again. I kept getting repeating cystic acne in the same place even though I didn't pop or touch any of them. And it's been that way for the last half a year or so. Recently, I started drinking a cup of tomato smoothie, which consists of tomato, carrot, lemon juice, cucumber, and of course water, twice a day. (It sounds nasty, but it just tastes like lemonade -- I add apple juice on days I add too much tomato.) I also changed my shampoo from Pantene to L'oreal sulfate-free shampoo because I mainly broke out where my hair would touch (hairline, sideburns, and tops of my jaw). Right after I did all of this, my acne decreased and on a side note, I did this right before my period and I usually break out quite a bit before but not this month! I also changed my moisturizer from Murad's vitamin C face lotion (please do not say it was because of this because I've always used this moisturizer and it didn't cause me any problems before) to Origin's super mushroom face lotion and I started working out again. Anyways, I decided to stop the regimen because I did not see any improvement anymore, my eyes became really sensitive to the BP (every time I applied BP to my face, it stung the crap out of my eyes even though I was super careful not to apply it near my eyes and I would wash my hands right after applying it), my skin never went back to its original texture -- it's still a weird scaly, peeling, itchy texture, plus waiting an extra half an hour for the regimen BEFORE even getting ready just wasn't doing it for me anymore.

On the other hand though, the BP did wonders for my back acne situation and still does, so despite all I've said, I will continue using the BP for my back.

Anyways, I guess if anyone is interested, I'll keep up this log? Wish me luck!

Wow. Then I'm glad I kept the receipt! Thanks! :)

I actually just checked the ingredients from the box the moisturizer came in and there is no myristyl Myristate, steric acid, or cetyl acid formulated in.

I might've typed the wrong name for the moisturizer, but it's this one: http://www.cosdna.com/eng/cosmetic_437a57262.html

Interesting website. What moisturizer would you recommend with good ingredients. I use Neutrogenia for sensitive skin and even though it says its non comodogenic, its ingredients says otherwise

I dunno, thats a great question. I like Kavi's moisturizers. They are expensive, but very simple and effective. Most of the cheap drug store moisturizers break me out. A lot of people will recommend Cerave or Cetaphil, both those contain ceteral alcohol + ceteareth 20 which is supposed to clog pores, and i have never had luck with those two. The less weird ingredients or chemicals the better. My main moisturizer is just plain hyuralonic acid.

What brands do you use - there are several. Do they clog pores or is it skin specific?
