So, I've been using the regimen for 5 weeks. My skin is starting to clear a bit, which is great, but I've been having problems with EXTREME dryness.
I can hardly move my face or smile, it's so tight and uncomfortable. The flakiness is so annoying, almost as bad as the acne itself. My entire face is flaky, but especially bad around my mouth, chin, jaw, and temples. The parts that aren't so flaky look scaly.
It isn't getting better, no matter what I do. I was at the full amount of bp but cut back to see if it would help, no difference. I load on moisturizer and jojoba oil at night - no really, til it's practically dripping - and use jojoba with moisturizer during the day. I tried AHA but I think I must be allergic to it b/c it makes my skin red and burning for a few days after use. I massage jojoba into my skin then rinse it off before applying bp, and I've gone a few days with no bp and just moisturizer/jojoba.
I've tried gently exfoliating... using my fingers, baking soda, or a baby toothbrush, but the flakes just go away and then come back in a few hours.
It's so frustrating. I don't want to leave the house looking like a lizard Any advice is much appreciated.
Hi there! I was about to post the same thing. We both have the same situation right now. Today is my 5th week as well. I dont have pimples anymore but have UNBELIEVABLY DRY skin.
I checked out some thread here to look for opinions and I found out a suggestion to get rid of the dryness and flakiness.
Read her thread..

Her thread is about putting jojoba oil BEFORE doing the regimen. (10-12 drops) and massage it all over the face to get rid of the flakes and dryness of the skin.
Hope this works for both of us!
My regimen:
Morning and Night
DK Cleanser - 2pumps
DK BP - 2pumps
DK Moisturizer with Jojoba Oil - 2pumps and 8 drops of oil
I agree with the post above me, about that thred, but just pour the oil into your hand, no need to measure.
Try using BP only at night see if that helps, reduce the amount you use, overloading your face with BP wont make it more effective than evenly covering your face with BP.
Ensure you get the ration of moisturizer to jojoba oil right, too much jojoba and you cancle out the effectiveness of the moisturizer, some people on here might reply and say that's crap, but it really isn't, this is in my experience.
Use a bit more power in the shower with your fingers, get the balance between actually cleaning the dead skin cells off your skin and avoiding irritation.
Before the jojoba trick, try having a lukewarm bath, not too hot, it really dries your face out, perfect for the jojoba oil trick to remove those flakes!
do the jojoba trick when there is no BP on your face, or anything else on your face for that matter, it really reduces the effectiveness IMO.
Use cold water to wash your skin, this has worked to calm my skin sometimes, however you might want to use hot water for a bit to get the BP off.
Try different supplements like zinc or a multi vitimian, you never know, try omega 3 and 6, evening primrose oil (capsules.)
Just as many suggestions as I can think off from the top of my head, good luck!
Hi Jarlo, sorry to hear that you're struggling with dry skin. The fifth week mark is a horrible time because you start questioning whether you are just replacing acne with lizard skin. I was exactly the same in the early stages of the regimen.....extremely dry, flaky skin that was still sensitive and stingy. It was starting to become clear of acne but it looked just as bad as when i had a faceful of acne.
Please believe me when I say that this period does pass. If you are consistant, and don't start adding in additional products or steps, your skin will start getting used to the BP and it will become less dry and flaky - unfortunately it just takes time and patience. I think that you should give the AHA+ another go. When I introduced it into the regimen, it was around week 5 and after 2 weeks of using it I experienced a huge difference to the dryness of my skin. It started getting a lot smoother and had a better appearance because it was less dehydrated. BUT like you, when i first started using AHA+ my skin went bright red and in the morning when I woke up my skin was red in all the crease marks on my face (around my mouth, nose etc). But again I persevered and a few days later I put on AHA+ again (mixed in with dans moisturiser) and the same redness occured. But I kept applying it every 3 days and within two weeks it was like my skin belonged to someone else, there was such a sudden improvement. Dont get me wrong though, it stung and burned each time I applied it but I kept at it. Even now 9 months later, it still stings and burns when I apply AHA+ to my face, but I've grown to love the sensation. I no longer get red from it though, just smooth glowing skin.
So in summary, be patient, be consistant and dont be afraid of AHA+. Yes, its going to make your face red and irritated looking (yet again) but if you keep at it, you will get results. Just be careful not to be mucking around with Dan's regimen instructions. I kept to his regimen exactly as her prescribed for the first 9 weeks and I got completely clear (as in completely clear) in that time. Only after I was completely clear did I start altering his regimen (by reducing the BP applications). Oh and by 'mucking about' with his regimen, I mean trying to exfoliate etc. I was an exfoliating queen before I started Dan's regimen, and it killed me not to do it, but I made a deal with myself when I started this regimen that I was going to follow it exactly, no matter how tempted I was to add additional steps. I figured that I would give it 3 months, and if it didnt work, at least I would know I gave it my best shot and it didnt not work because I had added anything to it. But it DID work for me, and its changed my life.
Hang in there....and let us know how you get on.
Man, I am right there with ya. All of you guys with dry flaky skin, I hear you!!! I've been on the regimen for 2 months now, and it's really great, I can't say enough about Dan's products but boy, my skin flakes really, really bad. Still! Plus it gets really scaly. The texture of it is only good about 1 hr after I moisturize it. These side effects are supposed to go away over time, and if they don't, the best piece of advice I can give anyone is, if you can't fix 'em with moisturizer, you ain't using enough moisturizer... Or you have the wrong one. I'm at the point where I have to carry jojoba oil with me everywhere I go just to make my skin appear less dry. I put a crap ton of moisturizer on, trying to use every scrap because this stuff costs money and I don't want to waste any. I'm not complaining too much though, this regimen rocks!
Hi,
I'm 4 weeks into the regimen and I also have dry and flaky skin. It's also raw when the moisturizer is completely absorbed but it works and my acne is almost gone.
When I notice that my skin is very dry I put less BP on my face and moisturize it with jojoba oil. That works ok but I'm not completely satisfied.
Since 2 days I've been using AHA+ as a moisturizer at night and it stings at first but when I wake up I have no dry skin and my skin looks good and smooth. I was so happy. So if you experience dry skin I can recommend AHA+. Make sure to try it first one night on your arm or something to check if it's ok. Don't put too much at first. i didn't had red or swollen skin after AHA but I've read that some people had so be carefull.

I can't fix my dry skin. I wake up with a flaky beard every morning. I also get flakes when I eat. I use the strongest cetaphil moisturizer on the market along with jojoba oil. I use Aha+ every 3 days. Nothing changes. When I use BP only once a day, it doesn't stop my acne.
Even massaging the jojobo oil over my skin won't help. When I'm in the shower and when I get out of it my skin is still covered in whiteness.
I don't think there is any fixing this.
This is my 5th week using the regimen. My skin is extremely dry... feels rough and very itchy. I have noticed an increase in the pimples o would normally have... abs especially around my cheeks.
my face stings like mad... I introduced AHA on week 5 and I mix half half with moisturizer... this stings like burning...am holding on to the regimen though its so tough and uncomfortable... I love my make up and now it only sits on top of my flaky skin... what can I do to make this situation better... I doubt enjoying the ny benefits as yet...
how long should I wait to see some good results?
catherine.
