Hi Kat
I think what you describe on the face structure is right. Bumpy and rough. Sometimes no pimples, but the surface is not smooth, unlike normal acne free people. I dont understand why is it like this. Does BP cause roughness to the skin or too much / too frequent use of BP does not allow the skin have the time to restructure itself in a normal way?
I think it would be great for you to post pictures on proper way of cleaning the face.
Thanks so much, Kat!
Hey All BP does is clear out the pores, kill bacteria, and peel the skin to encourage new skin cell growth. What you're experiencing is just a buildup of dead, dry skin on the top..which is caused by dry skin! By exfoliating more (either washing a little rougher or using more jojoba oil), your skin will begin to become smoother. Give it about a week.
If you've been on the regimen for a few months, remember that the roughness is MONTHS worth of caked on dry skin...it'll take a couple of days to fully scrub it off. By washing rougher, your skin will be a lot smoother in no time!
I agree with you that dryness is better than acne. But does your face look very unnatural when on dan regime even though your face is clear. Is not smooth. Surface is rough & bumpy
No my face is pretty smooth now. Mostly just a few red marks left now. Also i've noticed my face seems shinier. Or maybe my face was always this shiny because like i said in my other post I didn't use to scrutinize my face this much before.
thanx for sharing these info......btw w@ does "DKR" Benzoyl peroxide mean ?
DKR stands for Dan Kern, aka the creator of this site and the line of acne.org products to clear acne. I'm referring to the Treatment BP that is sold on this site in the store.
Great break down! Respect!
Thanks so much 🙂
Hi there Kat
I LOVE this post! Thanks so much Very helpful and informative. I have just been wondering what this "Aleve" medication is that you mention a few times is? It works to prevent pre-menstrual breakouts is what I gathered, but could you explain it more to me?
Thanks

Aleve is an over-the-counter medication you can get at virtually any store. Walmart, grocery stores, drugstores all sell Aleve. A lot of people, on these forums and off, have said that the anti-inflammatory effects of Aleve help to settle hormonal flare ups before you get your period. This is a quick snippet I took from an online source:
...Aleve is an over the counter medication that has been found to alleviate premenstrual acne and menstrual acne in many women because of the anti-inflammatory effect that it has on a person's entire system. However, Aleve (which contains Naproxen) is an NSAID medication, which means that it is not safe for everyone to take. (For instance, people who are allergic to aspirin should not take Aleve.)
It's definitely worth a try. Before I began having health issues, I would get at least one large cystic pimple before my period every month. Now I don't deal with that anymore, but when I did the Aleve helped to prevent that one pimple from forming.
Hey kat! really a good post!
I've been reason a lot through these forums a lot and I think you give one of the best advices in here
I've been using a cleanser(clean & clear) and a kaiser bp(10%).. I know now that's using 10% was bad by reading some posts in here.
anyways I think I have severe acne and lots of PIH... After a week of reading through these forums I decided to try out the regimen..
Questions:
I think by now my skin is familiar with bp, so do I start applying the full pumps of dans bp?
Do I also need to order the AHA+ right now or do I need to wait until my skin is adjusted to the regimen??
I just want to get clear then deal with the PIH later on..
Your post really gave me some hope in clearing acne!!
Thanks
Hi!
I think the regimen will work very well for you, like it has for a lot of other people and myself. I personally would start exactly as Dan suggests with BP application. It's better to start slow, than to go head on and experience problems that may occur. Also, Dan suggests that you wait a few months before you add the AHA+ into the regimen. I, personally, did not like the AHA+ when I used it. It broke me out pretty horribly, and that was after 4 years of being on the regimen. But to each his own! Good luck

Very helpful post I have a question....
After a few days on the Regimen, my whiteheads came to the surface. I was wondering if I can remove them without irritating my skin. Is there a safe way to do this? Or will they go away on their own?
Have you had any experience with this?
Thank you!
I loved reading this post. I especially love the fact that I don't have to worry about eating habits because I loooooove food! I'm taking into account everything that you've said about water, and I plan on using bottled water. I was wondering if microwaving the water for about 30 seconds before using it to wash my face would be a good idea? Or should I boil it ? Also, what do you think about panoxyl bp?
Wow, thanks so much for all of this information! Unfortunately, I won't be able to start the regimen for another 7-8 months because I'm going to Europe to teach English and I don't want to have to pay ridiculous shipping fees. Even though I'm really excited to be going to Europe for 7 months, I'm really looking forward to coming home and ordering the regimen the first week I'm back in the country!
Hi, Im brand new to Dans regimen Just started Tuesday. I have a question that I didnt see answered on your post. Believe me I read the entire thing and it is very helpful and you did a great job of writing it.
So basically. I wear makeup about every other day, I switched to Almay per Dans recommendation yesterday.I like to wash it off mid afternoon around 4 or 5. But then I would be washing off the BP treatment. Do you have any wisdom? Sould I just leave it on, or wash it off and reapply the BP in a smaller amount . Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have quit BP for like 3 months now, and my skin is just horrible, well mainly I quit it due to learning how harmful and creates free radical to your skin as well the categorizing history that it undergone to FDA. I can say that only in BP do I get to get my skin clear, from ridiculous severe acne my skin transformed to maybe not really clear yet drastically decent one.
I am torn between switching back or not. =/ am 23 btw. I started using BP when I was 18 as well. Its an on and off thing too, but I usually see result in like a month and somehow my skin is not that allergic to it.
I have been using the regimen for 3 weeks exactly. I stated with a pea sized once a day for the first 2 weeks or so. I then started to do once a day at night but added spot treated in the mornings. My face is pretty dry but now to the point where it has become a problem. If I deadly look and study myself in the mirror I can see it cracking.. I use the jojoba oil as well. My main concern is should i start using the BP more?? I now am using somewhere to 2 pea sized amount and doing it fully twice a day. I am getting new pimples there are days I feel as of my skin looks better but there are days when it gets worse, im pretty much frustrated . Any feedback will be appreciated. I don't have severe acne I have a lot fired spots but I probably have maybe 4big active pimples on each cheek. My fitness and chin are mainly clear. My concern is my cheeks which I can't figure out why it's breaking out. I sleep on my back so that can't be the reason. Before in the regimen I had tiny tiny bumps all around my face after a fees days they disappeared And I was happy thinking it worked by week two I stated to get big pimples which I have never had.. And now I am clear of tiny zits bumps but u have big filled pimples on both cheeks. Im scared to go higher on the BP. Any advice please please
(((( today was 3 weeks im a mild moderate case acne.. Thanks
Hi there!
Thanks for the all the great information.
I have been on the regiment for 10 months and I had to stop using it. My acne disappeared after about 3 - 4 months, and I could also see some results just after a week. The red marks has never seemed to disappear. I had a really really heavy and long time break out on my face for at least 6 months. So I was so happy and relieved when the breakouts stopped after 3 - 4 months. Flakiness wasn't a problem after the same amount of time.
My biggest problem on the regiment has been two things.
1: I live in Norway, and the winter here is really cold. So using the regiment made my face more than red. I got super red. The skin around my eyes where really pale. And the marks from my acne where almost blue. I looked really really bad. And my face got really dry as well. And as I have read, there is a lot of water in the moisturizer so when it was - 20 C, it felt like my face was about to crack up. What could I have done in a situation like that?
2: As it is summer now, my face hasn't stopped being red. People comment my red face, and it almost feels like my skin can't handle the products. I started to use the BP only at night, but still using the rest both day and night, because of the redness.
A couple of weeks ago i stopped using the regiment because of the redness and went over to use some organic farmer oils and cremes. People started to comment that my skin looked so much more fresh and healthy, so I didn't want to go back to the regiment. Then I could suddenly see black spots develop on my forehead. I got very oily in the T zone, and got spots on those areas as well on my neck and under my chin. I am freaking out as this is happening right now.
Is the reason for that because my skin needs to get used to the change? Or is it "the old" acne coming back? Is it really necessary to use the regiment for such a long time? Acne is usually a periodic thing.. it hasn't come to stay? I feel that the regiment does a great job, at the same time as I feel that is really harsh to the skin..! When to stop using it? And what to do when the skin never stops to get red? I even met a girl that laughed at my red face. That is not a good memory or feeling to have.
So a couple of days ago, I went back on using the regiment. And from having some spots here and there I now have spots everywhere, and are back to being a lobster. Horrible combination. It wasn't so bad the first time.. What happened? And what should I do now?!
I don't want to go outside or meet people or anything..! I am really frustrated and sad..!
(PS: I read you Q&A, and you mentioned wrinkles etc. and you said that it wouldn't have an effect. Well I have to say that my face have "changed" and looks a bit older now than before I started the regiment. More than that I am 10 months older. Its like my skin on my face is zagging a bit more, and wrinkles on my forehead and around my mouth is a lot more visible. I have a feeling that the regiment has been a part of that. I don't know if it is true.. but I can see it on pictures from before I started.. and it is only 10 months ago. In that case it would suddenly age more that usual. And thats a bit weird.)
