I am a huge supporter of benzoyl peroxide and have been using Dans formula for 3 years now. I would like to discuss the new discovery of benzene found in benzoyl peroxide. Has Dans formula been tested for this?
Ive been schlobbing this stuff on my face for 10 years and am hugely concerned as well.
I think the risk is hot temperatures mainly - I keep my bottle in the bathroom where it would experience some warming however my climate overall is very cool most of the year.
Now I have to consider stopping use of this product.
Im worried about this too. It seems like its not just the heat but heat makes it worse. Its also unclear to me if its just any benzoyl that breaks down into benzene or just certain formulas. Im worried that its any benzoyl. Hoping acne.org puts out a statement soon.
@eric7900 same here i have been using this product over 10 years and im concerned as well. The study was done with benzoyl peroxide in very hot conditions like between 98 degrees farenheit and 150 or so degrees i believe and this is the reason why it converted to benzene so quickly and in great amounts. However it still can convert to benzene even in room temperature it just takes a longer time. But i have discontinued use of benzoyl peroxide for now, the FDA issued a statement i think in March reiterating it is still safe to use and stating something to the effect of the lab that did the study did it under unrealistic conditions without guidelines etc but im still skeptical. I messaged @dan directly no response yet. For the time being im using tea tree oil on my back acne and its been going fairly well so far
@dan Could you please post your answer here so we could all be aware of the latest updates? Thank you.
