Hello. I thought to write on this forum about my skin before spedning the money to go to a dermatologist. I have some hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and and deep pimple that scarred nearly black. Other than that i was fine with how my skin looked. The black scar in the middle of my cheek was so jarring that i wanted a quick fix. I took the acne.org quiz and purchased the glycolic acid lotion. i also bought a glyoclic acid face wach by Body Merry and the Mario Badescu glycolic acid (2%) toner. I also bought the clean and clear deep cleaning astringent and moisterizer. with 2% and .5% salycilic respectively. i used all of these on my face every morning and night. I mixed the moiterizer and the aha lotion together and added a few drops of lemon essential oil(for the scars).

After about a week my face began to be super dry after I washed it and then I got these dark patches of hard leathery, shiny skin on my cheeks. I thought this maybe the glyocolic acid peeling my skin but its been over two weeks and no skin has peeled. I realize that my skin regimen has probably been to harsh so here i am looking for insight on what to change and whether this hard dark patch of skin will peel or how I should go about getting my skin to be balanced again. Btw before using these products I had very normal not too oily not too dry skin.

I'd recommend stopping the face wash and toner and just stick with the AHA+. Using 3 medicated products at once is what is causing the excessive dryness and irritation, and the leathery skin. Instead, choose a gentle, non-medicated face wash, like Purpose, supposed to be gentle as water. Moisturize as often as needed until your skin is back in balance and the leathery skin heals. After that, go slow with the AHA+...it's potent stuff. Mix a little moisturizer to help it feel more comfortable. Dan's AHA+ when used correctly is actually very hydrating and shouldn't cause leathery skin. It may take several months for the marks to clear up, this just speeds up the process a bit. But the results will be worth it. My son had a lot of red marks and now over a year later after his acne cleared he has hardly any.

Slow and steady wins the race! :)
